Another price cut for Tesla in hong kong, do we think we will see something similar here?
Try not to overthink. Tesla manage the SEAI within a few days (regardless of SLA).
Yes - well flagged by Tesla that they will continue to cut prices across the world. That’s the business model for now. Reduce margin. Increase volumes.
I would say with confidence both Model 3 & Y will be 5-15% cheaper this time next year but timing of cuts is hard to predict. Also have to factor the grant phasing out will offset some of the reduction.
Has more to do with service of the Irish market UK getting 44,000 cars a year in the last few years Ireland getting just over 1000. The population of UK isn't 44 times that of Ireland proportionally Irish market not serviced as well by Tesla. Delivery time in UK typically a couple of weeks much longer in Ireland (was 7 months in my case), maybe Tesla starting to put a small bit more focus on the Irish market now hence delivery time improving. Number of factors there production ramp up less demand in UK and changes to the grant in June?
shhhhhhhh say nothing, there so disorganised it could actually go though. Sign the SEAI Papers anyway...
On the horns of a dilemma here. I ordered a M3 back in Feb but I’m not sure if it’ll be delivered on time for the grant. Thinking of ordering a MY just to be sure as there seems to be loads of them available. I prefer the M3 and the extra bit of range. But I can absolutely live with a MY!
Still very expensive to buy a Tesla in HK, even with the price cut. For comparison, the cheapest Model Y RWD would cost the equivalent of 63,244.81 Euros in HK Vs 46,690 Euros in Ireland. Since the RHD Teslas are manufactured in Shanghai, if anything, you expect HK to sell then at a cheaper price than in Ireland.
Depends on your finances I guess.
I wouldn't mind paying 1500 more if it means I can still get the M3 past the grant. Yes, it's annoying AF. But I'm not interest in a MY and really want the M3. A 1500 reduction isn't enough of an incentive for me, if the full grant disappeared then I'd also think twice.
If you place an order now for a Model Y now, you will get a VIN straight away. You'll have a few weeks from here to decide. Tesla should give you a refund for whichever order you do not take. Make sure to use a referral if ordering :)
It's a tough call only you can decide. I was originally in the market for a second hand M3 (221/222) but the value for money of a new MY convinced me to switch. Others on here have mentioned there may be another ship coming in late May for deliveries in June before the grant changes, if you wanted to wait it out and you trust anything Tesla staff say about upcoming shipments (risky business! 😬).
Don't forget to use a referral link if you decide to put in another order so you get some free SuC KMs.
We were in the exact same dilemma. But we bit the bullet and got an MY from inventory. Figure the extra space is well worth the extra cost. Be dead handy on weekends away over the summer and our drive to France in June
Bit off topic for the thread :) but what is the unit charge TESLA charge in Ireland using the Superchargers...just someone asked me today i have no clue :)
It depends on the location and peak or off peak time. For example Sandyford is €0.63 per kWh from 4pm to 8pm and €0.56 per kWh other times.
For what it's worth. The latest from Tesla CS is that inventory cars will be delivered at the end of April. Orders from January on will probably be delivered at the end of May.
Note that there is certainty in the wording for inventory cars and a maybe/possibly/probably for the cars ordered earlier.
15 LR MYs above the grant now in inventory with another boat to come in May. Major June fire sale to come!
You still taking your RWD order or having second thoughts?
Assuming Tesla actually honour any fire sale. After the last one I'd have my doubts.
Remember there's no grant for business purchases so 15 isn't that many to shift
It amazes me that a tech company like Tesla can't build a system that can calculate properly. This is my account right now
Car price 47972 ( MY White RWD /Tow hitch) (inc SEAI)
Trade in 22895
Balance should be 25077
Balance is actually showing as 29826
I know it'll all be fixed by collection day but sweet jesus it can't be that hard!
Keeping all options open. Will delay existing order as much as possible.. Feel no pressure now due to volume in inventory with another boat to come. There will be no shortage of RWDs come June.
The only reason they didn’t honour the fire sale is because they couldn’t deliver before quarter end. Someone even posted one of the online chats saying same. The whole pricing error etc. was a clear lie. Discounts in every country in Europe…except Ireland (ha)
Price cuts on unsold inventory is a global Tesla strategy and will happen again this quarter. This time it seems they’ll actually have the cars in stock so no reason they won’t honour discount assuming you collect before 30 June.
@RobbieP The difference of 4k+ could be the Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT), which needs to be added to the final sale of the car.
But sure, if a sale is so certain, why would anyone pick up their car at the end of the month if they can save 10%+ in a month's time?
Just seems strange to me, then again, it's Tesla!
Agree it’s a major challenge to their business model. Said they’d stop doing it years ago but once inventory starts building up they’re forced into it again.
a) no guarantees you’ll get the car when if/when it goes on sale. They’ll sell within minutes.
b) you’ll be unlikely to get the spec you want. You’ll probably end up wasting some of the benefit paying for a tow hitch you don’t want or something.
c) size of sale can vary. People who successfully got discounted cars last month only got c.3k off. Fire sale was 5k, but who knows what they’ll do in the next sale
I’d personally happily take the black/black LR that everyone on here has ordered at full price (54k) today over sitting refreshing the page for weeks on end to maybe get a grey one with a tow hitch for 53k.
Once you buy something you just have to switch off and enjoy it. Pay what you think is a fair and reasonable price. After that who cares if there’s a 2-3k price drop.
+1
The car be worth near 10k less the moment you take delivery anyway.
The VRT is already listed...
Additional Charges
Vehicle Registration Tax
€3,638.00
Tire Fee
€13.78
If they could supply suitable stock for Ireland and operate some sort of half sensible trade in policy, they’d sell plenty. Try getting a grant qualifying LR Model Y off them.
If you’re even half considering a LR and can afford it, you’d be better off to but it now. If you go to change to a LR later, no doubt the LR prices will have gone up and your trade in offer on the RWD will be rubbish.
Pure speculation! The price of the LR could just as easily go down in future! It's the Tesla way.
Buy whichever one suits your needs taking cost into consideration and knowing the RWD and LR are excellent cars and both have pros and cons.
Business customers/Leasing companies will hoover these up. They’ll be lots of unused towbars being dragged around the country by sales reps.
