Dublin City Council actively tows away I've seen it in Dublin 1. On NCR cars parked less than 5m of the junction or loading bays are on their radar
Cops are busy around here with cars not having windscreen decorations up to date.
Interesting, I haven't seen Fingal towing cars away, must vary by area
As far as I know, DCC are the only council to clamp, to make any effort at ticketing people who are parked illegally (not just paid parking enforcement) and the only council to use towing to enforce clearways and other obstructions. The other Dublin LAs (and probably most other urban LAs) issue parking fines for paid parking enforcement and nothing else.
From reading a lot of the extra weight in the ID3 is to protect the body in a crash and the cars structure and to also keep production costs down, it uses a lot of steel to save on costs instead of more lightweight material like carbon etc, suspension again to deal with weight and you've the charging hardware too, I'd say manufacturers are not being as aggressive as they can in weight savings as it doesn't affect ev energy consumption that much with the regenerative braking and once vehicle is cruising. It should be dealt with, a small hatchback same weight as a transit van is crazy
28k for an electric up is madness, they should be no more than 18k, you can get a new petrol Kia Picanto for 16k
The people paying those prices for a 200km car, mad
bmw i7
CATL targeting 500Wh/kg in mass produced but no doubt very expensive cells. I've heard that 450Wh/kg is the point where electric aviation starts to make sense.
Do we have a thread for SSE chargers? I found a planning application for a 2X5 HPC near Texaco Ballycoolin
FW23A/0076
Maxol nearby also has a similar project approved
I'm not sure there was a thread for it, but there was an article a while back talking about SSE getting into EV charging
Their plan seems to be to target some business parks and industrial estates while also providing bigger bays for buses and trucks
I presume that's the logic behind the 2 plus sized bays in the planning
They should be fine for power there since the 220kV power supply, and ESBN supply station are literally next door
I do wonder if it'll be a winner though, it's probably close enough to Blanch and the M3 that it'll get people dodging the queues, but it's still too far off the beaten track to be the location of choice. Not to mention the fact that an industrial estate isn't the ideal place to be parked after dark
They might be going for workplace charging but most businesses nearby probably have on-site AC chargers, and presumably anyone buying an electric truck is also budgeting for a DC charger in your depot as well
In any case, I hope it works out for them and it's great to see more companies getting involved and providing charging hubs that are actually useful (looking at you Ecars)
500Wh/5c/5000cycles is what I'd like to see
100kWh/200kg battery, that will charge in 12 mins and do 2,500,000 km before degrading and with a range of 500km at motorway speed

Tow away was very common in Dublin 20 years ago. Now the method is only used if you are blocking clearway or on yellow lines, then they tow you around the corner and clamp you in a parking spot. This way they don't need a pound and some drivers give up on their banger if towed away.
There is probably still a gardai pound for siezed vehicles.
In terms of damage they typically photograph all sides of car before touching it in case of claims for old scratches and dents. The issue on public chargers may be unlocking cable from.charger or owners cable from car as on some cars they won't disconnect unless the car decides so not easy to unplug cable to move car.
In the Netherlands there is photos of them lifting cars out of charging bays on the request of EV drivers. I would like that option here. It may not have overall general improvement but if stuck you have some hope. I have been personally clamped twice and towed away once and a few parking tickets too. Friends travel with battery grinders!
For grand majority of cars 5000 500km cycles are a total overkill. Maybe 1000 such cycles are enough unless we plan to keep an average car on road for 100 years. On average cars seem to cover less than 20k a year so it would typically take 125 years to cover 2 500 000 km.
depressing .."Kevin O'Leary blows up the electric car 'fantasy'"
Saw the Fox news logo and didn't even bother to watch. Anything that comes out of those twits mouths is a waste of oxygen
With a bit of luck Fox won't be able to afford these lunatics soon with all their lawsuits for defamation
@the perfect ten Regarding your question about the bp charger in Belfast one way would be to use the website to start charging. Is the same for a foreign visitor trying to use easygo
Edit direct link doesn't work so you need to find it

Live now on YouTube and presumably recording available after.
From meeting
Wrote to Minister for Transport regarding the phasing out of Chamedo and what it all means for concerned drivers of new models that still use it e.g. Leaf
I refer to your recent correspondence, with apologies for delay in response.
ESB eCars have indicated that they will no longer be installing chargers with Chademo capability in the near future. This is due to an increase in CCS enabled EVs on Irish roads as manufacturers move away from the Chademo technology.
However there are currently approximately 1,700 charge points in Ireland with approximately two thirds of fast chargers able to facilitate Chademo enabled EVs. Additionally, ESB eCars received €10million from the Climate Action Fund which will undertake a comprehensive programme to expand and enhance the public charging network. All of the fast and high powered chargers under this project will have Chademo connections. It should also be noted that all cars will also have a Type 2 charging cable which will be available to charge at all AC public chargers.
I hope this is of assistance.
Partners. It's worrying most of their income is not from members but commercial bodies.
I failed to renew this year not to save 20 quid but they didn't convince me. I'll be watching the video to see if I'm wrong but, in the last year, I didn't see one single action worth mentioning. Again I hope I'm wrong and they were consulted when the EV infrastructe strategy was developed by DCCs or when apartment grant scheme was introduced just to give two examples where their inputs and colective wisdom would have been important.
Not sure they can call themselves an EV owners association anymore
IEVIRA (Irish EV Industry Representative Association) might be a better title
And do I get bonus points for putting IRA into the title? 😂
Well if people don't join and actively take part.. can't change things from the sidelines.
It’s private property, so nothing can be done
"Owners" is being dropped from the name anyways
Just saw this video, not sure what to comment, without figures for petrol/diesel fires to compare with.
Normally I find this channel quite informative..

Something like this?
Funnily leaving Blanch this AM and there was a 530e being clamped for not charging on the chargers by the M&S entrance. There was also some pr1ck in a new RR sport diesel that was parked in the charging bays but was still in the car so hopefully he may have been clamped too, thankfully I don’t need to charge publicly except in very long trips, but feel sorry for anyone that needs a charge with this BS behaviour
I assume they didn't include diesel fires because 90% of them were Opel Zafiras 😂
