I wonder how this will work out for him

This contribution is very funny given that Mr Burke was asked to be considerate of a vulnerable child and was given multiple opportunities, based on the Court of Appeal judgement I read (Whelan’s) to make constructive suggestions as to how he and the child could coexist in the school but failed to engage at all. Surely that is a more insensitive (dare I say vicious) form of cancelling. Irrespective of whether you agree with the child and its family’s approach to an issue of gender, did they really deserve this level of attention, wholly outside of their control, unlike the position of Mr Burke. Accuse people of schadenfreude all you like but sometimes it’s a valid reaction. Dare I say a human reaction as opposed to the confected reaction he and his family have pushed. There is no serious attack on their religious beliefs in accepting the child’s perspective.
Can you IMAGINE that clan in such a hotbed of homosexuality..... LMAO
He's currently on the barrister degree course in the Kings Inns and his sister is starting the course in October.
They only require a master if they intend to join the Law Library, they can still practice without joining the library and the Bar's code of conduct wouldn't apply to them then, only the LSRA regulations.
Applications to join the law library must be signed by a senior member of the library.
Getting that signature could be a challenge for them but won't preclude them from going down to the courts or getting an access card from the courts service.
Is there a solicitor firm out there who would instruct them, possibly.
There's an article in Today's Sindo about Simeon Burke. Although they didn't come out and say it explicitly, it's implied that he has been having trouble finding a barrister to take him on for that year of devilling. He was also described as being "very quiet and unassuming”. The article also has comments from Fine Gael senator/barrister Barry Ward and they're much as you'd expect. He doesn't think Simeon is an appropriate candidate for being a barrister and his behaviour at court last week did him no favours “If you are incapable of conducting yourself in an appropriate way in a courtroom you are not a person who is an appropriate candidate for membership of the Bar.” The article also says that trainee barristers have to secure a master between April 1 to June 15. Will he even be out of custody by then?
I don’t think he could be described as “quiet and unassuming” anymore. 😂
Edited to add, he’s in court on Tuesday but it’s likely he’ll continue to refuse to sign the paperwork unless the week in custody has softened his cough. Another career sabotaged unfortunately.
Is there a client who would allow their solicitor to instruct them? They couldn't be trusted not to kick off if things didn't go their own.
From what I've seen of Simeon online, he is far from quiet and unassuming. He is cut from the same cloth as Enoch and Isaac.
Remember, Enoch once described himself as "the meekest teacher in the school".
worth a read IMO
Also is it worth changing the title to something more general Boht the Burkes as a whole seeing as the thread isn’t just focusing on Enoch (and this saga is involving the entire fam anyway)
👁️ Enoch Watch 👁️
Week Ending Sunday 12 March 2023
*School closures / Public Holidays / Court Dates are excluded.
Dates to note this week:
Tuesday 14 March - Simeon Burke to appear before Cloverhill District Court. 🍿
I don't mind if anyone wants the thread title changed, but I do think it should remain centric to Enoch and his cases.
Simeon's dramatics are a side-act. He subjected the District Court judge to the same scripted speech on transgenderism, being answerable only to God, this is unlawful, yada yada yada when he refused to sign the bail bond.
He'll probably be disgusted if they just tell him off on Tuesday as a first offence, and send him on his way.
I wonder will Enoch take a day off from standing outside WHS to support baby Burke - or will Daddy drop him off at WHS and bring maybe Isaac and Ammi to the District Court?
Isaac has probably bought a new box.
Was it Isaac or Simeon who lost his shoes? Hopefully they've been located or replaced too.
I don't get why people, because of their dislike, think that Enoch is a sh1te teacher, or that Simeon would make a sh1te barrister etc. People can be ar5eholes and still be good at their job.
I've seen the videos of Enoch Burke teaching German. Very competent teacher by the looks of things. I'd have no problem sending my kids for grinds with him (if I had kids).
If I had a case that didn't involve sex, religion or gender (or anything else mentioned in the bible), I've no reason to suspect Simeon wouldn't do a good job.
Enoch teaching German, fine, but it doesn't stop there, he has to conduct himself professionally when he is interacting with the school authorities and he has proved he can't do that.
Even more so a barrister or solicitor who has to be detached from issues that arise in court and apply only the law, not their emotions.
I haven't said Enoch isn't a good teacher, but I certainly wouldn't want to be represented by a barrister who has displayed such contempt for the court, and has done so in the manner of a toddler having a tantrum.
I agree Enoch was likely a good teacher. However when it comes to how Simeon (and Ammi) might be as barristers, their actions in court clearly demonstrate that they would be shite.
If someone in the legal profession shows absolute contempt for the legal system because it doesn't align with their religious beliefs, then they have a fundamental issue which impacts their job. It's like a creationist teaching science; you can't teach the curriculum of that subject if you fundamentally disagree with it due to your own personal beliefs.
Simeon got arrested for causing a breach of the peace, including being verbally abusive to guards and refusing to follow their directions, in a courthouse, because he disagreed with the judges rulings. That's a very good reason to suspect Simeon wouldn't do a good job.
Enoch Burke has written how he and his siblings were never celebrated on their birthdays, were told that hedonistic diversions like dancing, comedy and the cinema were heathen pursuits, and that this life is very much about suffering in the name of Christ.
Full text available on Archive. Those parents (and I include Sean in that) have a lot to answer for.
What area of law could Simeon even specialise in? Family law is out because of divorce, criminal law would cause issues with his religious beliefs - murder, rape, civil law could cause moral problems if he doesn't believe his client etc.
You can probably rule him out representing someone living with their partner but not married, a single parent, a gay person, most definitely a trans person etc., so his pool of perspective client is going to be rather small.
Maybe his own siblings will require his services at some stage?
Uh would you consider a barrister who refused to accept a courts ruling to the point they get themselves arrested and charged for causing a scene, a good one?
cos I wouldn’t.
Literally this. You simply cannot be a good lawyer or barrister and at the same time hold no respect for the court. It’s like saying “ah he’s a great doctor but he just hates his patients”
I believe Ammi worked in corporate law, contracts etc?
It's interesting that in that article from 2010, it said her interest was in studying languages. I wonder why she ended up in law instead.
Foresight?
😂
Parental foresight, maybe.
If I was up in court for something minor like speeding, I wouldn't trust either of the Burke lawyers. They fly off the handle very easily.
or would they do it… speedily
Part of the job of a barrister involves being respectful to the court and its decisions. A barrister who cannot do this is not a good barrister. If he cannot find a master then he has no hope of a career at the bar.
Very good! 😁
It's such a waste that their religious idology overrules everything else. When I was at school I knew very little about my teachers at all, let alone what their thoughts on anything were. I know my French teacher seemed to fancy Robert Redford but that's about it. I don't know what my solicitor's thoughts on anything are either and that's how it should be.
He may be well versed in his subjects and good at conveying that knowledge. But he is a bad person, and I certainly wouldn't want him teaching anyone that I cared about. He thinks that the proper way of dealing with a disagreement with his boss is to verbally abuse them and physically intimidate them. He doesn't have any respect for the justice system and thinks that he can simply ignore decisions that he doesn't agree with. These failings are bad enough as a teacher. For a solicitor or a barrister? Not a chance.
Mammy Burke had a plan …
I honestly would not be surprised this was the case.
Of course it’s not entirely unheard of to have a change of career aspirations (or indeed to enjoy something but not wish to do so as a job)
I attended a co-ed catholic school more than 50 years ago - that was from junior infants up to end of secondary school.
There is absolutely no reason why national schools (primary and secondary) still separate secondary school into single sex. It’s the left over dogma from when the religious ruled the roost. IMO there is no place for religion in schools, only in a historical sense - ie how did particular religions start, etc, not teaching dogma. You want to learn your catechism, get your parish to arrange lessons - religion should be instructed by the parents/in the home, not school.
