The government are currently investigating increased parking, congestion charges and speed limit reductions in order to help the country meet its climate goals. Looks like a split in the coalition is emerging over the proposals, which are likely to be deeply unpopular. Do you see anything of the proposed that could be considered politically palatable?
did you really just ask that?
https://www.thesun.ie/news/10353011/urgent-warning-motorists-shock-pictures-trucks-bus-crash/
and how do the auld dears get to the bus stop if its 5km+ away - stick 2 features up their bum? If they turned and said this year for paddys day we are going to do zoom calls instead of flying to help save the planet just imagine the exposure and the emphasis on green initiatives but no Eamo has his hongkong Cantonese dinners already on order not to mention the wine to go with it so no chance he would lead the way and initiate something like this
Well have you ever stood beside a motorway, anyone of them into the pale on a week day morning from about say 5.30am onwards. Its self explanatory I'd say.
Why don’t you do your own research?
How embarrassed were you when it was zero 24 hour routes outside Dublin three years ago?
The “one good reason” being the best medical outcomes for patients.
And you want it to be convenient to drive to, but with more children dying?
who do you think you are offering a sensible alternative.
Try again, ask a relevant question to the forum topic, but without the motorist hating undertones..
The whole NCH discussion is totally irrelevant to the topic, but you seem determined to go there.
I'll make it simple for you so, 400% extra parking charges and €10 congestion charge for parents trying to visit their sick children in a city centre hospital, yes or no?
I’ll make it simpler. The proposed increase in parking charges refers to on street parking, not private car parks like the hospital.
If the hospital is inside the congestion charge area, then yeah, it’s going to apply.
But it’s not really about hospital patients, is it? It’s about using edge cases to undermine the charge, because you can’t see any further than the end of your bonnet.
Let me educate you on two points, firstly look at the Blackrock clinic/hospital... great bus routes, cycle lanes outside and DART station nearby, yet parking demands have more than doubled with the addition of a multi-storey car park on adjacent lands.. I could go on but hopefully some of the impacts to others not like you will start to sink in about these additional taxes for driving to city centre hospitals...
On a second point and completely opposite to you, I can actually see other viewpoints from beyond the car bonnet...by bicycle, walking and the Bus(i've driven one through the city centre too)...
Typically Irish way of trying to change society behavior.
Punish and tax the behavior we want to remove instead of incentivize the behavior we want.
well public transport might be safer if they did.
AS I said, Im sure you will come up with some random option. Zoom calls. That would suggest you don't work in a business role.
If they done zoom calls the same people complaining they are flying would complain about them not flying. That's the point of some people lives, just moan about what everyone else is doing.
Fact is, St Patrick Day is hugely important, if you can't see that TD flying to represent Ireland is critical to our future then sorry I can't help explain it any further.
There are no cycle lanes at the Clinic. There are some bits of white paint on the ground.
And yes, if you build extra car parks, they will often fill up. It’s called induced demand.
Had to laugh out loud reading "It’s about using edge cases" from the same poster who used to regularly use the very small number of road accidents in this country as a stick to beat its 2.8 million drivers.
The Greens got my first preference in the last election (mainly because Cullinane was a shoe-in in Waterford).
I've never been more disgusted with a TD as I have been with O'Cathasaigh.
In the same way Eamon Gilmore buried Labour, Eamon Ryan has buried the Green Party. A tremendous shame the newer, younger members didn't oust him. We could do an actual Green Party. Good riddance to them and I'm delighted People Before Profit didn't include them in the left coalition.
The only right wing green party on earth.
Greater Dublin Area being looked after...
I stand aghast.
thats just the start
plus you will find a lot of TD outside Dublin are voted in to “build da road”. Didn’t we have a cork TD going to quit because they wouldn’t build a road
People outside Dublin reject public transport then complain they have no public transport. 🤦♂️
Have to say traffic is a bigger problem for me than a toll (congestion charge) when using a city center hospital. That and the congested locations they are in reduce means stupidly long crawling in traffic to get there. Somewhere like the Mater or Temple Street.
For me Blackrock is usually quicker get to from the M50 than driving through the city to get to it.
Congestion charge isn't going to deter anyone from that.
People outside of Dublin get poor investment from the Government across all strata of the infrastructure.
Dublin people bang on about congestion but wont move out or even support decentralisation.
The public transport in Dublin from my experience is poor. I hate the luas and dread for my life using it.
I dont think people mind Dublin having the network or the push for green transport.
Everyone would like these options afterall cars are a massive expense on families especially now with spiraling costs.
I think the Dubs and certain posters on this thread including government should respect that though there is a network and options outside the car in Dublin.
In some of the major towns in Ireland there simply isn't this option. The car is a necessary not a luxury . Busses and trains are not available people need to get to work schools etc.
So if there is a congestion tax on the motorist there should be at minimum an option for all taxpayers to get to work and school and elsewhere. End of.
An on about Government leading by example how many of the state fleet such as ambulances. Minister cars. Etc are Electric.
Is there a mandate for ministers to take public transport or cycle. I dont think so
But it's always easy to bully the soft target.
Maybe congestion tax will solve the transport issues like the MUP cured all alcoholism since introduced.
Stroll on another solution tax to go no where near fixing the problem. Typical FF/FG
When you say small number.
155 deaths and 1,292 serious injuries.
Are likely is it that major towns in Ireland would be effected by a congestion charge?
It's a Tax its FF/FG they will collect it anywhere they can. That is if history is anything to go by.
MUP and Sugar tax both stealth taxes.
What did either solve?
Congestion tax will be the same it wont suddenly put an underground tube network across Dublin will it ?
Same **** in this country if there is a problem Tax it dont fix it. Create populism around it and sit back and collect.
Still some of the lowest figures in the whole world. We should just ban cars everywhere and be done with it. And trucks too. Cyclists can deliver everything. In doing that we can make sure nobody ever dies again and we all have a smug sense of being better
Public transport is poor followed by "I hate the Luas", so public transport is not poor you just dont like to use it? which is exactly the issue with a lot of people. The car is more convenient.
What has electric cars in government got to do with anything? Ambulances??? what you want fire engines next?
You are aware that electric cars are just cars with a different type of fuel. The move to public transport is not removed iof you stick everyone into electric cars.
Why would you put a mandate on a TD to use public transport/cycle? what actual advantage is that going to provide?
As I pointed out in my post, people in countryside don't ask for public transport, they vote in people based on building roads. Then complain no public transport and rant/rave about The Green Party if they make any sort of change that might move away from cars.
Why are you saying "Typical FF/FG", as I said already no matter which party is in government they will have to introduce more public transport and less cars.
The MUP is an excellent example of people unaware of what is going on in the World, that was announced in 2018 or 2019 wasnt it? approved by all parties by the way. NOTHING. Then years after it was introduced and everyone went nuts as if they never heard of it before.
Sorry but your post is an excellent example of a normal Irish person, not that they can't use public transport. They won't. Then point at everyone else and blame them. Electric ambulances I have to admit is a new one, not a great one
Have you seen how fat Ireland is and how much fatter we are getting?
MUP was 3-4 years...very stealthy alright
By the way I am not saying to tax more. Maybe they should stop building new roads and pump all that money into public transport. But even if they did that would people move out of cars?
Yup.
Its the government and especially the greens that are the main cause of high cost of living.
They add taxes to almost everything.
if it isn't taxed yet they are thinking about what tax they can apply.
The Green's have been in government twice. Maybe explain how they managed in those two smalls periods, when the Greens was a minor partner, they have taxed everything?
Also which tax have Ireland introduced which is not in other countries?
But is it a small number was the only thing I asked? Should we aspire to worse numbers or something?
We do ban trucks from city centers and limit their delivery times.
