Apparently Now only supports the 3rd Generation version of Chromecast.
I checked whether Now TV is available through the Google Play store on the Mecool Km9 Pro Box and it is not.
My Mecool box appears up to date which surprised me because I haven't used it in a long time. Mecool must have stopped supporting the Km9 Pro.
I had hoped that the Chromecast version within it could be updated.
Given that the Mecool is not being updated is there any point investing in a new Android Box considering new TVs come with the latest Android and Google TV platforms already installed?
I'd try sideloading the apk first and seeing if it works that way. Failing that if you really want Now TV then yeah a new Chromecast with Google TV should do the job. You probably wouldn't lose much if you sell on the Mecool box.
Have to say. Love this thread. Got a great box few years ago from a recommendation on here for 40 euro from geekbuying. Still doing the business.
Thanks, how do I find the APK and is there any way of verifying if it is genuine?
apkmirror is a reputable site so you can trust it if it’s posted on there.
Can anybody recommend a new android box that ISN'T running android TV.
I'm not too tech savvy and I like how my Minix neo U1 is pretty easy to use, almost similar to my phone and I know how everything works. I've tried the kids android TV boxes and just don't like them.
The Minix is really showing its age now running android 5 and it's noticeably slowing down with certain apps. I have it over 6 years so can't really complain.
Budget, I'm happy to pay whatever as long as it's from a decent brand and has a decent computer, memory and ram. Preferably 32gb minimum but my Minix is only 16gb and is fine with a usb stick.
Any ideas? Or should I just suck it up and go for a good android TV box and make myself use it.
Thanks, I'll check that out
i find android tv fine to use, i had a mecool for a little while, running standard android, and i found both easy enough to get use to, wanted to replace the mecool with another box but went with the chromecast, no complaints so far, works well....
You could buy any box and just load the same or similar launcher that's on your Minix box.
I like android TV,I wouldn't buy any box that doesn't have it tbh.
Thanks lads. The Chromecast is out anyway as it isn't suitable for a few things I use.
Ive been looking at the Formuler Z11 Pro Max. The reviews of its internal IPTV player are very good as it lets you pause/rewind/record and series link which most don't apps allow. It's android TV tho so I might just have to suck it up and sideload a few apps I use with downloaded apks.
Another slight issue is no certified Netflix, so no HD but my Minix doesn't either and I can live with the SD version I've put on.
The internal IPTV app is what's pushing me towards it over one of the mecool boxes or a shield.
Has anyone used one of these Formuler boxes? Most reviews are very good but I'd like to hear from someone who actually has one.
I set up a Formuler box for a friend.I can't remember which box but the IPTV app is very good.
Sorry I don't know if they could record.Never tried it .
I've had 3 formuler boxes over the years z7, z8 and got the z11 pro max a few weeks back. It's blows any other box out of the water if using mainly for IPTV . I have a couple of providers one set up through stalker portal and one Xtreme codes both record no problem
Thats a very good spec and also a nice looking box. Since you've had a few what they like for updates? You think z11 box will get any android OS updates?
Support is very good they have an active support group on the formuler website and a telegram channel, updates are regular the older boxes are still receiving them. Not sure about an O/S update though
Thanks. Normally wouldn't care about OS updates but at z11 price was curious. Got 100mb bband line in (a lot for where I live) and 4k iptv so looking for a good HDR box now.
I've only had my Z11 Pro max a week but so far I'm very impressed with it. I got it from digitalgadgets in Dublin as they were the cheapest I could find.
I had a few issues setting up the MYTVOnline app but got it sorted and it's fantastic. The lad I bought it from was very helpful here. It's as quick as a sky box for flicking thru channels and the pause/rewind works perfectly. I haven't actually recorded anything bar trying it out and it seemed to work fine. The way you can set up a favourites section for the TV works really well too so I'm only seeing the channels I want and not the same channels 3 times in SD/HD/FHD.
One thing that's bothering me is I can't seem to find an app for moving files around.
Netflix is available but it's an old app and doesn't have HD so it's not great, I was using the same version on my last box and it wasn't really an issue. I recently realised that I have an up-to-date Netflix on my TV so I've been using that but the one on the box works perfectly, it just isn't as fluid.
Can anyone recommend a file manager app for Android TV?
I've loads of stuff on my usb but when I watch it, I can't delete it. I cant download onto the box and transfer to the usb either. I used to have ES file explorer on my last box but I can't get it for the Formuler and any app I've tried has been useless.

That wouldn't work either, after a Google search it seems external files can't be deleted from Android TV version 8 or after.
I seem to be having issues with downloading files to external too so probably the same reason.
Would anyone know what size jack connector the MINIX NEO U1 TV takes?
I bought one of these but it doesnt seem to fit. I think the barrel size is actually correct.. but its the inner piece thats too small if that makes sense.
Dont have that exact box but have some on that list with different size pins in the power port (tx3 mini and mxq). The mxq has a bigger power pin (and is in that advert as a supported box) and the power lead fits both no problem admittedly the mxq takes a bit more pressure. You sure you just arent giving it enough pressure to push into the port?
thanks for the input.
I did try again just now. Its definitely not a case of not applying enough pressure.
My LG TV keeps turning on my android box (x96 max+) when I go to change input screen or when I start up netflix. Its a pain in the hole.
From googling the problem Ive turns these 2 settings off but ita still happening:
I haven't looked in x96 settings as I didn't have this problem with previous TV.
Any ideas to fix?
Thanks.
Folks
Looking for something that'll play movies from a memory key and that'll connect to TV via HDMI. That's about all I need really but if it could also run Netflix and YouTube that would be a bonus. As you can imagine I'm not looking to break the bank here.
What is this like? Worth a punt? Anything better than that for around the 40 or 50 euro mark? Really don't need to be spending more than €50
Thanks
