something like this might work
Sweet Jesus, they (trump, GOP, GQP, fox) really are pathetic. Aren't they? At this stage it's like kicking a puppy.
I'm assuming we'll get a sad little drive-by like the one above over the next few days...
I’d say De Santis must be rubbing his hands together.
"It's not the conspiracy, it's the coverup." The GJ went on for awhile and interviewed a lot of witnesses. Probably all kinds of campaign finance shenanigans were discovered besides this one.
34 counts is impressive. That's a lot of potential jail time.
"The People of the State of New York vs. Donald J. Trump." Nice ring to it.
It is the Manhattan DA that indicted him so it will be City of New York vs Donald J Trump.
And, blast from the past thought he may be, Larry Kudlow, the worst economic adviser in US history, predicted an hour before the announcement that TFG would not be indicted. Wrong again, Larry
Figures Kudlow's a talking head for Faux. They lie for a living, like Kudlow.
....
This lad wants the national guard called out by De Santis to protect Trump
Ooops.
Weisselberg has talked , has to be.
I know the US loves their multiple counts stuff in indictments , but there's no way they could come up with 34 counts just for the Stormy Daniels thing.
DeSantis could move to try and protect Trump somehow, but if there is any protection he is able to provide (and it could well be nil), it will come with a number of conditions, I'm sure.
Main concern would be the whole political attack angle that Trump is going to try and work to his advantage. If he's bang to rights on a number of crimes, he's bang to rights. I think the Republican establishment would, if not get behind the charges, at least not jeer and shout, 'Soros!' if it were not for a sizable proportion of their base still backing Trump to the hilt. No doubt you have your Q people believing that Stormy Daniels was born of a goat and sent to tempt Trump and so on. Whatever crime(s) Trump is accused of, it'll be a deep state conspiracy in 3,2,1...
There's also the worry that if Trump is convicted and this stops him from running for president (somehow in America, this isn't simply a given), DeSantis does get the nod and essentially melds Trumpian policies/talking points with a degree of political competency, actually making him worse for American and the world (especially Ukraine) than Trump. It's possible that more Democrat strategists are worried about this development than Republican ones are, right now.
You can say a lot about Yank politics, but the one thing you can never say is it ever gets boring.
At least the donald can join his jan 6th choir now
NYPD taking this very seriously, all 36,000 officers have been ordered to have their uniforms ready so lots of detectives who havent worn a uniform in years have to be ready to kit out. They are planning a huge show of force for next Tuesday when he gets arrested.
I think they are vastly overestimating what is going to happen. The MAGAs will do nothing except get arrested along with Trump himself. Lets not forget out of his 70 million voters in 2020 only 5,000 showed up to his Fight Like Hell speech on January 6th. Trump is deluded if he thinks there are going to be mass scale protests about his arrest, most people couldnt care less about him and they certainly wont be going to riot for him as he so desperately wants.
In any case the grand jury in Georgia are sitting at the moment considering charges against Trump for trying to steal the election. Thats where his real danger is coming from right now and then after that the FBI are likely to charge him for stealing nuclear secrets and having them sitting unsecured around Mar a Lago. And then in between that he has a defamation trial in New York against Jean Carrol who claims he raped her. He is so fcuked it is not funny, the remainder of his life will be spent defending legal cases and trying to keep himself out of prison.
If Desantis gets the nod, I doubt that the support for trump will automatically back RDS. Yes maybe some but his polling outside florida is abysmally low and I doubt the trump marketing team will move to backing him. Question is if trump cannot run, will Biden run?
There's also the worry that if Trump is convicted and this stops him from running for president (somehow in America, this isn't simply a given),
It isn't a bar at all.
Now, that's a great question. Biden supposedly will announce in April, well, April's tomorrow. Be a really fascinating campaign if both he and TFG aren't running. Harris v. DeSantis/Mayor Pete v. Haley, who knows.
As a show of dominance over trumps baby hands?
Well, that is why they have their guns, in case a descendent of King Charles III travels over and makes them feel small.
DeSantis won't and can't do a thing, other than make public noises , he has no legal ability to block a warrant etc.
I think that the fears of DeSantis potentially being the more competent and politically savvy version of Trump are largely put to rest now.
Outside of the Florida fever dream he is hugely unpopular and has shown himself to be not very smart or politically astute.
Disney just gutted him in Florida without breaking sweat and he is viewed as a weak flip-flopper by most.
Any chance to crow bar in this scene
Seems Jimmy Carter might pass away in the coming days, he is in palliative care in Georgia. Meaning Trump would be expected to attend his funeral with all the other living ex Presidents and Biden too.
Imagine he wasn't able to due to being in custody
I would say the chances of him sitting with Biden, Obama, Bush and the Clinton’s is next to zero. He won’t be going, it requires dignity.
Pecker (snigger) is talking. McDougal was before Clifford, another catch and kill story.
Then we have the CFO stuff..
Can't wait until the charges are unsealed.
Though i'm sure he will post something thoughtful and dignified on Truth Social.
Current polling has it tight in a hypothetical race of DeSantis/Biden as of this moment. There is, of course, much time in between. I believe Biden to be a sane man who has his heart in the right place, but his age alone would count against him in a big way against a much younger candidate like DeSantis and it gets harder if one of these Republican rivals can formulate a message that builds a coalition of moderate and more extreme parts of the Republican base. Something I think DeSantis is obviously trying to do with his whole 'woke!' angle. And a big advantage of DeSantis or indeed virtually any other Republican contender (most of whom are running with at least some of the tenets of Trumpism) is that they're not going to radicalise the vote against them, as Trump managed to do in 2016.
If TFG wouldn't attend the inauguration of Joe Biden, I don't think he could bring himself to attend the funderal of Democratic president.
The problem that DeSantis has is that Trump will run in the Primary , no matter what happens in the NY case.
DeSantis (or any GOP candidate really) can't actually take any meaningful shots at Trump because they are terrified of how his "base" might react.
So they'll all say weak-sauce things like "It's time to move on and look forward" blah blah blah , but none of them will have the bottle to actually go after him and call him what he is - A serial loser facing multiple court cases alleging increasing degrees of criminality up to and including possible charges of sedition and treason.
Trump on the other hand will go nuclear on them all and bring up every single piece of dirt that he can find on them.
Because the GOP as a whole are cowards and charlatans , Trump will be their candidate in 2024.
The only thing that will stop that is if one of the potential charges he is facing in either Georgia or the Federal cases under Jack Smith results in a conviction that allows for the 14th amendment to come into play.
