As an act, it is beyond the pale.

It is deliberate nuclear proliferation outside of all international convention and in the course of a War.

It ought to give NATO the right to act in any way it pleases, but the first step is the UN Security Council. Russia need to be nailed to the wall by every right thinking nation and frankly, it will be the time to see the colour of the money of China, India, South Africa and others.

There is no qualification of nuclear weapon proliferation. Either these Countries demonstrate that they are against it, or by their inactions they show that they are for it. And for that they must face consequences.

In and of itself, its just another massive strategic misstep by Russia, in a litany of strategic missteps. And Putin will burn for it.

Presumably Putin is thinking, if they fire a nuke from there, it's Belarus that's gonna get turned to glass first.

Must have got the OK from Xi for it.

It's been on the cards for months, it's nothing new unfortunately , along with the permanent deployment of Russian troops to Belarus,

As it stands Belarus is currently under occupation and on the road to being reabsorbed into the mother Russias arms and the population of Belarus have zero say in the whole **** show

It says to me Putin is scrambling for ideas… to be seen to do something. They are getting their arse handed to them in Ukraine. Typical Russian.

it means nothing. Instead of Russian missiles in Russia’s control within Russia, they are Russian missiles in Russia’s control in Belarus. No difference. Russia would suffer exactly the same way as if Putin fired them from Russia.

The story is there’s no story.

Things are not going well for Russia if they are raising the nuclear threat.

No story except nuclear weapons on Natos door step once again,it's like he's goading Nato or Poland to remove the mig 31s from the game ,this giving the putin the excuse to blame escalation on Nato and the US ,and likely forces xi ping to enter the war in support of putin

Don’t see where you’re coming from here. Being on NATO’s doorstep? What strategic difference does it make being a couple of hundred miles closer to Europe. MAD remains MAD. Xi is going to back Putin because? Are you hitting the booze? 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

    It doesn't mean mad,

It means war spreading to other countries and less then stable governments having access to weapons that could wreak havoc elsewhere,

Nobody knows what the Chinese will or will not do , but Korea comes to mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,401 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

This is such a bad take on the situation.

Putin waving the nuclear card isn't a sign of strength - it's a sign of desperation.

Still not following you. I don’t see the issue. To me it’s a guy with a poor poker hand saying he’s going to bring out the draughts set.

    Exactly.

And desperate people do dangerous things

That’s what he hopes the West will think.

I think they’ll think he’s talking smack. The Russians love the mind games, it’s what they can afford.

    No you didn't.

You said Crimea would be liberated much earlier than that.

You haven't asked me, but I'll answer anyway. Ukraine will have Crimea back under its sovereign control by April 30th.

I'm confident, because Russia is running quickly out of warfighting materials and even faster out of men interested in fighting for the fascist Putin and his cronies.

Yes nobody know what the Chinese will do. But we do know he came (went to Russia), he saw( he met Putin) and he did not conquer.

He was supposed to give peace proposal's. I suspect he knows the game is up and wants f@@k all to do with Putin's mess. He know well that Putin cannot win he probably wanted to confirm ( he have all sort of medical and physiological specialists with him) how good or bad Putin's health is.

What ever he saw he f@@ked off back to China and made no proposal's. He is probably licking his chopsticks thinking about what parts of Russia he can grab when this is all over. Never invite wolf into your home and that is what Putin did.

If Putin starts firing nukes, his relationship with China and India is over.

Putin's doubles have just been told that someone has tried to kill Putin. They said there is good news and bad news. The good news is that he has survived the attempt and they still have their jobs. What's the bad news they ask. Well he lost a leg..

Moscow Mick probably thinks Siberia is Courtown.

This is the collective history of Eastern European countries under Russian occupation.

Seems a stalemate right now. Russia running out of steam in Bakhmut. Ukraine making little progress in Kremina.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,520 ✭✭✭Fighting Tao

Easily obtained by Russia leaving Ukraine immediately. However, I doubt that’s how you would want peace to look like.

True. Lots of folks sometimes forget about Russia's little enclave. There are daily flights of Il76's in and out of it's airports and they're not carrying fruit, I can tell you.

In 2018, Russia finished revamping it's Nuclear Warhead Storage facility

    Kaliningrad-Bunker_ED100116DG1.jpg

Also, it's primary, over-the-horizon radar station at Pionersky has been causing all sorts of interference with GPS navigation in the Baltics and with the 5G networking Lithuania, Poland, Latvia etc.

Built in 2012, it has only reached full operational capacity over the last few years. You can find it just west of Kaliningrad city at the old Dunayeskiy Airport, as shown below.

    Screenshot_20230326-071337_Earth.jpg

But the way, the interference with aircraft tracking and reporting, such as ADS-B in and out, is quite serious as more and more countries move away from relying on primary radar for ATC separation and tracking.

For example, Ireland, believe it or not, has no primary radar. In other words, if I take my little C42 up from the little airport I use, but neglect to switch on my transponder, Shannon Control ( my 1st point of contact) have no way of knowing that I am airborne. They have to rely on the UK primary radar for that. ( plus, I'll be having a stern conversation with someone in the IAA....)

However, this aircraft type, because of weight, is not technically required to carry an ads-B Out unit but we have one anyway, because the airfield is just outside the EIKN controlled airspace. It's used on most of the aircraft and switched on just before taxiing. We will therefore show up on both the ATC screens and the TCAS systems of any inbound commercial flights.

Generally, we stay clear of Knock and instead annoy the good people of Sligo as the noisy Rotax wakes folk up from their Sunday slumber.

In fact, I'm heading off soon! Tally-ho chaps!

This reminds me of the little green parking men -lock hards - around the Rotunda hospital in Dublin. When a doctor said to one of them that he no longer requires his services because he has an Alsatian dog now in the car to ‘mind’ it. The little green man asked ‘ can it put out a fire sir’

so how does Luca use the said tactical nuclear weapons against his own people if they rise up against him???????????

I am mistified by all of this stuff / perception/ spin/ apparent army strength/ apparent army inventories , etc, etc, etc - especially on the Moscovite side.

The OVERALL FACT is that Moscovy - itself and the international community - thought that it could topple and take control of Ukr within three days to a week - because of the perception that Mo had the means to do it. As it had the numbers, the equipment and the desire to do it - FULLSTOP. So now how can we accept anything that comes out of there . EG all this talk of nuclear stuff being placed in Belarous could be only talk. Or if Mo/ Belarous wanted to give us the actual impression that they ‘actually’ have Mo sponsored nuclear stuff now just planted in Ukr to follow up on the ‘agreement made’ they could build a Hugh big shed and paint on its roof ‘ Nuclear missiles , Mo property, 10,000 reach’ or something to that effect even though they only use the shed for growing mushrooms. Who is to know what’s going on there

    There you have it.

Zelensky willing to talk but like Russia all this talk of peace from China is bluster.

Russia only understands one thing, and that must happen.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 17,955 Mod ✭✭✭✭Manic Moran

In fairness, that's also one of those oddities that we in the US look at European pilots and wonder about. There is no requirement for ADS-B or radio communication with ATC under VFR in the US unless you're flying in certain classes of airspace at certain altitudes. (That, night flying rules, landing fees, and I guess flight-following isn't an issue since you're mandated to talk to ATC)

But Xi has called a meeting with Countrys which would have been under Putins influnce, Kazakhstan, Krygyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and possibly Turkmenistan to a first China Central Asia summit. This is really rubbing Putins nose in it, and showing who is boss. Putin, you are finished, maybe not yet completely, but you are on the way, for sure.

"Russia was forced to do it..."

Worth pointing out that this same kind of gaslighting tactic is used by people to justify hitting their spouse, significant other or family member.
