The Flannery news is obviously not a huge deal - its jake flannery after all - but its not a small one. Ulster were looking in serious trouble at 10 so they've just shared that problem around slightly.
Same, Coughlan looks a good prospect. Had one shakey appearance when getting ~25 mins earlier in the season, but you’d forgive that for a young player.
Another option to Cronin could be to recruit just as cover during the RWC until Murr and Casey are back. (I think Alby got extended similarly last time).
Sure we’ll probably know from the results next weekend, if not then the weekend after. Don’t think that’ll make any difference to recruitment, discussions can take place while waiting.
Who are the centres that will travel to the RWC, who will be their back ups that are left at home.
Any in Munster that will be held back by us signing a NIQ?

Munster don’t have any centres that will travel to the RWC bar a major injury crisis. So you could argue there is less need to sign one. As one will already be in place.
Im sure you perceive this as some kind of attack on Munster. It’s not, it just reflects previous policy.

Yeah, I think the bigger issue is that the departure of Goggin and the non-arrival of Flannery being a problem shows how wafer thin the squad is. Like, we should be able to shrug them off without a second thought.
Fixing this is a multi year task involving foreign signings, lads from other provinces and most importantly, an improved output from the academy, year after year.
But we have seen an improved output from the academy in recent years.
We’ve also have the lowest number of NIQ players of any Province so I think we have some scope there.

Yep, and that has to be maintained and ramped up even more. It's the only long term fix.
So Dan Goggin has finished his rugby in Ireland by earning himself a 9 week ban due to foul play in the AIL.
Apparently bans relating to AIL activity don't carry on outside of Ireland so his Australian adventure will not be negatively effected.
You seem to really struggle to produce centres though. Although Frisch is IQ, he’s not home produced. I must admit I’m still a bit puzzled by Goggin Leaving. For both parties, it would seem to have made sense for him to stay. Unless Munster have already lined someone up of course.
All provinces struggled in certain positions. Even Leinster, with their academy, seem to struggle at 9.
Munster are always going to have to supplement from outside. This seems like a decent candidate for that.

It would be an injustice of he escapes without a ban by emigrating, so I hope the Australian Union impose the punishment and prevent him playing there.

Sharks had the same travel issues in the lead up to the Munster game, having been in Wales the previous weekend, and they managed.
Harlequins went to Cape Town the same weekend and gave a much better account of themselves than anyone expected.
Sharks weren't really pumped by Toulouse, they conceded four tries in the last ten minute but they were right in it up to then.
The Stormers were absolutely shocking yesterday but I just think their fitness levels are atrocious in general.
Sharks had a try disallowed midway through the second half, would have been very interesting to see how things played out if it had have stood.

He's about 5th or 6th in the pecking order.
It was and has been a pretty shambolic signing.
Not even in hindsight, as a lot of people queried it rightly at the time, but it looks to have been a highly emotional style decision to bring back a much loved former player, when all logic would suggest that money could have been better spent elsewhere.

He’s scored 11 tries in 16 starts, and 3 sub appearances since his return, and by all accounts came back on a significantly reduce salary.
That’s hardly shambolic.
The numbers are 10 tries from 15 starts, (excluding the SA A game), but 9 of those tries came last season, and largely in blow out wins.
He simply hasn't featured this season - 5 appearances, 1 try in a blow out win against Ospreys.
My point was more that there are loads of gaps around the squad that need to be filled, and this seemed an odd place to spend, given they already had Earls, Conway, Nash & Shane Daly, plus the likes of Liam Coombes & Patrick Campbell.
Whatever about the original signing, it's the 2 year extension in Jan 2022 that really looks unusual and poorly considered.
