Anyone know if there is some dodgy default setting in the GPS that directs cars over mountains intentionally 🙄 Was going from Limerick to Garrykennedy last week and it brought me 15km along a country lane instead of the direct route through Killaloe.
Friend was coming back from Enniskillen last night and same craic, she got routed along country lanes heading back to Limerick
I’m only on 38k km but it’s 3 years old this month
Ranger did mine this week while he was doing a brake service after 40k on 21 M3p
Crikey, I must be driving to the moon and back. You've driven as much in three years as I put on the car in one year. 😁
I had the same issue today going to West clare so just put in a way point I knew made more sense. Google maps does the same thing sometimes, it doesn't seem to take account of the state of the road.
Maps definitely a bit dodge, if I'm going somewhere I'm not sure of I'd have Google maps running on the phone.
Always wondered was this due to boreens with 80kmh limits as the nav assumes you can drive at that speed when in reality you only do 40 making it longer overall.
That's it, maps looks at speed limits so if a bog road says 80 it will assume this is possible and route there if determined "quicker"
Yesterday was the first day I got into the car and it was piping hot, surprised there's no cooled seat option tee that would be very handy.
Just turn on climate 2-3 mins before getting in. Same summer and winter 😁
This.
always give a quick check on the app 5 minutes before getting in…. Then heat/cool/vent as required.
Yeah I suppose it's just something else to check.
One extra advantage of the white seats I suppose. I have the black ones, but don't really have a problem with them. Last summer wasn't that hot, any sunny days I used to crack open the windows which helped. The odd time I put on the A/C.
Mine is a white car, which unfortunately does not help much because of the black roof. Missus has an Ioniq 5 all white and it definitely stays cooler.
On got days I always vent from the app anyway.
I do the same with the 530e but that involves walking out to the garden and doing it with the key fob.
just a quick anecdote - my sister was collecting their Y this week, changing out of a 3, and the two other folks beside her collecting their Y at the same time were also swapping from 3’s.
I can’t think of any other new model that has this ‘migration’, and is reflected in the mere 190 m3 sales here so far this year. It feels correct when you read the waiting room thread.
tying into that, she struggled to sell the 3. offered 26€k by Tesla for a 201 with 42,000km, but eventually sold it privately for €31k.
Feels like another price cut will be necessary for the 3 if they keep increasing production in Berlin and shanghai as expected. total sales for the 3 years 20/21/22 barely put the m3 in the top 30 Irish models by sales volume.
A brand new Y passed me earlier on the motorway, it's big unit, a bit ugly if I'm honest, did consider buying one but it would have been like marrying a women you don't love.
I don't need loads of space so the better looks, range and efficiency of the 3 suited me.
100%, hard to beat the 3 efficiency, range and looks versus bloaty Y
Haha, that's exactly how I feel about it. The extra space for back seat passengers and the hatch is the only reason I would have gone with the Y. Would have been more practical but then it would be costing me an extra 10% on fuel.
Probably a lot of M3 owners would have gone for a Y if it had been available in 2019/2020, it is a much more popular form in Ireland. M3 has been outselling all the German saloons last few years for example.
Made this swap myself a few weeks ago, loved my M3 and would have got another if the Y wasn't available at the same price, more (more your money). Also wouldn't have swapped if I could only get 31k. Sold mine, for 36.
The looks of the Y are growing on me, the side profile is better than the 3. Will see what the efficiency is like on the longer trips over Easter 🤞
The Gen 1 Leaf grew on me too 😉
Said no one ever 😂
Someone was asking about the wood effect on the doors. I don't like it and had a go and putting material gaff tape a few months back and redid it today. Not perfect but a very cheap go at improving the (subjective) interior looks. I'll tape over the dash wood effect once I source a gaff tape wide enough.
After
I may well have gone for the Y in March 2022 had it been available then at similar prices to my 3.
How do you find the ride and suspension on your Model Y? I like it on my Model 3. Firm but precise.
I think to be honest I prefer the wood..
Don't notice much difference, find it much quieter though.
In fairness, a Model 3 is a fugly car too compared to a BMW i4 or even VW ID3 etc
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that!
I suppose the height insulates you a bit more from the road..
Had a mad whistling noise coming from the front of my 3 yesterday. I was coming down M1 just over a hill and it started.
What would this be? Never had this before.
Did you have aircon on? Or battery heating?
Aircon was on, no battery heating. Started as I got to the crest of a hill. My guess is wind through/against something but not sure what.
