I would think there has been plenty of time to booby trap the hell out of Bakhmut, and as the the Ukrainian intel and military planning is far better than Russia's, I would not be surprised if it remains a killing zone for some time yet.

The question of the Marine tanks is solved, they're already spoken for. They're the rush delivery to Poland of the M1A1FEPs (Marine equivalent of the M1A1SA) to fill in the gap between the donation of older Polish tanks to Ukraine and the arrival of sufficient M1A2s and K2s. The first ones are arriving now, and coincidentally, the Abrams tankers currently in training are coming from the PT91s, which have recently been announced as transfers from Poland to Ukraine.
