I think this incident just shows the lack of restraint and discipline in the Russian military. It was probably some drunk or very dumb pilot looking for bragging rights or an over zealous commander not realising the ramifications of his actions.
Completely, the focus should only be on killing as many of the Red Army as quickly as possible. That's payback for downing a drone.
Use this as a leverage to speed up supplies and Western rearmament.
Western ammunition supplies are limited, and not at levels in most countries to sustain a long term conflict.
The world will be a much more violent place in years to come as pax Americana declines, authoritarian regimes are growing in number, economic clout and ambition.

If they are consistent to what they do in the seas around China - The US should fly a massive show of force into the Black Sea... see if Russia decides to shadow them and get close enough to touch them... I think the Muscovite pilots might be washing their hair en masse during that time.

Actually, you may be right. I think the perfect comback for this would be to acknowledge the incident and say no escallation or retalliation will happen, but by the way, we have approved of the sale of some old F-18s fighter jets that Australia asked to sell to Ukraine.
The Australian 40-45 F-18s would be ideal as Ukraine can use them out of the box without having to upgrade any airfields, there is no taint of NATO to them, and they could be provided very cheaply. Australia sold 25 to Canada for $4m a piece.
Ukraine could afford to buy them, which in addition to no NATO association, would make it even less like them being given something that crosses a line. Buying them makes it something else all together. Of course Ukraine is receiving billions in aid of various kinds from Norway, Japan and the EU, so an extra $200m slipped into that pot by someone makes affording buying them a lot easier. Putin loves to play cute, well that would be a return of service with plenty of spin.

IMO, best thing for the US to do is increase support for Ukraine. Be that more or different weapons. To react in kind would allow muscovy to spin US "aggression" to the Global South. Personally I believe its down to 2 things, Xi's impending visit to Moscow and the agreement that was signed yesterday between Us, UK and Aus around the nuclear subs.

As regards the downing of the drone, Russia denied it (which means they did it). Expect to see something important to Russia go boom in the next few days.
Outside of an actual attack on NATO soil, America is not gonna get involved here. The Russians know that too, as anyone who remembered that incident in Poland a few months back (and Putin's subsequent **** of the bed) will remember. If they thought this would bring them into the war they would not have done it.
Rogue states don't respect international boundaries so how can they can do same with sovereign states it the same 3 or 4 repeat offenders because they don't fear punishment anymore.

That's exactly what Russia wants ,they are looking for escalations to drag others into the war ,they have been at this for years over the blacksea and other places with unsafe and unprofessional intercepts of American aircraft,the Iranians tired it ,the Chinese do it in the Pacific,
