No point asking them.
Tesla Vision was released this week in the US in beta for some cars so it’s near……
Totally agreed, thought it was funny, next few weeks or next year
FSD was promised in 2019 IIRC
Hi
Have the mats bought, but what are people's thoughts on screen protectors? I hate them on phones....but
Didn't have one on my 2020 Model 3 and don't see why you'd need one
If you have kids, might be no harm. Might not be 100% needed but it's cheaper to peel off a scratched screen protector and pop on a new one than have to look at a scratched screen forever.
Max grant going from 5k to 3.5k from end June.
For all the new RWD Y peeps.
Ive seen a review by a new owner just posted on FB group advising suspension is very firm, is there still a chance some don't have comfort suspension
what are the opinions from new owners so far?
My suspension is not hard at all. It's very comfortable. That chap has some wheel issue on the car.
Think I saw one of these in the wild yesterday but there was no model number written on the back of it so can't be sure... Is the model number written elsewhere on them?
no model number means its the base RWD model.
Suspension is fine, no complaints here.
The tyre pressure was 45/46psi on pickup while 42 is recommended on the display.
Probably won't make a whole lot of difference to the ride quality but worth setting them to the correct pressure anyway.
Fair enough but how would you tell it apart from a Model X to the untrained eye for example? Both are SUV's that show the tesla logo
The X is bigger, has the rear gullwing doors and also has a small grille on the front with the Tesla logo, with the Y it’s on the bonnet, also only a handful of Xs in the country so chances are it’s a Y
the front is different and the car is visually different - also the X is a size bigger.
The door handles on the 3 and Y are the same, but black on all Y's, some older 3's have chrome handles. The MYLR and M3LR both say Dual Motor on the rear. The Performance models, say Dual Motor too, but have a red line under it, and also have the red brake calipers, although these could be covers from Ali-express on some rwd cars. The X has the door handles next to one another in the centre of the car and the Tesla T on the front grille.
I had no problems with suspension, find it quite comfortable. If you hit a pothole then you hear a thump but it's normal enough. The one thing of concern for me is the loud clanking noise the boot lock makes upon opening. Feels like it's catching smth. No sounds when closing though.
If you're not sure whether it's an X or a Y it's probably a Y.
Does the X still have 'Model X' on the rear?
Although most useful for size comparison, this site is very useful for X vs Y differences.
https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/compare/tesla-model-y-2021-suv-vs-tesla-model-x-2015-suv/front/
The Model Y is a largeish crossover SUV. The Model X is about the biggest passenger vehicle you can buy in Ireland. Nearly the size of a double decker bus 😁 It makes the likes of an Audi Q7 or a Volvo XC90 look like crossover superminis 🤣
Model 3 or Y has no model designation on the rear.
You May see “Dual Motor” only.
What about S and X then? Model numbers on the boot?
Yes
Fairly sure that's my review on FB you were reading. The suspension is firm, but miles better than the 2021 LR I test drove, so it's the comfort suspension. On badly surfaced roads (East wall, north wall, clontarf) it was noticably firmer than anything i'm used to. I am used to blancmange 70s Citroens on one extreme but also non-"sporty" modern cars like ID3, Seat Alhambra, Renault Scenic, etc. So maybe it's just my perception. I wasn't expecting pillow soft, but I do worry about the wear on the suspension components like bushes, arms, etc.. I'll post the review here it might help/annoy those not on FB

First impressions of Model y rwd
Collection:
Collection went very smooth, the two ladies doing a great job, remaining personable despite the highly repetitious nature of the job.
No visible flaws and 24% charge.
First drive:
Goes like a scalded cat. about the same as my id.3 off the mark and then acceleration gets stronger and stronger. Feels elastic
Ride is OK on the motorway
Autopilot outstanding on the motorway
Heavy vibration at 100-120kmph shows the wheels need to be balanced, which is a little disappointing.
First charge:
Home charging is straightforward but removing the cable before charge complete is a one handed phone faff. Imagine it’s easier with a Tesla wall connector.
Supercharging is an absolute joy. voice navigate to nearest supercharger and it preconditions the battery. plug-in and chat to the 2 other brand new model Y owners for about 15 minutes and it’s charged from 30-80%! If you’re only used to an id.3 on ESB this is like science fiction.
Second trip:
On bad surfaces the ride is too firm. Comfort suspension me arse. It’s well damped and quiet, but I suspect that it’ll get steadily crashier as the years progress and require frequent re-bushing.
I’m looking forward to a good twisty road to see if this is a result stiffening for body control or just poor design.
Summary
What a car. Even the looks have grown on me.
Nice write up. Too early to say I guess but how you finding consumption/range?
@ds20prefecture - well wear!
You need to get your wheels balanced (after you check the tyre pressures are all correct). Then take it on a test drive again and let us know what you think of the suspension then!
The less movement in suspension less the components wear I would think. The only exception would be the subframe to body mounts. But any big suspension movements mean more flex in bushings, shocks, and ball joints.
And for the charge port you need an aliexpress charge port remote for about a tenner. I only got one recently after struggling for almost 2 years.
I wouldn't be paying for that, onto Tesla to sort it if not balanced upon collection
Can’t you just press the charge port door and it opens?
Ours is not working anymore (should probably get it fixed under warranty) but the car also has to be unlocked for the push to open to work. This remote just works as long as you have your phone in the pocket.
