So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
Saturday was utter chaos with stop-and go at both ossory road AND at Summerhill/NCR jn so both the main and diversionary route blocked. No idea what idiots plan this stuff out
I just keep an eye on where they plan the stop go works and avoid them. They are fairly well advertised.
Sounds like they've been managing it pretty well. Some posters seemed to think the entire city was going to stop. From what I can gather a few people are being held up for a few minutes here and there and that's all.
Any day now and the council will do their u-turn and allow traffic go back to normal! 😂
Just wait til all the detractors of this project are out on their bikes and telling their friends how amazing it is to be able to safely cycle from the city to Sutton on safe, segregated cycle paths. "I don't know why they didn't build this years ago Mary"
The fact that Fairview and North Strand were always kips and this project will make it all so much more pleasant is what will win people over I reckon.
Where does it actually end when you're going into town? Around where the methadone clinic is on Amiens St?
I'm reminded of a tailor who objected to a plan to pedestrianise a city street saying how it would affect businesses yet was front and centre of the photos taken celebrating opening day!

Like the Dublin City centre businesses association who were so against the original Luas lines linking up but almost the day it opened were demanding they get linked up.

I see the space where there was 'no room' for bus stop 617 (which was removed despite assurances that its absence was only going to be temporary) has now been made into car parking spaces. You couldn't make it up.
Sounds like you didn't actually see what went on last Saturday.
The one lane shared in both ways on North Strand backed up traffic coming from Fairview (buses, taxis, cyclists and the usual private cars that are not supposed to go that way) and also traffic of all sorts coming out of town.
Meanwhile, those diverted along Ballybough for North Strand were unable to join the already backed up traffic at the Five Lamps, so they backed up Portland Row and Ballybough, back as far as Kirwan's in Fairview.
Someone should buy 'Road Control' a couple of walkie-talkies.
2nd incident I have seen on this stretch this morning. Small van using the bus/cycle lane passed within cms of the cyclist in front of me. The guy banged the side of the van (as you do). The van driver took offense to this and kind of swerved and jammed on his brakes at the same time making me have to brake hard to stop running into the back of him.
Yep. The entire community lost a bus stop but 3 people will be able to park their cars. Great
was he knocked down by a wayward pedestrian?
A new CBD and vape shop has opened up where Duggan's used to be. Passed it on the bus earlier.
After two days of cycling into work along fairview and the north strand you’ll need to brush up on some off-road skills. I’m glad they are making these changes but my word the state they are leaving the roads in is something else.
Not much option though. They can't really resurface it every evening.

They do it up in Belfast just fine, it certainly isn’t rocket science!
I’d also point out that the M50 system is quite different. There they want people to actively sign up to accounts and actively fine every car who doesn’t pay.
yWith bus lane cameras and red lights cameras, you don’t need to catch every single car, if some get away with it, not the end of the world, you just want enough fined that people will start avoiding it.
Also no need for account setup and management and all that. You are paying a fine, so it would be more like the existing Luas, Irish Rail, etc online fine payment system.
Sure you’d need some staff to handle maintaining cameras and handling objections, etc. but I’m sure that the fines would more then cover those costs. Image recognition systems aren’t anything special these days, hell I’ve a cheap security camera that can do it.
Now congestion charging, now that would be more like the M50 system, with accounts, etc.
LMAO, I just looked it up, apparently the bus lane cameras in Belfast bring in over £4million per year, one camera alone brings in £1.5 million!
Yet all the cameras cost just £165,000 to install and they cost just £124,000 per year total to operate, including all the back office support, etc.
A complete no brainier.
The issue isn't one of cost but rather the DoJ and AGS not wanting to hand control of enforcement to a council. Various excuses have been given including concerns for people's privacy but it can all be peeled back to a reluctance to hand over power.
Another reason we should all look forward to a new united Ireland. All government contracts are nil and void. Let’s start again properly please.

Latest East Wall Road closure (between North Strand Road and Alfie Byrne Road) - March 31st to April 17th - 19.30 to 06.00.
Absolutely no advance information given to residents about this. I just saw the signage while coming in the Malahide Road today.
I think they just make it up as they go along.
