Woke to falling snow just south of Kilkenny city, has turned to rain in the last 15 minutes or so and no precipitation at all as I type now.

Nice amount falling in north Clare now, sticking well too. Snow is fairly constant, going between light and semi heavy stuff.

South Wicklow, 130m asl. Was raining/mixed earlier but turned to snow the last hour and started sticking quite fast . Lugnaquilla usually in view here, whiteout for surrounding hills and mountains.

About 3 inches of snow so far in mid Clare at 150asl. Still coming down heavy. Road accidents reported everywhere. A bus has gone off the road in Lissycasey. People were simply unprepared. An Orange Alert, at least, was justified and still is considering it's snowing down to sea level in Clare.

Couldn’t stop to take a photo this morning as there was a car behind me. The mountains look the same, only difference is the sky is grey.

The car didn’t need de-icing either.

If the snow up the country is anything as heavy as the rain that's falling in cork, then enjoy it! Photos look great!! Keep them coming for us!

Left Carlow for work this morning at 7:30am, wet snow, not sticking, 2 degrees on car.

Climbed hill on M9 towards Baltitore, real white flakes, sticking to grass.

Passed Kilcullen & it was basically rain, 3 degrees on car thermometer.

Shows how localised these events can be

Very odd, still snowing away in Galway city but refusing to stick to any road or footpath, meanwhile go 50-100km south of here and you've several cm of lying snow.

Very odd that, perhaps percip intensity?

Any good reason why loads of snow is sticking in the fields/garden but the driveway and roads are like slush. Immediately turned to mush. Outside Roscommon Town.

Wet snow in Naas earlier. Not sticking because ground is too wet.

Haha that’s mad. It’s dry as a bone still along the Dartry mountains.

Heat rising from the high soil temperature beneath.

The grass insulates from this so it cools quicker

Rain was never really in the forecast for Dublin during daylight hours today (bar up a few hundred metres in the southern hills), with rain transitioning to a wintry mix later this evening with snow likely in Dublin late this evening as the wraparound occlusion moves across and winds in the Dublin area (and other east coast areas) become off-shore, which means that the warmer maritime mix is lost and colder air with lower dew points reach the city.

Been snowing since midnight. Half expecting it to transition to sleet soon.

The snow shield is at its strongest down here.

Wow, that's impressive. Was that forecast in your area by now WolfeEire, I hadn't realised if so.....

There's light snow in Longford @100m ASL, barely sticking to grass and rooves.Temperature is between 0° and 1°. Needs more intensity to overcome the warmish ground in order to stick and accumulate.

Meanwhile in Trim, the temperature was 1.4° about 45 minutes ago but there's a slow and noticeable rise in temperature, currently 1.7°. The marine influence looks to be taking hold even this far inland although it was to be expected. Precipitation is alternating regularly between light rain, light sleet and light snow........again, pretty much as forecast for this location.
