We urgently need to boost our defence. At least have a few capable aircraft and ships.
IMHO we should be having a root and branch look at our defense and security forces and working to rebuild those so that they are fit for purpose alongside gradually upping our defense and security spending so that it reaches at the very least close to 2% of GDP. In the early 80's we were spending around 1.5% of gdp on defense.
The highest we spent was 1.6 in the 80s ,
The current defense spending of gdp across the eu and Nato is currently around 1.7% ours is currently at .26% of gdp
Submarines yes... everything else very much uses active sonar for ASW
that wasn't the point
Russia ‘using spy ships to plot North Sea sabotage’ • FRANCE 24 English - YouTube
report mentions about 50.... Russian spy trawlers aren't a new thing, but multiple survey ships are over the last few years.... a number have been around the Irish coast over the past 2 years.
Yes our peak was the early 80's we spent 1.7% in 1980 and 1.6% in 1982 it has dropped since then and today it is barely above a quarter percent and our defense and security capabilities are close to non existent.
not sure of the reporting mechanisms in Ireland, but in the UK and continental EU there has been major warnings about attack on infrastructure from APT28 and Killnet, with some major DDOS attacks over the last 24 hrs on national infrastructure
We just had such a review in the past couple of years, and there have been some positive responses to it. Putin's war means that the review needs an urgent and radical revision.
Has there been any results yet? I just kind of hope it is not another good report by experts that ends up as food for book lice in the govt. archives (if they still store such stuff on paper somewhere) because there is no will there to take action.
Only thing I've heard about in public was another talking shop will start about Irish neutrality & matters of defence policy etc. where a group of average citizens will convene to discuss (in this case) stuff they probably know almost nothing about (I would include myself in that if my number came up!).
Ah jaysus, if you're worried to much about the ruZZkies sub, share the news with local knackers. Nex time sub will surface, it will be nicked and used for a joyride, and later found burned out somewhere around Sally Gap.
...
Very weird
Reports that it was a meteor.
Another angle
Seems to be the NASA satellite. Christ what was the odds on that one would wonder.
Balls on the lot of them. I could never imagine myself walking confidently out into fire like that, nevermind being the last fighting over a road that is guaranteed lost anyway. Brave lads like them at that late stage of a loss should be kept to hold the new line.
Wouldn't be much left of a satellite once it gets through the atmosphere.
Anyway, NASA said "the" satellite hasn't crashed yet.
From the video it looks like a meteor. A de-orbiting satellite doesn't come in fast like that, doesn't have enough energy to light up the whole sky.
Since you like a bit of research, it is World Autism Month. Educate yourself a little, might clear up a dose of the ignorance.
Kind Regards, Dad of Autistic child.
That reminds me - in science fiction such as Babylon 5, ships hurl asteroids at planets in mass bombardments.
Thankfully Russia space tech not that advanced!
And again
Apparently Russia has started a new recruitment drive looking for 'real men'. Getting desperate they are.......
These adverts for each season of Battlefield 2042 get worse and worse.
There was another Russian recruitment ad where a car is driving past a very large grave yard full of fresh floral wreaths, and just past it, there a very large military recruitment advertisement on billboard " Join the Army for the time of your life"
The mystery deepens what flew over Kiev the other night..
NASA say's no it's not our satellite 👽
How are the Citizens Assembly subjects decided on for discussion and ultimately recommendations being made? .
(1) What about it making recommendations on Irelands energy security situation - it is very vague to it being non existing. There is a debate going on on it mainly at the Dail and in the media
(2) Or making recommendations on whether to join NATO
(3) make recommendations on the governments policy or lack of it on the health - medical- of the nation and how it might be better managed and should it be pro active rather being reactive towards it eg keep people out of hospital by promoting healthy activity, healthy living, discouraging bad habits , provide more mental services, etc.
No doubt will be portrayed by the 3 muppeteers, Soloyuv, Skabeyeva, and the queen bee herself, Simonyan as one of Russia's secret super weapon's
not worried at all... was basically saying if the Russian subs were close by, the last thing they would use is active sonar (re: sonar being the cause of beached whales and it mentioned it being the Russians)... its gone over a lot of peoples heads though for some reason... probably a telling sign of the intelligence demographic in the thread
