Any way to get recordings from Humax onto new Freesat 4K box?

I've managed to find a USB drive that allows (very slow) copying of shorter programmes off my old Humax box but I've spoken to Freesat this morning and the USB isn't connected to the hard drive on their boxes so I can't load them on it! Is there a way around this?? That's not too technical, ideally :). My only problem with the Humax really is that I get close to full memory at times and the 1TB on the freesat box would be double it.

All advice appreciated!

With all the official freesat boxes , the recordings are encrypted uniquely to each box using hardware and device serial numbers as the keycode.

Any recordings made on each box , can only ever be played on that box and that box alone , so there is no point looking for a way to transfer the recordings , they are useless on anything else but that particular box.

There is no way to transfer recordings to or from any official freesat box.

Ah, so it's the new box that's the problem?? I got the recordings off my Humax and can play the .ts files on my computer (there are two other formats as well for each programme, not sure what they are as they don't play but it would explain why copying takes such a long time!)

If you're referring to the original Foxsat HDR then only the SD programmes can be copied from the box. Any HD programmes are encrypted and will only play on the box they were recorded on.

The only exception to this is if the Nowster patch, which was widely available when the box first can out, was applied. The patch meant that HD programmes were not encrypted.

It's only SD stuff, as HD uses so much memory, I tend to avoid it anyway. I can copy programmes from Humax but apart from playing them on my computer, it looks like I can't carry anything across to a new Freesat box so it looks like I'll just have to manage the memory on the Humax carefully!

.TS is a standard video file format that many players should be able to handle.

Didn't realise BBC are moving to all HD channels, might have to just move to the new box as I have so little space left on the Humax it says only 13 hours of HD recording left. I wish I'd known you can allocate less space to music and photos, no way to do it now without losing all my recordings

No, all the recordings are encrypted and only play with an active subscription.

Back to my original query, sort of, I have installed custom firmware on my Humax, stopped any new HD files from being encrypted, added two nonHD BBC One and Two channels and am currently copying across the contents of my hard drive. When that eventually finishes (it's very slow but better than copying files onto a 8gb USB, then copying to PC and repeating for hours), I'll try copying back to the Humax and if THAT works, I'll reformat the Humax, lower the memory allowance for music and pictures and get a teeny bit more memory for programmes and then reload my original files. The ability to do any of that makes me not want to switch to the Freesat box ever - the USB drive on the Freesat box isn't connect to the HDD at all. Future plan would be to upgrade the HDD in the Humax to 1TB. But only when I absolutely have to!

That is a truly epic amount of faffing about.

The new Arris freesat boxes are unreliable junk that give endless trouble, you'd be far better off switching to an Enigma 2 box.

It's not as much faffing as I've made out, I recently found :D. I've figured out copying to and from the Humax to my PC, the custom firmware is really handy and it seems easy enough to upgrade the internal HDD when that time comes. I've had a look at the Enigma 2 box, it's Linux and beyond me!!
