That poster was referring to personal items though - yes, a house needs to look lived in, but anything that ties it to the sellers (photos, memorabilia, highly personal stuff, or stuff of highly personal taste) can make it hard for potential buyers to visualise themselves in it, or so the theory goes anyway.
Declutter, declutter, and then declutter some more. Makes the spaces look bigger apart from anything else!
I'm not talking about furniture, just knick knacks. You don't need 500 framed photos of family on every available surface. 10 china tea sets in cabinets etc.
Yes absolutely have beds in bedrooms, and other furniture in the appropriate rooms.
Great size site. You could do so much with it.
You’d want to rip out the attempted conversion and start again. It looks like so many Lockdown camper van conversions that come up on DoneDeal. ‘I did it myself during lockdown.’ No sh1t Sherlock.
The plastic windows would have to go too.
Those windows are the worse I've seen in a long time!
And that conversion attempt is tragic. Strip it all back out again, get someone with a bit of knowledge and taste to design an interior (and maybe an extension, I forgot to look at the sq ft but it looks tiny), and that would be a gorgeous home.
My back of a napkin design.
Those openings let in great light so I’d use the original building as the living/kitchen/dining area. Also, I think a library is must given the history.
New extension to the rear with a modern bathroom, utility and bedrooms. I’d put the parking to rear, maybe a garage/log store to create a mini courtyard, depending on the light.
Landscape with native trees and plants and restore the stone walls on the road.
I'd buy that!
The windows are definitely one of the best features in the building - to fill them with (ugly) plastic frames and then split them with a floor (I've seen that in a few church conversions and it never works IMO) is just mad.
Sure, but that should be the way anyway IMO
😀
Peaceful and private...
At least they had the courage of their convictions 😂

I wouldn’t change a thing.
Reminds me of a windows 95 maze screensaver

So, on top of the 89k, how much for a total good job renovation ? 200k ?
That screensaver is an abomination...I always rather enjoyed the pipes though. As for the house, someone enjoyed that house, you can't help kinda liking it, even as you'd tear out every bit of it.
Weird setup outside the house too. Your garden if you would call it that is past the road. You would also want to be friendly with the neighbours if you enjoy sitting out in the sun as you have ZER0 privacy as they would be sitting out beside you as well if they like to do that too.
They are still living there. it is still their home and who knows when - or if- it will sell? And a home is not "neutral"..They could still be there many years.
Well it is highly unlikely to sell when it looks like a bric-a-brac store. Too much clutter detracts from the place.
It is a home not a showhouse. Grand to see it lived in as such
It would be interesting to see how many people actually go to view it.
I know from buying my first house I wouldn't have bothered viewing a house that looked like it needed a jcb to clear it out.
A house can look loved and lived in and still be clutter free.
When selling a house you have to adopt the mindset that this is no longer my home (as I'm ready to move on) but an asset. The biggest asset I own and I want to get the best price possible for it. To do that you need to present it in the best possible light.
There's a few houses for sale on that road and I'd say it will be the last to sell and and the lowest price.
It's a shame that the furniture was removed.
I do like it though.
You are going to be moving, now is the time to pack away all the excess stuff, its going to have to be packed at some stage. Certainly I would not redecorate to sell, but showing off the size and shape of the rooms is a good idea. Most people are not very imaginative, they see a room full of clutter and immediately they don't want clutter so they don't want the house. You are often selling a lifestyle, which is why its a good idea to sell in May or June when everything looks fresh and any garden is looking its best.
Edit - though of course trying to persuade someone that their religious stuff is a very personal choice and might put other people off would be an uphill battle. A buyer would have to be able to look past the manky kitchen and bathroom, so a clutter of religious iconography would just mentally go into the (several) skips.
That is impressive and surprising, wow!
If you're selling, you are showing your house, not your home. It's for the buyer to turn your house into their home.
€350k 🤢
Site for sale, central Dublin. Will need to be cleared.
Yep, pack away all unnecessary clutter and keep the house spotlessly clean.
No one wants to see your personal taste in ornaments, clutter everywhere, your knickers drying on the clothes horse or any visible dirt.
Estate agents will say this to sellers and will recommend any touch ups where needed. You want to get the best price possible, not showcase your personality.
For €650k it's going cheap but you'd probably spent at least tens times that doing it up. It might do as a hotel or a place for refugees.
Escape to the chateau is what this reminds me of.
It would be nice for a wedding venue if you didn't want to do hotel full time.
Heating bills I'd say are eye watering.
That place in Claremorris used to be owned by nuns and it was a nursing home. Some one bought it around celtic tiger era after the nursing home closed down. And the price they are looking for I'd say the guy that bought it off the nuns lost a lot of money.
Another strange thing is the main entrance is not included with the sale according to the map and you can only access it from the side entrance.
The renovation could cost another €350k, so €700k for a 52m²? Bargain!
It is in Portobello, I believe Leo and the husband bought a house there last year. An up and coming area where you can rub shoulders with the political elite :-)
