In fairness to the guy I don't think it was meant that way... the meaning I took is if a great man like Orsen Welles had to beg for fundraising then why not a lowly guy like himself
Comparing his predictament(needing funding) to that which Welles or any theatre maker finds themselves in. Welles did whatever it took to make his art.
fair enough but he had to pick the greatest filmaker of all time to compare his predicament to.
I think he might have been comparing it to how Welles funded himself while here (doing bad paintings in the west of Ireland, sleeping rough etc) and involved in theatre rather than film.
