The government are currently investigating increased parking, congestion charges and speed limit reductions in order to help the country meet its climate goals. Looks like a split in the coalition is emerging over the proposals, which are likely to be deeply unpopular. Do you see anything of the proposed that could be considered politically palatable?
Nope.
Most people have cars.
The rate of car ownership is 446 per 1000 inhabitants (inhabitants being people from all age groups).
Promoting cycling is great and promoting being able to bring a fold up bike on PT is even better- however the car is an integral part of the Irish transport structure and will be for years to come wether you like it or not.
I didn’t say I expect it why are you putting words in my mouth?
Did your constant need to look down on everyone with a car come with your bike or are you just this insufferable to converse with at all times?
You tried to claim that the HSE has better things to do than validate who was visiting the hospital for an appointment or other hospital business and give those people free exit from the car park. The reason you cited was they are focused on medicine.
I refuted that by stating the administration staff who handle car parking and other matters of that sort would be handling it and therefore not distracting from the medicine.
The HSE’s massive budget has been the case for a long time now it didn’t just happen 6 months ago. My point was that the HSE budget is absolutely massive, to the point where they could easily absorb the costs of running the car park (or rather paying the company who does because it’s not the HSE doing so). of course, you know it but it doesn’t fit in with being a snark in your response.
And if they wanted to they could easily take a few quid a year off their top execs salaries to cover the costs no problem. They won’t, obviously, that’s why the staff are stretched, most are leaving to work elsewhere because they won’t work for peanuts anymore.
its hilarious to read your contributions to this thread you cherry pick points and use them with this overwhelming level of snark against motorists or anyone who disagrees slightly with you on cars. You have a genuinely disgraceful style of posting on this thread and many others I’ve noticed when it comes to cars.
Can’t be bothered to engage anymore with you anyway, which I suspect is your game, snarky comments and smart arsed remarks to either get someone to give up dealing with you or call you a name so you can report them or something but either way I guess you get to feel like you stuck it to the car driver.
Also, my car is because I have an autoimmune disease and only one of my lungs works, just about. But yeah keep telling me how much of a príck I am Andrew.
You’d do well to remember, when you point your finger, there’s three pointing back at you.
You don't need to make excuses to Andrew, his views are fanatical, warped and anti-social and probably mean he doesn't get invited to many parties.
Have your car and enjoy it fella, your health issues are nobody else's business.
Did you expect the man in the hut in the car park to be able to decide whether you are a genuine visitor or not?
If only there was a 24 hour bus service to the airport;
There aren't enough drivers for the buses. DB are about 150 drivers down, GAI are about 100 drivers down. They're losing drivers because drivers can't live in Dublin, or within reach of Dublin on a bus driver's wage.
If you're going to quote a metric, it's not a great idea to quote a metric that disproves your post. By your own metric, most people don't have cars.
'I didn't say I expect it' followed shortly after with details of your specific proposals of cutting certain salaries in the HSE, not to provide additional medical staff, or beds, or diagnostic equipment - no, to provide parking for the better off visitors to hospitals.
Enjoy your car, like the man says, and pay for your storage space, or get yourself a blue badge if you meet the criteria, and get access to free parking.
So we can't attract new drivers because Diin is so expensive to live in and the solution is to add even more charges to make Dublin more expensive. Do you not see the insanity of such an approach?
Honestly would have no problem with a congestion charge if it was coupled with free public transport and a huge investment in public transport infrastructure.
The fact that the leader of the Green Party laughed off the mere suggestion of that shows was a useless shower they are.
Huge investment in PT underway thanks to the Greens
What man in the hut? - Operated by automatic equipment.
You literally know nothing about how any of this works. Its like trying to explain the internet to someone from 1850.
A 70 year old on an ebike or etrike is an easy target.
Bike will be stolen and pensioner assaulted within a fortnight
what's that, 2 routes that go to Ballyfermot or something? how many routes are there that drivers wont drive on? grown men afraid to use public transport in dublin is either some kind of mental illness or they're lying.
So you don’t even know what routes have proven dangerous but you’re happy to chastise people for their genuine concerns?
Are you trying to deny that DB has a serious anti social behaviour problem? What does it matter if someone’s a grown man or woman should they be expected to fight for Sparta cos they take the bus?
Reading your posts honestly the irony in calling people mentally ill because they’d rather not get into a fight on the bus.
You should be ashamed of yourself honestly.
what I know is there are a couple of bus routes that are dodgy. what i also know is thousands of school children and OAPs use buses every day in dublin with no problems. you and the others are using ridiculous things like bus safety as an excuse for not wanting to use public transport.
there are no grown men scared of getting on buses in dublin, the only people saying it are you and the out of towners on here who drive everywhere and wouldn't use buses either way. if you're a grown man scared to get on a bus in dublin you have some serious mental problems.
i'll be home next month and can take you for a bus ride if you like. the 15 passes by my area, comes from coolock and darndale direction, so you'll get people with tracksuits on board. i'll hold your hand if you like and protect you from the scary passengers.
I'm not sure if Ryan was laughing but his view of free public transport was based on research by EY and published the other day by the NTA...
wait you don’t even live in Ireland and you’re trying to lecture me about the public transport?
Mate you can talk to yourself you weapon 😂 Gluck
i've been away over a year and will be back soon. i've used public transport extensively in dublin most of my life.
offer is there if you want me to take you out on a couple of buses and a luas, i promise you wont be harmed.
That's at least two people you've offered to take for a ride on the Buses, this isn't Tinder you know!
I digress, no further taxes to punish motorists should be in place until PT is up there with our friends in Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, even the head of the Rail users group doesn't want more people on PT if it were free:

Just want to show you how safe public transport actually is in Dublin. I'd be way out of your league anyway.
You should tell that to your man who was out for his birthday and got his face kicked in for being gay.
Among other examples. But you live in your bubble.
Omg an incident in a city, whatever next. Stay cowering wherever it is you live then if you're afraid of cities.
interesting, so the bus is completely safe, but also it’s not?
can you pick a point and stick to it rather than flip flopping?
also if you think it’s normal to be assaulted on a bus I think it’s you that needs help.
Assaults happen in every society everywhere. Millions of passengers use public transport in Ireland every year unscathed. Just stay in your car and no one will harm you. Unbelievable...
You simply cannot make the existing public transport network better without reducing the number of vehicles on our streets. How would you propose to do this without using financial measures?
Also you want a world class type setup - how do you get to this point without distupting motorists?

Maybe you could tell this chap how safe the bus is? Or was it his own fault for daring to be gay? https://www.breakingnews.ie/amp/ireland/young-man-assaulted-in-suspected-homophobic-attack-on-dublin-bus-1351040.html
listen monk, you don’t even live in Ireland, so don’t lecture me on the the public transport right? Maybe when you’ve lived here for a few months and experienced some of this BS you can talk to me about how safe the bus is.
This lot won't use any PT until there's a Garda on every bus or carriage anyway. Wasting your time. Thankfully most people aren't as paranoid.
So you want to make any already highly taxed method of transport made even more expensive and harder to use in the hope that by 2060 we'll have a world class transport system and my family won't have to drive to the graveyard to see me??
I can't have an opinion because I've been away from Dublin for 14 months and am home in a few weeks? Pathetic argument. I used it for years as did/do my friends and family.
Again you could find incidents on public transport in any country. Most people aren't oddballs and use it anyway.
You don’t have an opinion, you’re calling people who are genuinely nervous about the anti social behaviour on DB and others mentally ill, needing therapy and more.
That’s just petty name calling from someone who can’t be told they’re wrong.
edit; even now you’re doing it! How is anyone expected to have any sort of discussion with you when all you offer are sarcastic remarks and name calling.
Honestly don’t reply to me anymore.
Are you genuinely scared to use public transport in Ireland? Would you be scared to use it in the UK?
I would be nervous to use a DB or Luas service at night especially considering the uptick in anti social behaviour, absolutely.
I don’t know much about the UK PT, what I do know is police presence is much larger in underground stations etc when I used it (once) in 2020.
I couldn’t blame anyone for refusing to use the PT services in Dublin for fear of being assaulted or worse. I definitely wouldn’t wave them off as “mentally ill”, requiring “therapy” or the likes. People have expressed genuine, documented concerns about the safety aboard Dublin bus and you have insulted, berated and derided them for doing so.
I also think I asked you not to reply to me anymore, I have absolutely no interest in discussing this topic with you because you’re a nasty individual.
Ok grand. Stay in your car. Luckily most people in Dublin and other cities of all ages and creeds aren't scared of using public transport and they're already at capacity.
There are incidents on buses in London all the time, even bombs sometimes. And you see all sorts on the tube. You'd be f*cked here as you'd have to pay congestion charges to drive everywhere rather than use scary PT.
