Texoil dropped prices by 60euro for 1000 litres since friday. Was 640 now 580 in Galway It's going to be cheaper in 2-3 weeks as crude oil dropped 23% on todays markets
Ordered 500L from Top Galway for €490
488 from Kerry petroleum for 500l
Using code WRK30 it's €657.98 https://certaireland.ie/order-form/?fT=3706&c=MH&q=700&vR=13.50&uP=0.8546
81 cents a litre at the pumps across the border. Doesn't matter how much it rises or drops in price here it's always cheaper in NI.
That's pricey compared to Dandys who are still showing it at 76cpl at the pump.
Jumped in today at that price. 500l should see out the summer. It's basically just for hot water from here till October and the solar tubes help out a bit there too.
I hear you €580 for 1000 litres 2 years ago.
I was holding out on buying more oil, but pulled the trigger today 499 for 500 litres in offaly.
I didn't want to risk running out and getting stung on the price.
Cancel it and get it off Certa for €477.98 with code WRK30. https://certaireland.ie/order-form/?fT=3706&c=OY&q=500&vR=13.50&uP=0.8687
it will be as vat rate is 5% (13.5% here) and you don't have much carbon tax in the north yet. Then you also have the cost of taking it in drums and then the hassle of pouring those drums into your tank without messing it up
And remember, don't fill up with diesel up there as its about 18c/L higher than the south.
Prices are probably going to rise a little soon as current pricing reflects the mid march $70-$72 oil price and it is now $85. But the dollar has weakened 2% and refinery costs have dropped about $5, so the net increase will be in the region of 5c-6c/L.
Remember extra carbon tax of 2c comes in on May 1st on kero (already applied to motor fuel)
Got 500 litres last night from certa for 474 using your code, many thanks. That will easily see me into the winter as there's around 200 litres in the tank.
I know off topic but anyway here goes.
I see a lot of posts now saying the 500 litres will see them into the winter.
I wouldn't turn on my boiler from mid April to mid September. Use the immersion for hot water for a shower (have one electric shower that half the household use). Am I better off heating the boiler onto HW only instead of the immersion.
The general consensus seems to be that it's cheaper to turn the oil on.
If you have a decent night rate and a timer, that may be different
My question is - do I fill my tank now (currently half full) or wait till later in the year. I will use very little before Autumn. I know it’s an educated guess but I would like hear your opinions. Thanks.
I use the boiler with the rads off. It's just for 30 mins a day I like to run the burner every day prevents problems with damp etc I service it in August.
Not being smart but it's just impossible to predict, I don't like the tank being too full over the summer maybe nothing would happen but it always looks too swollen 🫣
Thanks for that. I don’t like it too full for too long either.
Anyone know the lifespan of these oil tanks. I ordered Friday but specifically avoided filling the tank because of how swollen it appeared after the last time I filled it
Most tanks only have a 5 year warranty. If there is any swelling or cracking I'd replace it immediately. I know plenty of tanks are in situ for over 20 years but mine was about 12- 15 years old when it split, leaking into the ground next to the house. Mine was a very minor leak but still resulted in a 20k+ insurance claim and about 5 months of hassle with insurance company, assessors, environmental companies etc. and loss of my no claims bonus.
I googled this recently and the results stated 10 - 15 years average life span. Mine is in 27 years so Im not sure if i should be worried or not. Then again the Google results were mostly from businesses selling tanks so you would expect them to do a bit of scare mongering.
For the plastic ( non-metal) ones, sunlight is the biggest enemy. If it was originally green, blue, Red Orange or blue, but now is a shade of grey, I'd be backing away as fast as I could. I've had a green one for years and its still its original color, but I've kept it in a shed.
Went with Top Oil at €479.98 with code WINTER10 for €10 off the online price. We're in Connemara.
Got a double skinned tank last year to replace a tank that was there 20 years. It has micro cracks.danger was the pressure of a fill would burst it.
Edit. Got 500l yesterday for 488. It's now 498
Do you look at the diesel refining margin (approx $22 at the moment) or something else?

East cork oil, 500 litres for €500, if anyone in that area.
my oil tank (Full, ) is the same tank since house was built 22 years ago, it’s still Green in colour though, never even thought to change it
A few doing it cheaper on https://www.cheapestoil.ie/heating-oil-prices/Cork but not sure if they cover east Cork.
Will hold off until the summer when it will inevitably fall lower
Yeah, I never considered a failing oil tank to be such an expensive issue as previous poster mentioned.
It's happened a few neighbours, but their tanks were fully exposed to the elements for 20 years.
If they are covered or sheltered they'll probably last a lot longer.
👍👍Well, thanks for the info. It's an old tank, not sure how old, since it was here when we bought the house. It's sheltered, but I will definitely check it more regularly.
One member here had a 40k insurance claim for a clean up after the tank split. 😖
