What, look at them? Even if we had the guns to take them out we wouldn't be starting war with Russia over the Submarines.
Ah yes, The Irish approach to all things international
They're French, what do you expect? If this war is showing us one thing, it's the folly of mindlessly rowing in behind the French and Germans
An important lesson from history, particularly in relation to the actions of the Nazis, is that it is disturbingly easy to take otherwise rational and well-meaning individuals and convince them that another group of people are barely even human. To convince them that acts of murder against them, even to the children, are not crimes.
These Russians have been fed a romantic narritive of the victorious Soviet trooper who crushed Berlin and saved the world from their evil. But they leave out the bit where the ultranationalism that had turned the Germans into war criminals, could really happen anywhere. This isn't unique to Russia, I think I lot of people dismiss the idea of the likes of Nazism taking hold in their own country, despite the examples of it nearly happening.
Russia is a country where this process has actually happened. They voted in their own dicator, just like Germany did. They have started a war that has isolated them from the world and have declared at least one group of people to be unworthy of life....just like Germany did. They also even took a previously benign symbol and made it a logo of their hatred (in this case the letter "Z")
It is as you say "simply wrong". Be it due to Putin's ego, national hubris or a realisation that this is their last real chance of a land-grab before their demographic profile implodes...what is clear is that the Russian Federation has engaged in a War of Annihilation with its neighbour and must not be treated as a rational actor ever again. They must be defeated and at very least contained within their own (actual) borders.
Civilised people do not cook up excuses to murder children.
You don't use guns to shoot submarines,
The biggest issue is we don't have any ability to detect and track any foreign military vessels submarines or surface vessels,
Basics first
Large whale washed up in Mayo last few days. But the Russians care not a whit for sea life - the Russian whaling industry I believe wiped out massive numbers of whales in USSR times - genocide of a species.
I didn't literally mean buying enough pistols to shoot at the submarines...
"we're not ever going to go to war with them, so why bother being interested about what they're doing in our waters"
As I said we need the basics first, the ability to track and detect all aircraft and Marine vessels including foreign submarines ,
First and foremost before we invest in a new navy,Army and airforce,
Crikey it’s a bit of a stretch to be blaming Russia for the death of large numbers of marine mammals off the Irish coast. There has been a significant spike in surveys by prospective offshore wind projects which could just as easily be to blame https://www.gov.ie/en/collection/e762fd-marine-notices/
That would be the second IRIS-T delivered.
Interesting from the article about talks with Sweden for mobile launchers that can be linked to the system and fire shorter range, but cheaper and more abundant missiles.
The sad thing about Russia murdering those people is Russia murdering those people. 'Ironic' would be a better word for what you're driving at, I think.
Shooting 5 year old girls in the head is one thing, surely Russians wouldn't be doing this... Never.

Personally I think Ukraine won't do a large scale counter near Bakhmut. It will either be in the south or North east or both IMO.
But who knows if they're successful Russia might have to stop throwing reinforcements at Bakhmut. Personally I still think Bakhmut falls eventually but hopefully I'm wrong. Momentum can change so fast in war.
As well as submarines, where submarines go ,we get sea mammal deaths
also, if the Russian's were close to Irish shores, the last thing they would be using is active sonar, as it's like shining a torch and gives away your position immediately.
Passive sonar is used in most cases for navigation, with active sonar being used by the hunters (US/UK)
It's not as if we could actually do anything about it
Sure we be grand,
Everyone loves the Irish, no one would ever want to bother us and sure every country would protect us!!!
If your 'quite some time' denotes months, then no. This cropped up just over a month ago with a report from Poland that a Patriot battery was already in Ukraine and then Ukrainian officials and others coming out and denyying it, so probably a week or two at most.
Speaking of sabotage...
From the time the Russian conscript dons the Russian uniform, his whole focus even in peace time is the day he will take it off for good. Caring for military equipment in his care, is a long way down the list of his priorities and deliberate or "accicental" damage is a good choice for him if he can get away with it.
I wish people would stop quoting this soldier when there's another quoted as saying they killed 24 children on direct orders from Prigozhin.
Wance the Russians had a real pint of porter in one of our fine public houses they’d settle in just fine.
As long as said pint of porter is laced with arsenic we're all good.
Russian subs go near NATO coast constantly and I doubt they think twice about it.
Modern submarines tend to avoid active sonar for most purposes, particularly hunting, for the same "flashlight effect" reason. Using passive sonar and a database of noise signatures and analysis of the target's sound output, a modern sub can arrive at a firing solution i.e. target's bearing, range, course and speed, without ever giving away its own position. It does take time, though, and in a hurry or emergency there's always active sonar to fall back on, but as far as I know it's not the first choice because it's such a double-edged sword.
Intense
It's a buffet, just believe what you want. Also even if they are real, they could also be wrong!
and lets not forget we are already losing billions as a direct result of the Russian dictatorships invasion of Ukraine in terms of taking in the 80,000 odd Ukrainian refugees we have and that also is costing our tourism industry due to lost bed capacity. So even though there are no direct Russian bombs landing in Ireland Russia's authoritarian regime is as we speak costing us and hurting us.
