A neighbour of mine got six out of seven heifers out off knottown Roy out of Saler and Limousin heifers and cows last Spring, saw them today, they look great, should make super cows. Sold some weanlings last week, a Bivouac bull out of a Rio x Lim x He cow 400 kgs made €1420, he wasn’t anything fancy, golden yellow hair sold him. You can talk about all the breeds you want but all things considered i don’t see how anything beats the Saler cow and Ch bull and it doesn’t need to be a hard calved CH bull either.
Would a good shorthorn work well
This would be a big ch calf mart Bit of a difference
Some weight on them 2 blues for 8 months old👀 and possibly twins!
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, are they your calves?
Not mine. Fella I know of. Were sold in mart on Saturday. Nothing can touch the blue atm
Got the Bova AI catalogue in the post today. Price list with it. Beef straws still €10. Compared to Progressive/Munster prices, not bad at all.
We're with munster and if we use straws from another company it's 22 euro extra. Some dose.
If you've your own pot 8id stock up at 10euro, never be as cheap
If you buy straws at one of those auctions, how would lads usually collect/transfer them to their own tank?
Can anyone speak to the CH bull NEWHOUSE BIGAL? I see he is #2 for replacement index at high reliability yet when I go back through his breeding I don't see any stand out names to help me explain it
If you look under the 'Evaluation History' tab on ICBF, you will see the # symbol after some of the figures. That indicates that foreign data is included in the evaluation.
Ballym Rocco bull calf. Not easy… The Simmental in the mother brought more bone. Must be nearly 80kg. She didn’t even try pushing. Both doing well. Fed the calf 2 litres, and he was up and sucking by himself within 2 hours. Not what we wanted, but What’s bad could be worse!
Rocco calves seem to be massive, killers for calving, although great calves
Section last night on a teenage pregnancy. Live calf and the heifer has taken to him.
nothing for the past month and last two due in next week or so.
couple of weeks off before breeding so plan to go to Donegal for a few days
Disaster of a bull so.
Too early to judge imo but he’s a big heavy boned bull I wouldn’t be putting him on big ch and sim cows.
Chatting vet earlier, there’s allot of sections at the moment. Been put down to mild Feb and good silage. Mightn’t be just the bull, but time will tell
I was at the sale he was sold at and bought a bull that day. I made my list prior to the judging and I had knocked him off nearly straight away on calving, while his figures weren’t bad he has a very raw boned shoulder on him, a serious bull but not for the faint hearted.
The cow above was on hay the last 4 weeks, with access to a small paddock for exercise. She’d a Bud Orpheus heifer last year, no problem at all. He might be just an exception. Had a pedigree Rocco calf in Feb, calf was probably 55kg born, but cow is plenty roomy and no bother.
Yes the silage is definitely dryer this year. Cows with better milk this year too.
Thanks, how does the calf compare with Bud
Anyone have calves from the limousin bull PABO PEREDUR S3883 yet? If so what is he like for calving?
Never used him but going by his figures and breeding i think I’d have the Jack on standby. Did you put him on older cows?
Anyone know anything about the Dovea Saler bull Montesquieu??
No, I never used him. If he was easy calving enough, I'd consider it.
Rocco’s have a lot more shape and width from the go, Bud Orpheus calf was plainer but with frame, and developed shape after
Only the 1 so far Patsy, another due in June. She’s out of a Foreman cow. Lovely calm calf
Have a few Bud calves, not hard calved, plainish at birth, good growth and a nice bit of style. Not the most muscled in the bunch, but enough and sell well
Nice calf. Was she big when born?
