Anyone not behind a paywall for the independent?? Could they post this? Or let us know was it worth it!

I know someone who went. With Champagne (36 a glass), the wine pairing and the food, they spent like €640 between two 🤣
He said it was absolutely phenomenal but not worth it as a rule. It's a week in Lanzarote he said haha. He thinks they could get the stars anyway. If money was not an option I'd love to try it, but that price is beyond even the biggest of special occasions for me. I'll go to Ichigo Ichie for a landmark birthday instead.
I went for lunch yesterday in Sonflour on Castle St, first time there. Very small number of tables so you pretty much have to book in advance. I had one of their pizzas & was very happy with it. The other two people with me had a pizza & a pasta dish. The only small comment was the pasta was a bit soggy from one of them.
Good value too, think it was just over €12 for the pizza & a coffee for me. Wish they used plates instead of those stupid slates though as they almost guarantee a mess!
I wasn't a fan of the pizza in Sonflour; it was more like a focaccia bread with soggy vegetables on top, with very little cheese.
It was OK for what it was, but I wouldn't call it pizza.
The salads looked good.

Kinsale's Saint Francis Provisions honoured with Michelin nod (irishexaminer.com)
New one - Japanese eatery by Chinese folks, should be good - anyone tried yet?
yep - OH mad to try it - not a lover of Japanese food myself though
Michelin awards for Ireland: two stars for Dede and one star for Terre – The Irish Times - 2 so far for Cork ! Dede & Terre
had a fab meal in Thali last night - everything was delicious - really great quality - tandoori jhinga - aka sizzling jumbo prawn dish was unreal as was the chicken tikka malai (i think its called).. staff were lovely too - lovely ambiance overall - great vibe - can't wait to go back
Friday while the road to Cork was jammed, went to Elm Tree. Top service and nice food. The fish and chips could have fed a whole hurling team.
Over the last year (don't point at me) went to
Farmgate Cafe in the English Market, only had dessert but was great. Really wanna go there again.
Thali is a fan favourite at home, never disappoints
do you know the details of that accident? I got nabbed in it too - went home via glanmire..
couldn't find anything about it online..
I assume no one was injured which is good
Went to the new Japanese place, Akira, on Carey's Lane.
They've done a really nice job on the upstairs space. The menu reads really well. However the food just wasn't that great and the service was very slow.
It's probably on a par with Sakura, qualitywize.
Edit - wrong thread
Another absolutely cracking meal in Paradiso last night.
It's so, so good.
why so good?
Fair question.
Just a really wonderful adventure of flavours and textures. There's so much going on in each plate.
I really think the fact that it's vegetarian is pretty much irrelevant in the conversation about Paradiso. It's really exciting food, and, in my opinion, fantastic value for money!
The wine pairing for €30 is a great value option for me, too.
And while not everything on every plate absolutely did it for me, there are so many elements that you really can't lose!
Does that answer the question? 😉
(hands up, I'm a fanboy)
sounds good - wer you full afterwards?
a mate of mine was there week before last - tasting menu - enjoyed it but wasn't full when leaving - I rem been the same the once I was there..
tis not for me - but horses for courses and all
but after parting with a lot of €€ i'd wanna at least be full/not hungry
It has been known for people going for a fancy meal, calling to Lennox's on the way home.
I was absolutely stuffed. It's a lot of food.
Some people eat more than others. It's a problem for restraunts all over.
Personally, I'm not a huge eater. I'm not sure that portion sizes should necessarily be designed around the largest appetites out there. For instance, why should I have to pay the same price as someone who wants to eat twice the amount of what I eat?
Anyway, here's the menu.
People who don't eat, so called, "fancy" food , love to parrot this kind of thing!
The biggest critics of fine dining are, in my experience, people who don't ever actually try it.
If you suspect it isn't for you, it probably isn't.
No I wouldn't eat a big meal, prefer flavours and textures. but occasionally one comes across an establishment where the portions are just too small.
I agree.
Even as a small eater, I am sometimes shocked at small portion sizes.
It's a tricky line to tread.
No one likes to feel shortchanged.
I was in Paradiso 2 months ago and my only gripe is its a 3 hour drive to get there and look forward to my next visit when in town. I am not a vegetarian but everything about the food and service was excellent.
doubt my mate has a particularly large appetite.. I certainly don't ...
you could say the opposite (re: twice the amount).. it should be average..
glad you enjoyed but I wouldn't be going back..
