Sharks finishing 8th and winning the URC could mean that 7th place misses out on Europe too. I don't think Munster will take anything for granted and will go full force next week. They can rest players when the European semi final is on (and they aren't playing).
Nice moment tonight was to stay behind as many did to thank all our players who were leaving. And all the other players hung around to say thanks to the fans. Great evening
The host broadcaster allways has a bit of leeway to put the best story in front of camera. Bundee tonight, whoever's in the news, exciting backs on debut, players who give good quotes on mic, etc.
From what I hear Bundee rewarded them with an f-bomb so they won't be able to reuse some of it. 🤣
As for all the discussion of permutations, the team can forget about them. Just go out to win next week and we'll get whatever reward we deserve at full-time.
Because that's how it's pronounced, has been clarified a few times already
One advantage for Connacht next week, potentially, is that they will know the deal before playing Glasgow because that game is on after every other. So the permutations will have played out, and they will know what’s needed.
I wouldn’t agree with that. No need to spend too much time on it but they should probably go through a few scenarios. For example if Connacht have three tries and are a few points ahead or behind, a penalty should probably be stuck in the corner to maximise chance of securing two points. Context dependent of course.
Agreed but the coaches can have that all ready and reinforced from the sidelines. We need to prepare our best 23 well before any of that comes into play. Let's aim to win and build confidence and momentum regardless of where that takes us.
Pleased to get the job done tonight. Cardiff didn't offer a whole pile but it was a high pressure game and we were clinical once we got the first try and we snuffed out their comeback without too much drama.
Like someone else posted the restarts were a lot more satisfactory in first half in particular. No need to reinvent the wheel. Just gather and work the right position and get territory.
We'll see what happens against Glasgow I wouldn't be too confident away from home but at least we have Top 8 secure and we'll know what's needed by the time we play.
Connacht are good enough for heineken cup, we qualified for it it. Lets be positive and look forward to a good result against the warriors.
If Munster beat the Sharks we re guaranteed 7th at least
Scott Fardy appointed as new defence coach.
Jesus H Christ.
i knew scott and his family loved ireland, but thats a left field (but great!) appointment
Wow, that's the second most surprising coaching announcement I've heard this week!
Some parallels to the year we won, we played Glasgow in the final game of the season, we beat them then went on to play them again in the semi-final. I remember reading Glasgow were sure they would'nt lose to us a 2nd time, for this reason I'd be cautious about suggesting they will play the A team against us this weekend
Bit slow to start the week. Saw “Scott Fardy set to join Connacht” and immediate thoughts were is that guy still playing, he’s a fair operator even if he is getting on etc.
Always hard to tell with first time professional coaches but seems like a good appointment.
If Glasgow play a strong side I'd imagine it'll just be for momentum. They'll much prefer playing us to the other alternatives particularly at home.
I'd expect they'll have a mix and match team. They seem to be finding form at a perfect time. With their style of play and confidence they're going to be a hard team to contain regardless of what team they pick.
I'm very happy with a lot of what I saw against Edinburgh and Cardiff but in these away matches we frequently don't show up or else we bury our chances with 10-15 minutes of madness where we start digging a hole for ourselves and then compound the problem with more stupid penalties or system meltdowns.
Yeah top player doesn’t equal top coach, Fardy does seem the right type though and I’d say he’s a very shrewd guy who isn’t doing something that he’s not sure he can succeed at.
Everything we heard about Fardy from other players and coaches at Leinster would point to him having the ideal attitude and personality for coaching. There's obviously an element of risk handing anyone their first job, but I'm feeling optimistic nonetheless. Senekal has laid some very solid foundations for him, he would have had his work coming in two years ago when our defensive maul was an absolute shambles.
its not his first coaching job?

A VERY good piece of news lies in these lines
Was expected early this month, I was afraid next week was perfect for a comeback preparation but it seems not
No NEC Green Rockets in Japan and a Schute shield tea in Australia. I'm excited about this announcement.
Yeah read that after, first major job I should say.
That's a very, very good bit of business for Connacht. There is a lot of positive commentary in the public domain about Fardy but have heard first hand just how influential he was within the Leinster setup. Light on experience as a coach so he'll be learning on the job but I expect him to have a very good impact next year.
Seems to be a very talented if light on experience coaching group. I would imagine both Muldoon and Fardy will have an influence on culture as well as their coaching attributes.
An attack / skills coach, hooker and an experienced scrum half and were set for next season. Unfortunately can’t see a 10 coming in.
Muldoon has more than one would realise. This is the end of his fifth season at Bristol and he’s been in charge of Defence for the first couple of seasons and Forwards the last few.
Not really sure an extra 10 is required. Would be great to see Hawkshaw step into this role over time.
Didn’t realize it was 5, those Covid years throw everything out of perspective.
Butler out and Porch back available the only injury updates.
Will likely see Boyle in for Butler and Porch in for Kilgallen (would be harsh on Kilgallen).
Personally would have Aungier, Hawkshaw and Kilgallen on the bench in place of McCoy, Daly and Jennings
