Fair play to Today FM with the money they have raised for Focus Ireland today. For all their 'content creation', you wouldn't see RTE be so charitable.
Pamela Joyce and Dermot and Dave knocked their busking challenges out of the park. Pamela was like she was in an actual cover band. The less said about Ian's attempt this morning, the better though. Absolutely cringy, as if it was sprung on him ten minutes beforehand.
Speaking of Ed, he's bringing out his own podcast. Saw a link on instagram to Mario Rosenstock's podcast, where Ed is a guest and talks about it.
Think the cringe is part of it really. They’re not supposed to be superstar singers.
I laughed personally, and thought Pamela was excellent. She’s just a natural entertainer.
Thought Cathal from Dermot & Dave had the best performance of the day! Ray's tuba a close second. 😂
Um... Late Late Toy Show Appeal? €17 million raised since 2020.
Cathal sounded like a professional singer - really polished performance! He may have missed a calling!
Proper LOL’d at Rays tuba performance. 😂
So much dead air from Ray today. "So... there's this... em... a woman on a flight... ... ... took matters into her own hands... when..." and took about another minute to tell us he was reading a story from The Sun about some woman who complained about someone farting repeatedly on a flight.
But after the first minute of dead air, he stretched the segment out to at least five minutes, complete with fart noises. Jesus **** christ - puerile wasn't the word for it! Thank feck I got home when I did - Hub on, 8 Radio playing some decent tunes, no inane shite.
You sir, need to ring Joe Duffy.....
I remember once hearing Gerry Ryan on his mid-morning show on 2FM doing an impression of cows farting, or worse. This went on for at least 10 minutes!
Whatever happened to Cliff Walker, who at one stage was the presenter of Friday Night 80s?
He has been working in Europe for DW and Euronews under the name Keith Walker, here him here https://www.dw.com/en/inside-europe-24012020/audio-52136408
And here he is on a hot summers evening in 2003 doing the iconic 80s showhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C07396uyKDs
I've heard more country music in the last couple of weeks than I've heard in years, thanks to Today FM and the new Go Loud country promos. If they ever bring out an opera station, they'll have Dermot & Dave playing Wagner and Dec Pierce playing Carmen...
"This Easter weekend we're letting you take over our airwaves*"
* Just so long as the songs you pick are the pre-selected songs we've picked
I noticed the cash machine amount has dropped significantly too. The starting amount this week was 10k.
I don't get out of bed and text win to whatever the number is for less than €10,000!
But yes, it usually starts around €15k? Wonder what's up there, you'd imagine they'd have gone high with the bank holiday weekend.
I might look for a request, though. 🤔 Maybe Outkast's "Hey ya!" or the Spice Girls "Wannabe"...
It has gradually gotten lower and lower. Was around the 15k mark until recently but dropped to 10k this week.
Turned on Ed Smyth last night as I read before hitting the sack.
Coming up Bon Jovi, No Doubt and Alanis Morissette says Ed, switch over to Tom Dunne says I.
Tom played a new Hozier song (I'm not a fan but it was decent) followed by a Fontaines Dc cover of a Nick Drake song.
Got me thinking. Have Bauer Media decided that rather than pitch Ed against Tom Dunne, they would force Ed to play generic pop rock playlist stuff while Tom Dunne chooses his own, more discernable music.
In other words, Ed drew the short straw and had to take one for the team.
Did anyone hear what number one was in the Today FM 'top 500 songs' they were doing today?
They went on till 7, I dunno what song, and then suspended it for yer man's dance music programme. Dunno when it's coming back on.
I found it really good to listen to, Dara Quilty sounded good with just the right amount of chat and a load of tunes instead of the usual chaos. The countdown continued this morning with some other guy. Good to hear Lithium by Nirvana at like half 1 🙌
Excellent... You hardly know what song they kicked off today with?
Funny how when Todayfm play a more varied range of music, people love it.
Makes you wonder why they can't include these type of songs on their daily playlists, instead of Ed Sheerin, Dermot Kennedy, Sam Smith and Sia on repeat.
Answers on a postcard to John Cadell, Marconi House, Dublin 2 - he seems to be the genius behind the new "rock" show from 10pm Sunday-Thursday
I had to go and check online coz it was annoying me. Was the whole of the moon by waterboys and Steven Daly was the other guy 😂
Stephen Daly and Dara Quilty... There must be a serious lack of decent presenters. Trying to perfect flicking to another station while they talk, and flicking back in time for the next song, is tough.
Because the Ad agencies decide what radio stations play, that Rex Bob Lowinstine song isn't fiction
What do you like to see other presenters do that they don’t? I’m asking purely because over the years I’ve seen and heard a lot about how there’s no good presenters anymore but it’s not obvious to me what these presenters should be doing to be a ‘good’ presenter.
I quite like Dara Quilty’s personality and Stephen Daly is good at keeping things going. I wouldn’t turn off because either of them are on.
I do think there are worse out there. Dara’s got a quirky way with him, and Stephen has clearly worked in a tight music station before, coz his links are super quick. But each to their own obvs.
Today FM haven’t really any ‘music’ presenters outside of Ed Smith and now Stephen Daly. Everybody seems to be interested in talking for ages so Stephen can be a nice change of pace.
That could be because less people are entering it, I guess people won't fork out €2.50 a day indefinitely and will eventually lose interest.
What? Really? So they're telling radio stations what to play in order to attract a certain demographic and keep them listening and listening to their ads? Ah God... So say if Dakota by the Stereophonics is due up next and the DJ decides "It's always Dakota, I'll play Pick A Part instead", he can't?
