Fall of Civilisations is excellent. Really well researched and narrated. It tells the story of a different civilisation in each episode and goes onto their way of life etc and their eventual demise. I had forgotten about it for months but back into it now again and I'm really enjoying it.

Episodes can be quite lengthy if that is the one I'm thinking of but he does sustain interest.
Same is true of a lot of History of Rock in 500 Songs though it started as about 1/2 hour episodes then seems to be 2 or 3 hours where teh presenter really sets the scene. Including what appear to be major diversions but turn out to be really educational background.
Katy Lister's podcast Betwixt The Sheets is normally great fun and very informative but is mainly on somewhat bawdy topics. Her books are pretty good too.
The Alexei Sayle Show is quite good, have it on at the moment.
Oh Brother the Hanley Brothers podcast on life in The Fall where they interview ex-members and major fans.
We're Not So Different where 2 American leftists talk about history , mainly Medieval so far though I think they have got outside of that .

I think it started with a series by Dan Snow whose father is a very well known reporter with channel 4. I think Dan is well known in his own right too.

Not sure if it was mentioned before but Tunnel 29 (BBC Intrigue) is great. It’s the true story of an escape to the west via a tunnel dug by a group of students under the Berlin Wall. There’s maybe 8/9 episodes. Excellent podcast.

Listening to Andy Dawson Athletico Mince, which is great (although you need to listen from the start, because running jokes and references are evolved over time), led me to Top Flight Time Machine, which is just Andy Dawson and Sam Delaney bantering between themselves, and is absolutely the funniest podcast ever. Sam Delaney is sooo funny.
