Unfortunately not. If you did park behind then you are then blocking a lane of the car park.
I didn't think it could get worse but hey ho.
How long are the cables? Could you pull up behind the Polo, block them in and charge away? I'd be tempted just to teach them a lesson.
The campaign continues. I don't think I've ever seen a parking attendant at Rathfarnham shopping centre but feck me one is needed.
as good an attempt as any for comparisons

The batteries don't account for all of the c.500kg weight difference, they're 'only' 200 - 300kg.
https://bauaelectric.com/vw/inside-volkswagen-meb-id3-battery-pack-html/
A single ID3 motor weighing in at 90kg, https://insideevs.com/news/382377/vw-id3-electric-motor-compact/ would be less than a (Golf) petrol engine which I think tips the scales around 150kg? Dual motors would be slightly heavier.
The petrol will need an extra 10-60kg added to its weight to account for fuel.
Plus EVs save on the weight of gearbox/transmission.
Where does the extra c.200kg of bloat come from I wonder?
I always felt cars should be taxed by weight, eg road tax but the change to motor tax makes that a more difficult conversation
Was checking weights recently on 2 similar cars and it's shocking how heavy modern evs are, ID3 EV 1812kg vs Corolla Hybrid 1310kg
A 500kg weight difference pounding the road ain't ideal, the ID3 which is a small hatchback weights the same as a transit van or large SUV and batteries ain't improving much, so this isn't gonna change anytime soon.
I could see someone being tempted to carry a wheel clamp around and just pop it on a car blocking a charger and drive off with the key
Since the driver is so attached to the parking space I'm sure they won't mind being stuck there 😁
I, of course, am not advocating such vigilante like behaviour, but could understand someone feeling like they would
Incidentally you can pick one up for something like €30 in Amazon 😉
If you are not plugged in you are not charging and you are blocking someone else from charging.
You wouldn't park your car in front of a petrol pump and go off and do your shopping.
So to sum up....just because you drive an EV doesn't mean you can just abandon your car in front of a charger.
Short answer, no
There's been a few attempts but they've gotten out of date pretty quickly
Closest you might find is the EV database which compares range, efficiency and charging
It's no good for price and spec levels though. It has guide prices for Europe but they won't match Ireland
I'd suggest using it to create a shortlist of cars that will have the range you need and then look up prices in Ireland
Hence is there anywhere with a maintained list?
Considering how dynamic the pricing is lately such list would be pretty dated in days.
Is there anywhere on here or elsewhere with a price list of EVs available in Ireland?
With the various options, battery sizes etc? Thanks
I actually checked and last day of submissions was two days ago 😬
You can send in letters of support and recommendations of conditions such as all chargers should be 50kW+
Supermacs were even caught doing this with fake letters of support from fake people. ! "Allegedly"
Depends on whether they fully populate every charging space, remember those "coming soon" pillars at Castlebellingham?
Also depends on what charging power they install, current Applegreen are putting 180kW units which can split to 90kW if two cars plug in. That's fine for now but will be pretty dated soon
If they fill the station with 7kW units then it'll be about as much use as a chocolate hammer
However if they fill it with 350kW units then it'll be the biggest and most powerful hub in Ireland by some distance. Don't think even any Tesla sites can beat that yet
"The Applegreen proposal is to comprise 36 EV charging station"
Would that make it the largest charging station in Ireland then?
Anyone can submit an observation on my planning request, it doesn’t have to be the typical objection.
This kind of rubbish goes on all the time, Tesco object to Dunnes, Dunnes object to Aldi, etc. It’s just weaponising the planning system for their own commercial benefit.
RTE news : Circle K opposes Applegreen plan for site off M3
http://www.rte.ie/news/business/2023/0413/1376815-circle-k-opposes-applegreen-plan-for-site-off-m3
Not the best optics IMO, one service station provider who has so far failed to roll out any dedicated EV charging (except for a partnership with Ionity) is opposing another service station with a planned EV charging hub
Now personally I don't give a sh!t about the petrol station, but the M3 badly needs more charging hubs and I think it's quite hypocritical for Circle K to oppose it given how far behind they are in terms of EV charging
Now I'd be quite happy for Meath CC to attach conditions regarding the EV charging hub, like minimum number of chargers at opening, minimum power per charger and credit card readers. But I think denying the planning permission would be I'll advised
Anyone know if the planning board will accept letters of support for an application?
here is the thread
Havne't seen this posted before so sorry of it has and I am cluttering the forum but this is a new take - the Citroen Oli
I think this very innovative thinking from Citroen but then thats nothing new to be fair. Thay have always been creative and deserve a lot more credit that they get. Only a concept at the moment but its going the opposite of what many manufacturers are doing. Limit top speed, drop weight, easily replaceable parts. Ditch the big fancy infotainment systems and use your phone etc etc. Seems like a return to 2CV thinking in a way.
I like the design but then I am a bit odd. I think its a great idea but will it ever progress?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAdlm8-h_GE
That quotes a bit scurrilous. Offset by the last paragraph:
None of these issues are insurmountable and certainly there is no cause for immediate alarm.
I can assure you that car park design and associated safety limit factors here and in the UK are no cause for concern in relation to EVs or ICE vehicles.
haven’t seen this raised before
“…And batteries – are heavy. They are around 10 times heavier than the same volume of fossil fuel and three times heavier than an aluminum engine. And this additional weight needs to be considered against structures, such as car parks.”
maybe if the planning went in 8 years ago...no update on this since the end of 2022
Hyundai IX 35
Whats the car in the right spot at? Can't really see.
I don’t know the green markings match the green dealz logo which may confuse people into thinking they are for dealz shoppers
So now that Joe Biden is visiting, should we look forward to Biden Plaza somewhere out near Ballina? Maybe it'll have a charging hub (probably 2x50kW chargers 🤭)
I was charging in Waterford a few years ago and a VW PHEV parked beside me and plugged in. I noticed that his car was not charging so told him as he walked away.
He thanked me, but said he only plugged in so he would get free parking and wouldn't be long. 🤔
Indeed. Apologies to @unkel. It was him I thought who had used it before but it was your good self!!
