Chinese electric car brand BYD to enter Irish market this year (breakingnews.ie)
Rather not say but it's accurate.
Do we have any idea of dealers? Will be looking to change my MG ZS before it's 1 and this interests me. Even with the smaller battery, if it's more efficient that shouldn't hit range too much. Wouldn't mind going to see one.
MDL are distributors so MSL will sell.
Just Msl?
Would be nice to have direct on line sales.
Yes
Dealers are aiming for a may launch.

Saw this on the electric viking you tube, seagull not coming here for the near future.
No loss there. It does not look like anything special anyway. A Chevy Spark from over a decade ago looks more modern.
It is a really small and cheaply priced EV, we need more of those on the market.
A lot of people wouldn't care too much about the looks if it suited their needs.
Yes good point. Of course by the time it got here it would probably be €20,000.
Saw on Facebook a photo of a truck arriving with a few if these BYDs on board.
Test drive cars I'm guessing?
I'd suspect so but hopefully they get a regular delivery.
Looks like it's two garages in Dublin and one in cork at the moment. So I won't be test driving anytime soon unless they pick one in Galway or Limerick.
Will they go for Sandyford, Tesla seem to attract other marques
msl arent in sandyford?
there 100s in the country now, they will be retailing later this month.
Could be a useful spot, I know Polestar are just around the corner from Tesla.
Maybe if someone is out looking for a Tesla, they might go for a 'tesla' instead (similar to how 'hoover' is generic for vacuum cleaner)
Any idea on pricing yet?
Monday week
They have come to the Irish market at a difficult time, they will need to price less than Tesla for similar models I would think
The Han starts at 72k no?
I'd expect the Han to be up around that. But It's just the Atto3 coming here for now.
The Tesla price drop comes at a bad time for them. MG's big selling point was you were getting 50-ish-k worth of car tech in the ZS for 35k. I'd thought BYD would aim for that market.
But that's changed a lot with the model 3 dropping to 40k and the ZS going up to 40k it's becoming much harder to make a case for these non Teslas now unless they do a serious introduction offer.
Looking at pricing in the UK the BYD might actually land here at around 45k!!
Which would make it a very hard sell. I guess the only thing in their favour is they are old school dealers so you can trade in a car. Tesla is just a shop so you need to offload your own car yourself.
If they go aggressive and do an intro offer and give decent trade in value then they should shift a load.
Atto3 will start at 40k
Is that a "start at" 40k but when you buy it they add dealer delivery and charges which usually bumps it another €1500-2000k. So it's closer to an entry point of 42 and higher spec at 45k?
I'd be trading my 222 ZS so it might cost 10k to change over. Not sure it's worth it.
I think ( don't quote me) that 40k incl dealer del
Is that before or after the grant?
One more week for prices.
Next Monday
