I've been outside for approx 2 minutes today - the time it took to collect my wheelie bin from the kerbside after it had been emptied.

Considering that transgender people are apparently less than 0.6% of the population, what are the chances Mr Burke ends up teaching in a school with a transgender person? The Burke's have made a circus out this issue but I'd be interested to know how this issue would play out in the future in an non Burke context, E.G what happens if a Boy who identifies as a girl really wants to attend Colaiste Ide down in Dingle?

I would honestly love to know the famiy's back story, they'd make a fascinating case study.
I do feel somewhat sorry for the Burke children because of the clear brainwashing and indoctrination they have experienced - they themselves would obviously disagree. But then, if we feel sorry for the kids, should we also feel sorry for the parents? Where did the parents learn their beliefs? Surely they must have also been indoctrinated into a cult of "Christian beliefs".

hilarious coupled with pathetic (as in quite sad)- they’re key-stone comics at this stage, in other words, farce. It’s obvious they want publicity, for what end I don’t know, as people are only continuing to be interested in them, for the comic value of it all - what they’re doing with the courts is just ludicrous and will serve no end. After watching the footage and seeing the delight she was taking in the proceedings I'm wondering if she doesn't just love the attention. The kids seemed to be taking it far more seriously than her. She was smiling away.

why are you stunned? The Burkes are articulate and very intelligent people, all highly educated. Just because they are becoming the laughing stock of the smug keyboard warriors who never challenge anything, who bow and scrape and sleepwalk through life accepting every new restriction and rule without question, does not mean they cannot function in their chosen routes of employment.
It says more for them and their strength than any of us, sniggering and laughing at home. I admire them hugely, even if they got thrown out of court and are being ridiculed for their beliefs. The rest of us are sheep. I wish we had far more Enoch Burkes in this country!
(I will caveat that by saying Ma Burke is mad, it all comes from her, but I admire those young offspring of hers for standing up for their beliefs. I hope they do ok in this fake and fawning world we live in)

The last thing the world needs is more people who think that the appropriate way to deal with not getting your way is to just shout until people give in. They're a family of reprobates who think that laws are for other people. If anything the fact that he can be a good teacher when he decides to be makes him worse. It isn't that they aren't capable of reacting any other way, they just choose to act the fool.

I wonder is it because people kept making allowances for them due to our collective obsession with religion? I have patients that still go to mass, talk about lovely priests etc but have a problem with the change in the curriculum. Possibly in more secular societies their roaring and shouting would have been stopped immediately, they wouldn’t have been given a voice but in Ireland, with our confusing religious attachments, we are more tolerant to ludicrous religious rankings like Edwin Poots young earth creationism and the Burkes and their evangelical nonsense. We need to grow up as a nation and stop this idolisation of religion, allow others to practice whatever they believe, but not give voice and attention to the nut jobs, don’t feed the troll.
There are no girls or anyone who identified as a girl in WHS and never was any.
