Sorry to drag up an old thread but Damien Tiernan of Deise Today on WLR FM's looking for information from ex-students/staff & others on Mr. Tom Meehan please?
Emails in confidence to Damien@WLRFM.com & thanks.
What are your talking about? Can you pm me?
I'd say he's talking about the sexual abuse.
He's dead now I think.
he was at a lad in my class, got in trouble but it was swept under the carpet.
Yeah he's dead alright
Is Francis Xavier Keegan still alive?
He appears to be, couldn't see anything online to the contrary. He must quite the age now, he was quite old when I was there and that was years ago 😂
Damien Tiernan broadcast a programme on Thomas Meehan and the abuse he allegedly committed in Waterpark college, awful to hear these stories. I can’t post links for some reason but if you go to WLR and podcasts then select deise today, you can listen to the programme. Maybe someone else can post the link.
you re a new member, hence unable to post....
It's mad that the reactions of some posters on here was to defend the man.
clearly a very unwell man needing serious professional help, and should have been no where near kids, but existed in a society terrified of standing up to institutions, thank god its virtually impossible for such outcomes nowadays....
You'd like to think that, but the Christian Brothers still put every obstacle in the way of victims trying to get justice.
...yea its disturbing how much control the church had on us, many injustices done....
Thankfully everyone is more vigilant and aware these days but I’m sure there are still some sick perverted pedos in society trying to devise ways of getting their ‘fix’ at the expense of the young and innocent
...ah you ll find most, if not all perpetrators are actual victims of abuse themselves, and in urgent need of professional help, which effectively doesnt exist..
Or they are just evil scumbags who know exactly what they are doing and dont give a damn about the effect and trauma their actions have on innocent kids. A lot of these paedos refuse any sort of treatment because deep down they are simply bad people.
Stop giving criminals a free pass with the tired old dodgy childhood trite. Lots of sex abusers werent abused in childhood and lots of people who were abused dont evolve into sex abusers. Your "most if not all" assertion is nonsense.
Looks like like Thrasher Tracy could be next in line for an exposé, if ever there was a filthy animal, he was one, wreaked havoc in the Junior school in his two years there, physical & sexual abuse of kids.
Only thing after years of evading the law it eventually caught up with him after he did the same in a school in Limerick.
I just listened to it. Why did he get so many chances to offend again? A lot of his bosses, who are still alive need to answer these questions.
There definitely needs to be accountability. The Department of Education for one thing were his employer.
Are you sure about that? That isnt my experience at all.
Irish society was well able to stand up to institutions. Look at the War of Independence and the Civil War. Clearly not at all passive. The notion that sexual abuse was imposed on society by institutions is just bogus. It was endemic across society and all societies, whether it is Papua or Chile. A very wretched vista. But a human one, not an Irish one.
Seems to be:-
Standing in a civil case is nothing to do with justice. They have gone out of their way, to the point of angering local communities to raise money to pay compensation voluntarily without any civil proceedings.
