Depends on the air defences where they are located, and the range of the radar,i would rather be 80km away with a JDAM or 40 km away at low altitude toss bombing with a JDAM,you are less exposed.
The glide bomb idea goes back to 1914. The ER wing kit for the JDAM was developed and manufactured in Australia.
The pull up and toss strategy for the JDAM-ER and Mig-29 combo gets quite interesting when you consider the rate of climb is 330 ms. If that's reduced to 300 ms while bomb laden, that's 50 seconds from ground level to 15km release altitude. It's ceiling is actually 18km.
Every military expert is pretty much giving the opinion that the continued Ukrainian resistance at Bakhmut is part of a strategy to fix Russian forces in place while Ukraine gathers its resources for a counter offensive. My question is that given that this concept is out there in the public, and given that it's a part of established military strategy anyway, what might Russia be doing to prepare for this possible counter offensive? Is there a plan or are they really thinking that short-term?
True,
But Ukrainans don't have long range Anti aircraft missles, but the Russians are using them in side of Ukraine so they don't seem to be too worried about being shot down, that or they have greater range than previously claimed
Looks like the Moldovan authorities are well on top of the situation. I suspect foregn intelligence services have probably been helping out considerably.
Putrid is likely fuming; Ukraine special operation not going according to plan; Georgian government not going ahead with Orcs planned foregn agents law; the plan to install an Orc favouring government in Moldova has unravelled.
Where have we seen this playbook before...
MOLDOVAN POLICE HAVE reported that they foiled a plot by groups of Russia-backed actors who were specially trained to cause mass unrest during a protest against the country’s new pro-Western government
Australian Air Force showed that a parameter of 72 km was reached when launched from an altitude of 12 km at cruising speed.
when dropped from a height of 8.2 km (27,000 ft) and a carrier speed of 0.68 Mach, the range was 120 km. With parameters of 9.1 km (30,000 ft) and 0.9 Mach – 140 km.
The range to achieve in conditions of effective enemy air defense was tested that time too. For a 610 meters (2,000 ft) release law level toss at 45 degrees and 0.82 Mach, the weapon has a maximum range in excess of 44km.
The problem is these are always ongoing operations for the Russians, when it comes to the Kremlin they don't just walk away just look at Georgia, nato and eu candidates after the attack by putin, jump 10 years later we get a pro russian government in Georgia,
It's not the first time or the last time we see things like this in other countries
I am sure they have some s300 left and Patriot and others are on their way,and no Ukraine doesnt have enough air defences covering the whole frontline and russians are taking advantage of the holes in defence i guess.
It's the first I've heard of this. Do you have any details of this? Seems like something that Stalin would try and do (with catastrophic environmental consequences).
First i heard of it too,if thats the case it wont be done in a day, thats for sure
I presume its the Volga Don canal with a maximum draft of 3,6 meters and 14 locks
Last year they made long defensive lines in Kherson (left bank), Zaporozhia, Kharkov/Luhansk (kreminna-svatovo-RU border), and existing donbas line is already heavily fortified.
That a counterattack was planned was well known, and the likely areas (kharkiv, melitopol) known also.
Very interesting. Source?
The range when dropped from 12km makes no sense as the cruising speed of an F-18 is 570kn while the speed of sound at that altitude is 573kn, so the range should be greater than when dropped from lower altitiudes.
Remember the s300 and s400 were another wanderwaffen weapons that could shoot down aircraft hundreds of miles away, not seen anything that suggests that they are reliable other than in ground attack mode
crusing altitude for an f18 is 580 knots at high altitude and 720 knots at low altitude
Depends on the radar used and if they are networked, not sure if Ukraines s300 is compatible with NATOs link 16 or have other network capabilities.
And it doesnt seem like Russia have it either, except for maybe at their home turf
I first saw it on a Telegram channel that they were connecting the caspian with the sea of Azov by dredging and that it could accommodate all vessels in the Orc fleet. Finding old posts on telegram originally written in either Orc or Ukrainian, is a bear.
Once again, source?
They wont get their largest warship trough there with only a draft of 4,5 meters
Smaller war ships maybe like corvettes might do
You actually think they are reliable in ground attack mode?
But the missiles can travel hundreads of miles if the radar has line of sight and a big enough signature. So pretty much a plane at cruising altitude could be engaged from hundreads of miles away.
Both sides are flying extremely low meaning the radar won't see the plane until it's almost on top of them. This is true with all AA systems and why data links from AWAC's are crucial. Like the one damaged in Belarus.
I don't know why you just spam wanderwaffen over and over again like it can win an argument.
Yes I do seems it's one of the primary weapons used against the Ukrainans,
Did you ever get an answer why HiMars couldn't be used two days running at all ,
What's wrong with wanderwaffen exactly,
F18
I'm not sure on that HIMARS remark, I was asking a poster why HIMARS can't drive close to the frontline, shoot and scoot and return the next day along the frontline and do the same. I was not claiming they cannot, I was asking a poster why they couldn't.
I'd say artillery is the primary weapon used against Ukraine. Just because something if fired with the greatest frequency, does not mean it's accurate. Case in point artillery.
From leading the Rose revolution in Georgia to likely death by poison while in prison on trumped up charges,
this is what Putin thinks of leaders who Cross him.
All i asked did you get an answer?
But yet the most missles hitting ukraine are s300s , seems the biggest number of available missles are air defense missles set to ground attack
thanks for telling us that putin poisons and imprisons rivals.
never would have guessed.
Now we are getting somewhere. The 1996 paper includes a nice graph, indicating the glide slope is linear and the same, independent of release altitude, so that gives a glide ratio of 15.3:1, meaning the 12km range is utter BS and would in fact be 183.6km, not 72. Released from a 14km altitude, it's range would be 214km. I don't know if a Mig 29 could drag a JDAM up to it's 18km ceiling, but if it could, that's 275km.
Given these are about half the cost of a GLSDB with far higher yields, I'd say these will soon become a favourite. A single ATACMS round costs $1m, so at $22,000 a pop you can have 45 JDAM-ER with a good fraction of their range and likely greater yield.
I'd imagine each size of bomb from 230-910 Kg needs a different wing kit.
The thing is pronudo, your comment is very ambiguous. we get lots of what are pro-Putin posts on here. But at the beginning, they appear to be anything but pro-Putin, as in:- "Putins military are guilty of war crimes. BUT" then comes several sentences of what are basically exonerating comments for Putin atrocities. Effectively pro Putin. Like your comment, which lumped all blame on both sides, while ignoring that the main and only offender in Putin. He willingly has send and is still sending thousands of Russian Soldiers to kill Ukrainians, on a daily basis. Ukraine has no choice in the matter, its a very simple issue for them, they must fight for their very lives.
The issue of mental health you brought up is a very valid one. But I can assure you that what ever the long term effects on Ukrainian's, had Russian succeeded ( or if they will succeed) will be a thousand times worse. Just think of the horror stories unfolding as the investigate areas where the Russian have held for awhile, and then been driven out of. Bucha being one of many.
For the long term mental and physical effects on the surviving Russian's, God help them. Because for sure , the cause of all their misery, Putin will not. I've met Russian soldiers who had served in Afghanistan, and many years afterwards, the mere mention of the word Afghanistan would cause then color to drain from their faces, and if they were smoking, to spit the cigarette out of their mouths.
Your most welcome,
It's nice to share these things as saves having to wikis on what happening around the world,
More posters like you ,
