"Woke up this morning" by Alabama 3 aka the theme tune for the Sopranos. Sounds very like Fun Lovin' Criminals (ironically:)
Very Lightning Seeds-esque this one. Incidentally both bands are from Liverpool
This Belvedere Kane song is reminiscent of Pet Shop Boys during their "Very" era.
The Belvedere Kane one also reminds me of Erasure on the vocals.
The frontman being Barry Stone who would become half of the Jewels and Stone writing and production duo. Never Felt As Good was the closing track on Telstar's Best Of Dance '96; a devastatingly brilliant slice of doomed romantic modernism. Sadly it failed to trouble the top 75 and has never been compiled elsewhere. A well kept secret and one pop’s lost classics - cheers for posting it!
I was reading about it earlier. Nice bit of "Romo"!!
The most Fleetwood Mac sounding song from a Fleetwood Mac inspired plot... from Amazon series Daisy Jones and the Six
Let Me Down Easy.
The rain at the start even reminds me of "It's a Sin".
The song only reached #127 in Britain, pity it didn't do great. I can't imagine it got much promotion.
Apparently he's Irish as well.
This reminds me of Simple Minds.
Chorus of Fantasy Island from Tight Fit sounds like ABBA.
Great tune.
The singer of this German band reminds me vocally of Dolores O'Riordan.
This one reminds me a lot of Gabrielle...
The new Cian Ducrot one has the Script written all over it to me.
And this could easily be misattributed to Lady Gaga.
The newest Peter Wilson EP harks back to a 1989-era Jason Donovan.
i genuinely thought this was talking heads or david byrne when i first heard it.
’Tuesday Morning’ by The Pogues with Spider Stacey singing sounds very much like Joe Strummer the song could easily be off The Clash’s Sandinista album.
’A Prayer for me in Silence’ by Flogging Molly sounds very much like Shane McGowan and The Pogues but a lot of Flogging Molly’s tunes are similar to Pogues tunes.
there's a very cocteau twins vibe off a lot of beach house stuff too:
in a similar dream-pop vein:
Weyes Blood's "God turn me into a flower"
and Julee Cruise's "Mysteries of Love"
Jane by Jefferson Starship 1979 sounds just like Rainbow in the early eighties with Joe Lynn Turner.
Zero 7's tune 'Destiny' (featuring lyrics by a then unknown Sia) could have been lifted right off of Air's album Moon Safari.
"Roadrunner" by Johnathan Richman and the Modern Lovers
If you slowed the tempo down a bit and sang it in a Jim Morrison voice this song could slot onto a late Doors' album like Morrison Hotel or LA. Woman.
Might also need to change lines like "I'm in love with Massachusetts" to "I'm in love with California".
I honestly thought horse with no name was a Neil Young song til recently
that's a very common misconception.
The new Groenalund song doesn't try to hide its influences.
The Coral must've been fans of Crosby Stills & Nash judging by the vocal harmonies on this track . . even the guitar solo is reminiscent of Neil Young's.
Getting "Crazy"-era Seal vibes from this one. Think Seal meets UB40.
Their other track "Egyptian Reggae" reminds me of The Shadows a bit.
