Referee slow to take action on kerry high tackles. Missed a couple black cards and second yellow cards.

    Mattie Donnelly is some warrior.

I wasn't watching. But if you saw it in real time from where the referee was standing, would you be so sure? It's easy for pundits and supporters to use the technology to have a go. If they had to do the job of the referee, they would find that they do not have eyesight to match slow motion replays.

It was very clear in real time and his linesman was looking at it too. Tyrone player's head when back. Very sloppy tackle.

How far away were the officials from the action?

Is Westmeath beating Antrim by 31 points a mistake on my app ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,078 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

That means Westmeath practically got a score every 2 minutes. That's absolutely shocking stuff in a football match under any circumstances.

Even the most diehard Antrim fan cannot blame the referee on that one 😄

Kildare go from bad to worse. I thought they looked decent against Dublin in Croke Park on the opening night but the wheels have come off the dream team wagon of Glenn Ryan and co. in spectacular fashion. Absolute shambles.

Typical Mayo. Letting teams waltz in for goals.

A enjoyable weekend of games. Can't beat the National League.

It's gas that the Dubs have finally gone backwards and then Kildare and Meath follow suit after solid building over the last few years.

I'm actually starting to think Limerick can get the win and hopefully head down to Ennis on the front foot.

Crazy they didn’t appoint Davy Burke as manager.

Davy Burke Roscommon manger is jigging around like mad in his interview now😅

I know I'm off topic here but I can't understand how Tom Parsons had a Laochra Gael programme ahead of someone like Benny Coulter.

He was a good athletic midfielder but nothing special. Among his team mates Keith Higgins or Ciaran McDonald from a decade previous were better players. Tom wasn't better than say Tom Kelly Laois or Beano McDonald.

Is it recency bias, his injury recovery or being in the GPA? I'm looking at the ad for Anthony Molloy, who is deserving.

Ciaran Whelan Dublin, he could fade out of games but he was streets ahead of Parsons as a footballer. Tom Prendergast Laois, 70s and 80s. Tony McManus Roscommon.

I'm getting it all off my chest today!!

Looks like Cork have a nice team coming along. Every decade or so they seem to get a strong team that can challenge for an All Ireland. Early days but they are after putting 11 goals past Dublin (2), Limerick (6) and 3 in Ennis today.

I don't know who has or hasn't had Laochra programmes and don't care about it but perhaps some of the players you mention were asked and didn't want to go ahead with it.

That might be as much about the teams they were playing against.

Nice fella, but take the injury story out of it and the GPA story he wouldn't be on Laochra Gael as a footballer in his own right. The Mayo support is very strong and I guess they needed to produce a programme from Mayo. Theres no all Ireland winning story which normally caps off these programmes, unfortunately it's generally one of anguish and heartache as described in the book "house of pain" about Mayo football. They needed to produce a programme and given the material available they actually made the best they could of it imo.

They are likely picking him for the interesting/unusual story rather than picking the best player technically

Wasn't that unbelieveable. There were parts of that game yesterday where Tyrone had a 3 man tackle going on, especially on Clifford. Belting away at him. Then ref gives a free out. Refs love giving that free out - whereby the crowd shout their dissatisfaction at the player who is surrounded - for holding on to the ball too long. Ref gives him couple of seconds to get rid of the ball, even though it looks like he has swarmed by an octopus, with all the hands pawing at him. Ref blows for free out. Fist pumps all round by the defenders. And the crowd roar in approval. It's not the biggest problem issue in GAA football, but I think it is something that should be addressed. As far as I know, the rules is that a tackle is aimed at the ball, not the player. That is not the case with these swarming "tackles".

There was an incident in the Galway game where it was Galway that were doing the swarming. I think there were 3 of them effectively shielding the Monaghan guy on the ground so that he had no escape. Sean Kelly jumped on top of him, to make sure that he was definitely going nowhere. And then the inevitable referee whistle sounds.

In those scenarios, defenders can do what they want. Once they have surrounded a guy, they can punch, elbow etc. and it is guaranteeed that the ref will still give a free against the forward.

Glen Ryan hasn't a fcuking notion of what he's doing players not playing for him tactical work practically non existent talk of a mass exodus to America if/when Tailteann cup is confirmed an absolute basket case at the moment.

Oh God that still haunts me to this day that Meath **** Cormac Reilly I'll never forgive him it was the semi final 2011.

Kildare are in a bad place alright which is odd because on paper, they have some top players and they did okay last year, probably should have beaten Mayo in that qualifier match. They're away to Limerick in the next round and I don't think I'd put much money on them winning that one.

Will be an unusually big crowd too because it's a double header.

Kildare and Wexford fans should also be aware that Limerick have a 2nd Paddy's Day parade that Sunday. So there will be traffic and parking restrictions in the city centre.

Why in God’s name is Armagh v Galway in Div 1 on at the same time as the rugby this afternoon? Is this another example of ‘f**k any other sport, we don’t care’ attitude of the GAA or what? They should have moved it to 7.30pm to accommodate people who wanted to see both games.
