Yes, I see what you mean.

I wondered if there would be an increase in bus travel due to the parking charges for people actually visiting the centre.

But anecdotally, maybe that isnt happening.

interesting that lots of staff particularly are apprently being dropped off at the entrance by car.

this avoids the parking charge for the staff obviously, but suggests those same staff are not choosing public transport to get to work.

Generally, people are lazy. We need motivation or reward to change habits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭Bsharp

The bus fare is also seen a direct charge for many, whereas people typically don't relate the cost of filling up a car to individual trips.

So getting dropped off is 'free' when compared to parking charges or bus fare.

Equally they may not live close to one of the bus routes so it's more practical option.

It takes a long time for people to change their habits. I would have been shocked if many people traded had already their car for the bus for the occasional trip to LV. People moaned about the parking charges when they were introduced but they're relatively minor, clearly not enough to discourage most people from driving there. Over time hopefully the improved bus routes, bus frequencies and bus interchange will make public transport more attractive but not overnight.

They're badly needed on the 39/a corridor at the moment, even more VTs have been brought out of storage to cope with the passenger loads!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

What happened to the 07 VTs Donnybrook were using on the 145 and occasionally on the 46a. Are these withdrawn or in storage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭p_haugh

They're currently in storage and I doubt they'd see service in Donnybrook again. If they were to be reactivated, I'd say it would be in Phibsboro.

The Luas app has said that the Green Line is not operating this morning due to a power fault at Dundrum. Luas Green Line tickets are valid on all Dublin Bus and GAI services.

That is going to cause considerable disruption to bus services who are heading into Dublin CC this morning.

Was anyone here affected by the Luas Green Line outage this morning?

We need a proper Roads Policing unit to stop this crap, even them ANPR cameras. This would not happen anywhere else in Europe. Its a disgrace.

Is there any way to actually get enforcement to happen? It seems like people are always complaining about it but nothing is ever done. Surely it's a win-win for everyone if fines were dished out? The bus lanes would be free of traffic and the Gardaí bring in fines which will bring in more funding for them.

SG318(or 316) was in Maynooth this morning on the Moyglare road the Dublin bus branding has been removed so this is likely to be with Go Ahead now. It was out of service with several people in Hi-viz on board and headed throught Maynooth and out the Straffin road so I guess this was a route trial for the W61 ? The council also recently posted notice that is was going to install 6 stops along the Moyglare road so things seem to be moving for this service.

Is the W61 a shortened version of the W6?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 328 ✭✭DaBluBoi

Essentially, the W6 is to be split in two routes: W61 and W62, due to the width of Hazelhatch bridge not sufficient enough to accommodate two buses passing each other. This will be temporary, as plans are ongoing to widen the bridge, though don't expect the launch of the full route till next year

Government is opposed to enforcement I'd say. Gardaí Don want to do it, the nta want to to do it but government won't give them the relevant powers. TDs don't want to get letters from motoring constituents that get fined.

I don't get this saying its the bridge as its controlled by lights anyway so only one bus could use it at a time. It may be that the approaches are too narrow but I've seen lorries use it without issue. Any progress is to be welcomed when I moved to Maynooth in 2008 all the talk was about extending the 66 or 67 out the Moyglare road but it came to nothing with the recession. Now with the largest secondary school in the state out here the bus service can't come quick enough!

It’s both the approach roads and the bridge that are the problem especially if two buses were to meet, as per the NTA at the Oireachas Transport Committee before Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,300 ✭✭✭✭Zebra3

Will the two routes start/end within walking distance of each other?

    From linked article:

The W61 will operate between the Moyglare area of Maynooth and Hazelhatch station, while the W62 will run between Newcastle and Tallaght

    So no

I can't make out the fleet number from the bike camera but the reg was 172-D-22303 and the Dublin Bus name had been removed from the Operated by on the side.

Anyone know how the S2 and O will get from Rialto to Heuston? Is there a route through James' and will it run up the tram tracks to Heuston?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,086 ✭✭✭tnegun

Does anyone know has the fare structure for the W6/W61/W62 been published anywhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

They’ll be the same as any other city bus route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,086 ✭✭✭tnegun

Nice just for myself and anyone following thats €2.00 for adults, €1.00 for young adults (19-23) and students, and €0.65 for children (up to and including 18 years) right? It would mean for the school children in Maynooth the fare would be €0.65 and €1 for students heading to the University from anywhere along the route?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭p_haugh

That's for the 90 minute fare yes, the short fare (for those going ~3km on a single trip) will be €1.30 for adults, €0.65 for YA/Students and Children. That's all assuming they're using a leap card, btw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

They will be normal Dublin City bus routes, so the same fares as charged on the C3, C4, L58, and L59 etc. will apply.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

We will have to wait see until the launch for the exact final routings, but there certainly is a route through SJH - the 123 goes through the hospital grounds!

Towards Heuston, the S2 will folllow the current route 123 through St. James’ Hospital as far as Thomas Street, turning left to Bridge Street and then left onto the South Quays to Heuston.

Towards Irishtown, the S2 will leave Heuston, travel along the North Quays, turning right at Church Street Bridge and then follow the route as above.

This was the planned S2 routing for the November launch date which was pushed back and may have been tweaked since.
