Yeah your understanding seems accurate, that's why if Donegal get relegated this year, 2024 could be a seismic year in Donegal football. Assuming Derry/Dublin get promoted, that leaves Cork, Kildare, Meath and the other relegated Div1 team all fighting it out to play for Sam in 2024. Stick Clare into that mix and probably Cavan/Down from Div3. All decent teams that could clip our wings on the day, and we might see ourselves playing Tailteann Cup next year.
Just catching the second half vs Armagh. Have to say the ref is atrocious. Blatantly biased. Soft frees to Armagh. Feck all going donegals way.
An encouraging second half performance compared to our recent away games. Probably would have gotten something out of it with any kind of a decent ref. Gave everything to Armagh
23 frees to 8 in the end was it?
I only saw last twenty minutes. Apart from the brutal refereeing Donegal seemed to hit the brakes in the oppositions final third. Lateral passing with no penetration.
You left out Louth. Mickey Harte is waiting for youse and Tyrone😀
Limerick are probably gone, it's a toss up from the rest. Cork, Meath and Louth have 4 points, Clare and Kildare have 2.
Really poor in the first half. Our shooting was desperate.
Better in the 2nd, but, when we got close it felt like Armagh were able to pull away again.
Some poor calls by the ref alright but that's not the issue.
Getting Thompson back might help. Why bring Ward back and then take him off before half time?
For most of the 1st half tonight we looked like a Division 2 team. In the 2nd, it felt like we were at a higher level. We need to see that for 150 minutes or so over the next 2 games to have any chance of staying up now. Not the end of the world at all if we are relegated but we need to go into the Championship on the back of better performances.
oisin gallan is on thin ice now surly , he had a really poor 2nd half last week in o'donnell park , tonight was no better , he showed his limitations on one foot again tonight , even just solo on the bad foot to sell defenders the wrong way in stead of telling everyone i cant shoot off the left , he scored 1-2 last week but the 2 points were from play he kicked two short and surly another 2 wide
donegal need to prissiest with a full forward target man to give the shooter another option , it worked well enough in the first half last week , it was murphys signature in championship over the past 16 years
Not sure what the tactic was with ward, he was playing in the half forward line so was understandably lost. Perhaps he was to mark rafferty when he came out.
We need to persist with gallen as we've no other options really. We're really missing the O'Donnells to give us some depth. Hard to blame him and brennan too much when they get no ball.
As bad as we were in the first half, we could still have a decent year if we get our act together. There's not a lot between a whole lot of teams.
We don't score enough. Until that changes we are at nothing.
He has been involved in two managerial appointments in recent times, Donegal and Kildare. Neither could be regarded as a success at the moment.
Yes he is solely to blame for all the misfortunes of both counties.
Maybe you should offer your expertise for the next recruitment process.
Molloy not convinced by the CB statement
That’s a little harsh. I’m sure there are others equally culpable.
Glen Ryan over Davy Burke does look like a poor choice though.
Davy Burke has lost his last two league games.
Maybe wait until the end of the championship before handing him manager of the year.
You are very quick to defend Mick, Nix, by claiming things I never said.
I think you’ll find that Burke’s body of work with Wicklow surpasses anything Ryan achieved with Longford.
I would have thought you would be familiar with Divisions 3 and 4 as Mick appointed two former Louth managers to the Donegal position.
it takes a tough man to cook a tender chicken don't forget!
Wicklow achieved one promotion while Longford achieved two in succession. Not sure how that classes as surpassing from Burkes POV.
Both are equally good managers though in their own right. Like I said earlier, only fair to judge them at the end of the year rather now after 5 games of the league.
Lacey was asked to publicly apologise to McGeehin?
What an absolute clusterf&^k. For any county board chairman to use language like “public attack on our coaching officer by the Academy director”, “an attack on any member is an attack on us all” is simply embarrassing. This is not appropriate for someone in that role and shows a lack of leadership. To then demand that Lacey apoiogise, honestly I don't know where to begin.
embarrassing 🤦♂️
Jaysus, seems like an awful mess
Cathair seems to have a pretty good 'sources' for this article.
The same source could have saved a whole lot of this mess before stepping away from his position.
By apologising?
Lacey is not the source of that article.
I think he'd be willing to put his name to something like that.
So who is the source?
Above London. Kildare and Waterford.
Named within the article.
The only people named within the article that your comments are applicable to are Mick McGrath and Aaron Kyles.
The difficulty with your interpretation is the academy was running, and running well according to the county board statement, when they were in situ. Clearly there were issues which needed to be resolved but they manner in which things deteriorated so rapidly when McGee and McGeehin got involved doesn't augur well for the long term development of the county. If it is true that Lacey was asked to apologise to McGeehin it smacks of ego being placed in front of the greater good of the county.
It is clear from the article why the academy lost trust in the county board. The passage
"Lacey had repeatedly requested updates on what the Academy had spent throughout the year, but received no information.
He had asked if a liaison could be appointed between him and the county board to directly oversee the finances, but was refused.
As the year went on, it became increasingly difficult for Lacey to get any information as regards where they stood with the budget.
In repeated emails, he requested a breakdown of the costs in order to prepare for 2023 but never received that information prior to stepping down.
He had also never received a job specification for the Head of Academy role, despite assurances that he would."
is particularly concerning and indicative of long term issues at county board level. The poor governance structures referenced regarding the academy, and the issue of financing the academy, would appear to lie firmly at the feet of the county board.
We clearly had highly committed coaches going well beyond what would be expected of them. The fact that they resigned en masse indicates they fully trusted and believed in what they were being asked to do. Clearly the leadership in the academy was of a very high standard to get such buy in.
This debacle has done untold damage to the county. If some of the individuals involved genuinely have the best interests of the county at heart they should resign. However we have a history of individuals, who value their own importance, in positions of power making decisions in their own interests rather than the greater good. It is clear that we will be years rebuilding trust in our academy structures, something our county cannot afford.
Sometimes there are no words 🤣
