I recently bought a bike. Looking at lights in a shop I noticed some do not say the lumens on the box. Is that unusual. It was well known brand.
What is a good brand? I'd be needing 600 lumens.
Why do you need 600 lumens? You should be focused(!) on lux rather as it's a much better indication of useful light.
I wish we had standard like German StVZO here, some flashing lights that I see around are very distracting. Anyways, have a look at this:

The lights I looked at had no lux or lumen to say how bright they were or what they were suitable for.

I think most of the numbers are made up anyway, so I'd be more wary of ones that do state how bright they are.
did you use the drop down? there are lights from 30euro and you can do side by side comparisons
Nah, my cateye 800 has a 200 setting and that is fine for my almost completely rural commute. Halfords homebrand will be your cheapest. Whats your budget and how long do they have to run for would be better bits of info for recommendations
As a very brief explanation, lumens refer to the amount of light output in total and lux refers to light output per metre squared.
How the beam is focused is as important if not moreso, than the lumen figure.
Halfords have Cateye 400 AMPP for 25euro at the minute which will give you 2 hours at 400lumen and 4 hours at 200lumen.
I got one on Lidl 70 lux
Seems very bright to me anyway. What would that be in lumens?

I use a Lezyne 800 lumen light when commuting unlit backroads. 400 is fine unless you're going more than 35kph then I'd want a bit more light. 800 is useful for when it's a miserable, dark rainy night. 400 would be ok though. You want a light with a good beam pattern though, no point it lighting up everything when you just need to see right in front of you.
I use it's predecessor, the Cateye Volt 400, on my commute and find it plenty bright enough on the final 2km of unlit country roads. It's bright enough that a couple of times neighbours have commented that they though I was a car approaching them with only one light working, and I get flashed sometimes by drivers if I have the light aimed too high and they're getting blinded.
I have the Cateye 800 and on its lowest setting (200) I have had people comment it is a better light than most cars they meet.
