So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
If I was in the house next door I'd be going mad.
I notice they have a 'Bus Stop suspended' where 617 was rather than stating outright that it has been done away with permanently. Perhaps whoever made the stupid decision might relent?
Slightly related issue - a female friend of mine got trapped with an unsavoury inebriated gentleman on what remains of the footpath and had a rather scary time trying to get away from him since the barriers have no break in them. There is quite a long stretch where there is no way out of the long narrow space.
They're neighbours, going through a house renovation, nobody's gonna fall out over it. Probably be more annoyed with construction starting at 8am each morning. A bit of grass seed and that'll be back good as new in a few months.
I believe the neighbours are on good terms with the builder there, somewhat unusually. If it's the one I know about, the house was vacant for ages, with significant problems, and those around are happy enough for disruption to get it sorted.
I’ve seen something similar on both sides of the Liffey.
Really? What a waste of money if that’s the case.
I've given up driving on the quays years ago. I once asked two Gardai in a van, in traffic on the quays, if they could do anything about the constant cars driving up the bus lane and pulling back into the regular lane close to O'Connell Bridge. Their response was "sure what can we do about it". Just made me more infuriated.
If only there was away to get it sorted without having builders vans wrecking the place.
New cafe opening in Fairview, in what looks like the old Duggan Jewellers unit? How will people be able to get there though...the cycle lane will be detrimental to their business.

They’ve blocked off the whole of Fairview now ready to start work on the other side. No road access to any of the shops. They all must be very concerned for the next year or so.
On the other side though, it's really looking great. Plants went in the other day, really close to being finished.
What way is it now - one lane each way?
Despite all the shuffling around, it's still essentially the same as it has been since they closed the inbound lane, just the locations of the lanes have moved a bit. They're still going to keep the inbound lane closed, as they'll still need the room to work on the other side.
It's actually the one to the right of Duggans. Used to be a vape shop I think.
Cheers, wasn't certain. Last time I passed there was a sale agreed sign up at Duggans, be interesting to see what business goes in there. A bike shop would be beautifully ironic, but there's already 2 in the area.
There’s road access to all the shops at the moment. Businesses said they were worried about access for deliveries, and customers. And it seems they’ve addressed that.
We’ll see. 🤞
I can't imagine ever leaving the house to go to Martin's or wherever in Fairview thinking I'll be able to get a parking spot right outside it. Any time I have driven to Fairview I'd park around St Joseph's somewhere, my old school.
Yeah, I'll often take the left at Josephs and park there. Other times I'll try park outside, and if there isn't a spot I'll keep going.
People expect to be able to park right outside the shop they want to go to though. The amount of people that park blocking the bus stop at Hillbilly's is unreal. And a lot of drivers thinks it's fine to hold up a bus for that reason.
Such a simple solution to mount a camera on every bus stop, with number plate recognition to automatically fine anyone driving in a bus lane or parking at a bus stop.
Nobody wants to do that really. They spent a fortune on a camera to catch people breaking the lights and hitting the luas down around Benburb St., then turned it off a few weeks later.
Nobody wants speeding cameras or clampers either, unfortunately they're a necessity.
Or a jewellers.
It's a coffee shop now, just opened yesterday and mad queues for it already.
Some don't want cameras or clampers whilst some others do want them. "Nobody" is an inaccurate term.
To be fair the system that manages the number plate recognition for the M50 takes about 100 people running it, between Customer Services to registers customers, accounts to manage the bouncing debits etc, staff checking the blurred images etc, IT managing the infrastructure. It's possible but lets not pretend it's a simple solution
A lot of that complexity comes from the volume of vehicles, the speed they’re passing at and the need to process them within a fixed timeline. A single camera mounted beside a bus lane would be a lot simpler.
No, it's where the vape shop was, not the jewellers. But it is funny how Duggans closed before the work could have any effect on his business, and Two Pups have opened right in the week the works moved over to that side of the road. And looks to be doing a roaring trade. Their shop on Francis st. had consistent queues at the weekends.
Yeah, there's enough people within walking distance to keep it busy. It's going to be mental around Fairview fir the next week or two while both sides are being worked on but should settle down.
I can't think of that style of coffee shop anywhere in the vicinity. And the kind of people that frequent the Francis St. shop also live around the Marino area.
And it's pretty handy for anyone that wants to grab a coffee before meeting people in the park.
Exactly the kind of place that you'd find along a really nicely designed, segregated cycle lane. 😂
