I wonder how this will work out for him

Never served in the military myself obviously, but I do enjoy a good war film/book/documentary. Surprising how many officers seem to lead their troops over the top, for God and country. Isn’t that the US marine motto “For God Corp Country”?
No. It's Semper Fidelis.
My experience with evangelical christians is that as a whole they are very devoted to the concept of the ends justifying the means. That they will happily lie, cheat, and steal if it gets them what they want. The evangelical churches that I've been to very much push the idea that if you are doing "god's work" then anything you do towards that goal is justified.
I've also gotten a lot of death threats due to me not being religious from evangelicals. Plus the ones that enjoy telling me in excruciating detail how much they look forward watching from heaven while I'm being tortured for eternity in hell.
Damn you Kiefer Sutherland
A lot of death threats, how do they know who you are?
I live in the UK and, frankly, there’s virtually bugger all coverage of Enoch, except to focus on the weirdness of it.
He's not only embarrassing himself but the whole country.
Get a grip, he isn’t embarrassing the country. He’s one man standing alone making an eejit of himself. If anything the embarrassing part is how invested some have become in this story.
replace evangelical with trans and this place erupts.
These were IRL interactions.
On the “embarrassment for the country’s” spectrum, I suspect Enoch’s weighing more heavily on Loueze’s side, frankly. He’s lumped in with the Westboro Baptist Church gang (and yes, I know, the WBC has “disavowed” him, ok?) as far as the few interested Brits are concerned
Crikey, are they going around threatening to kill non believers, should we be worried?
Well, they haven't disavowed him. They've publicly stated that they agree with his anti-trans stance. They just think he is going about things wrong. Even they think that ignoring the courts is a bad idea.
There is a reason I don't live in Oklahoma anymore. Well, actually a lot of them.
I MUCH prefer Ireland.
Only if the gun laws change in Ireland to mirror the unreal addiction that the US has with firearms. Actually, I’m surprised you can’t pop into Walmart and pop a M142 Himars into your trolley.
(May be available in some states!)
I happen to think pretty much the opposite. Those of an evangelical persuasion are imo absolutely dishonest. They point blank refuse to accept scientific and archaeological facts and persist with a childlike view of creation and an afterlife. Add in the fact that they squeeze every last cent from their followers accross the bible belt.
Careful, there are some scientists who don’t actually believe an immaculate conception is possible.
Of course he is an embarrassment to this country.
The same way plenty of Americans are embarrassed by Trump.
Weren't there some questions asked around the use of some society funds in NUIG back in the day?
Maybe someone could do a meme of Trump standing outside the white house with a shoulder bag.
Unit, Corps, God, Country
He kind of did. Sans the shoulder bag.
Where was this out of curiosity, in Ireland or the States?
Eh, Trump is a former President, Burke is an unemployed teacher, you have gone far to deep into this, and lost your perspective if you think those two are comparable in terms of exposure and how they are perceived inside/outside their respective countries.
In the US. Since I've been living in Ireland the closest anyone has come to bringing up religion with me in any context is when I was getting my son into a primary school. They mentioned that it was a Catholic school, but that he wouldn't be required to go to religion classes if we didn't want him to. In a lot of parts of the US one of the first questions a lot of people ask is what church you go to. Though that's generally after they've asked what you do for a living. Since I've been here no one has asked me either question.
I've felt a lot more religious freedom here in Ireland than I ever felt in the US.
Eunuch is a pain in the hole at this stage. They made their point and should just move on.

It wasn't I who first made a comparison to Trump or who started a debate with other posters about him on this thread. Sooo..
There is no reason why any country should be embarrassed by the presence of outliers with different beliefs in their society.
However embarrassment may arise if the country fails to deal with them in a fair and equitable manner.
But you did say;
"Of course he is an embarrassment to this country.
The same way plenty of Americans are embarrassed by Trump."
"embarrassment to this country."
implies it is international news, it is not.
