RTE's new 8 episode gangland drama with an all star cast.
AMC start date is September 9th I can't see a start date for RTE just a coming soon.
Why are you hounding me over my opinion of the show?
"Top of their game" ?? 🙄
Apart from Gillen Hinds and Cox....
Clare dunne:
Sam Keeley
Scanlan :
"homeless man" "Gym changing room guy " - "top of their game indeed" ........ 🤣🤣🤣
I suppose a man needs to eat!
It's co-produced between AMC and RTE. That's why there's so much diversity. Disproportionate amount of black characters compared to real Dublin. But America is all about box ticking now.
AMC screen it. Not produce it. There’s no American role.
it’s an Irish-Canadian Co-production.
Nothing rivalling it? In the busiest ever year for Irish film and TV production. 44 alone that Screen Ireland are involved in.
Kin will compete with The Dry, Smother, Vikings Valhalla, Gone, Nova Jones, Hidden Assets, Obituary, Clean Sweep and others this year.
And you probably need to know how Rotten Tomatoes works. After five critics have reviewed it they’ll give an appraisal. 60% is deemed to be critically acclaimed. Kin slightly passed that with 100%.
and a gay boss. Would that really fly in gangland dublin? I suppose it adds a layer to the drama but not realistic.
Don’t believe everything you read on Wikipedia. You missed out quite a few for Dunne though.
Thanks for proving my point on the others though. Couldn’t have done better myself.
The best bit was where you picked out a role from 14 years ago to make your point.
ever hear of Ronnie Kray?
In Italy women control over a third of the financial assets of the mob.
In this series neither of the women run their families but they play a significant role.
....ok ..... 😏
Top of their game indeed ...............
You still didnt explain why you hound me over my opinion...... I suppose its not the 1st time we've clashed ....
Info dump. You are aware that Clare Dunne is a theatre actress aren’t you? Specialising in Shakespeare and Chekhov in the Abbey and British National Theatre. The move to the screen is new. Hired by Ridley Scott recently. A good start.
They’ve all got international presence, and it’s increasing significantly. They’re pleased that you’re continuing to support their viewing figures. Keep watching.
Ronnie Kray had no hassle five/six decades ago. Several in the Cali and Medellin cartels. US and Italian gangsters.
it ain’t a new thing. Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar were gangsters of a sort.
In liberal 2023 Ireland who would give a damn?
I will.... Cant wait for all yere indepth detailed analysis on Monday ......
Are you her agent ...?
Theres no loophole yee wont fill .........
Does diversity mean two black actors? That's practically nothing. Yasmin Seky and Ryan Lincoln are both from Dublin. So their presence in the show does accurately reflect Dublin. And even if it didn't, why would it matter? The fact that people have more of an issue with the show having female bosses and black characters than the average writing is just really telling.
Her agent? No, it’s just a simple new activity called research. A world of information awaits you.
Yes, it will compete with those other dramas but my point is that none of them have the popularity that Kin has. I was complimenting the show. But I don't understand why you're so focused on the RT score; it has nine reviews. To me, that's not enough to be "critically acclaimed." When I think of critically acclaimed I think of shows like The Sopranos or The Wire. I don't think that Kin has even gotten to the point where domestically, it can be heralded as critically acclaimed. And that's not a bad thing at all. It's better than a lot of other shows RTE has put out and has been the most popular. But it doesn't have to be better than L/H or at its level. It can just be a decent show.
Do Think this should be the last of the these type of 'drug/crime' dramas by RTE as it will be a danger of rehashing the same old thing. This is getting 'Love/Hate' vibes which tbh is unavoidable given there's only so much can be done with the standard 'irish crime' drama
I wouldn't rule out some of the Love/Hate cast appearing in KIN. We've had the actors of Nidge, Tommy and Nadinne playing 'guards' on other Irish dramas. Sure we have John Boy and Dave the Lawyer in this already
Actually would like too see Fran show up in KIN in some sort of authority role. His very minor role character in 'Dublin Murders' was basically Fran
Rotten Tomatoes is just the simplest way of assessing a show’s critical popularity, same with Metacritic for music. And it’s not me but RT who deem it worthy of appraisal after five reviews. All those critics have been positive and it’s this acclaimed. That could change with poor reviews for this series.
Personally I think it’s a good show with great potential. It may or may not match that but I just think it gets undeserving criticism (not from you) from many here. It’s 7/10 for me, I’d be very if this season made it 8/10.
Mod: I asked already, stop the bickering and needling. That means you @greenspurs and @Seathrun66 specifically. Next comes cards.
I think Clare Dunne is very good as Amanda, she can control Jimmy and Michael, I would like to know if Michael did kill his ex, the mother of his child, at present she is running the family but when Bren gets out should be interesting
I’m not hounding you, I’m challenging unfair criticism, from you and @Beechwoodspark .
If you don’t like it, that’s fine. If you don’t think it’s a great script, that’s fine. I don’t think it’s a brilliant script. It’s good, not brilliant. It’s fine if you don’t like the dark, measured style.
To say that the acting is like Fair City is nonsense, like yer man’s claim that the Turkish actor playing a Turkish character had a dodgy accent, and casts a cloud over the rest of the critiques.
For me, I think it’s a good show. It’s not brilliant or special in the way Love Hate was. There are a few plot holes, just as there are in anything, even in top class dramas like Sopranos.
There's a lot more black characters than just two!
I think it's plainly obvious that the producers box ticked a lot of the characters.
Strange how a lot of people have no problem with positive discrimination.
Should there be a specific quota of black characters?
So? Who cares if there are black characters in the show? Your claim about pd is about Yasmin Seky, right? How she was street cast. I can assure you that you would've had no issue with this if it had been a white actress that was street cast instead. By your logic, producers can never hire black people in Irish films/ TV without it being "positive discrimination" or "ticked boxes."
Dublin is a multicultural city.
Dublin has prominent gay representation in most occupations.
Dublin has many women in elevated positions of power, including three leaders of significant political parties.
The idea that that self-same city should have none or few black characters nor women of authority nor gay characters in the family hierarchy is a puzzling one. It’s 2023 folks.
.
Do we know anything about Viking's mother?
She was a Celt
Well one things for certain, AMC seem to think there should be.
It's not representative of Dublin.
But she wasn't white? So your point is pointless. :)
Fact is Seky was working a normal job, had all but given up on acting and yet she gets a call from someone to ask her to audition because she was on a list from years previous.
How so?
