The problem is that he has spent his entire life surrounded by yes men telling him how smart he is and how brilliant everything he dribbles out of his mouth is, so he thinks that the reason no one else thought of his stupid ideas is that they aren't smart enough. Hence brilliant ideas like injecting bleach to kill Covid. I have no doubt that he really thought that no one else was smart enough to think of that.

Biden's own numbers are pretty underwhelming and yeah anyone half competent has a chance against him , but the issue is the GOP voters really like Trump. They have been given numerous examples over the last few election cycles how toxic MAGA is to the swing states , but so much of MAGA is about owing the libs and following a conman in Trump rather than focusing on winning elections. The Dem's want Trump to win the GOP nomination, not their fault the GOP base are so in love with a loser like Trump though.
If Trump is dim witted then it makes the democrats who have been trying and failing for 7 to impeach and convict him even more dim witted.
He won Florida by more than Newsom won California, that's an astonishing achievement tbf.
Have a look at how he flipped Miami Dade for example, you may not like him , but he clearly has something about him electorally.
Whether he survives a primary with Trump is another story unlikely.

Outside of Florida , DeSantis doesn't have a personal "base" beyond the standard issue GOP voter.
He might be a bit more palatable to Independents in Swing States , but if he beats Trump then he loses the MAGA voters who will either sit out the election or put Trump as a write-in. Either way , he loses.
The GOP's problem is that they are all terrified of the Trump base which is meaningful in the Primaries , but really not that important on the National stage.
None of them will really attack Trump during the Primaries for fear of alienating that 25/30% of the GOP vote that is hard-core MAGA whereas Trump will throw everything possible in their direction knowing that they really can't return fire.
If Trump is still in the race and I see no reason why he won't be then he wins the GOP nomination because the GOP are cowards, but after that there's really nothing that Trump can or will do to grow his support among Independents who are the key to victory in all the swing States.
Tried for 7 to impeach? WTF? 7 what? TFG polluted the WH for only 4 years and was impeached, but not convicted by the Senate, twice. So, the impeachments were successful.
Sad thing is, the US really needs a working impeachment process for senior government officials (here's looking at you, Clarence "Friend of a Nazi memorabilia collector" Thomas), and doesn't have one, and amending the Constitution is massively unlikely.
How do you figure that shows he is smarter than them? They successfully impeached him. Twice. He wasn't convicted either time, but the second impeachment more members of his own party voted to convict than any President or former President in history. And a large number of members of his own party were willing to admit that he was morally responsible for the 6 January insurrection, even though for purely partisan reasons they were unwilling to vote to convict. If today's GOP were in place when Nixon was President he would never have resigned. The only reason he did resign is because the Senate Republicans came to him and let him know that the House was going to impeach him, and that when it went to the Senate for trial they would vote to convict. So he resigned before he could be impeached. The only reason he wasn't convicted in either impeachment trial was the unwillingness of Republicans to vote to convict, regardless of the evidence. And even so on the second trial 7 of them did vote to convict.
As far as convictions go, the wheels of justice in the US turn slowly. Especially when the rich and/or powerful are involved. During his time as President he was basically immune to prosecution, so the investigations into his crimes had to wait until he left office. Mueller's report from his investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election made it very clear that the only reason that charges weren't filed against Trump at the time was because the DoJ has a policy against indicting a sitting President. However Trump has been indicted on 34 felony counts so far. I expect that total will continue going up.

Also Republican Senators really don’t want to see him run again. They don’t want to have to attach their careers to an impeachment 4 5 and 6 even though we already know before the offense has even occurred they would vote to acquit out of partisan reasons.
Couple that with reports that folks like Ted Cruz are trying to workshop how to sound less extreme far right. One of the easiest ways to do that is for Trump to be out and admit yeah I never cared for the guy he insulted my wife etc. 🤣
And those 34 Felony counts are for a case where he was already considered an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the previous court proceedings that got Cohen a few years in jail.
Whilst it is the "weakest" of the deluge of cases he has pending it doesn't fora second mean that it shouldn't be prosecuted.

Also since discovery was closed the judge refused Trumps offer so now there will be no DNA evidence at the trial.

And while Trump's first impeachment was pretty much down party lines (2 Democrats voted against 1 article of impeachment and 3 voted against the other in the House, while in the Senate 1 Republican voted to convict on 1 of the articles), the second one was much less so. 10 Republicans voted in favour of the article of impeachment in the House, while 7 Republicans voted to convict in the Senate. Not enough to actually convict him but enough for it to be very meaningful.
