I walked past a few days ago and there was a lot of activity around it so I'm guessing they are working away on the inside

Nice chunk of change going to greenways around Athlone though most (5 million) is going towards the cost of the new bridge

Lough Ree greenway sounds promising...although i'd imagine it will be at best bollards and at worst painted lines on the hard shoulders of the N55 and N61

If won't qualify for greenway funding if thats the case, more likely NCN type funding and they haven't really done much on that because its a terrible type of infrastructure which gets very little usage

    Hey folks

Is there any vending machines in or near Athlone that sell free range eggs?

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Any idea where to get a car dent fixed? It's only a tennis ball size one but it's pissing me off.

One place said it would need resprayed and would cost 650 euro please, I think he was trying to get rid of me.

    Thank you

Does anyone know what the story is with the two horses behind tesco express in Baylough?

They're in a field (if you can call it that) and they seem to be very hungry.

Anytime I'm at tesco, they're up at the gate & one of them especially seems very agitated, looking for food constantly it seems.

Call westmeath SPCA +353 86 638 3730 and report. Or call the guards. Shocking what lads do with animals.

Remember there was traveller's keeping horses and pony's on NAMA land in Monksland when i lived there. One day they broke into our estate for the lush green grass. The guards were called, we called up to traveller family. The residents and guards herded them back into the field and temporarily fixed up the fence. The travellers disowned the horses to the guards, but they moved them that night before state animals welfare crowd could arrive next day.

Most places charge €1000 for small repairs & respray on rear quater panel.

And they have any amount of work

PS: one piece of advice, never let anyone cheap work on paintwork.

    I'm speaking from experience 🙂

    Try here - https://denis-auto-repairs-ltd.business.site/

Was the cheapest I found after a look in Athlone for a repair. Done and excellent job panel beating and respray the repair.

I am by no means an expert, but from what i know, if the metal isnt creased or torn, the dent should pull out. Goin by the picture, it looks like it should pull out out easy enough, no body or paint needed.

I was in Jimmys superstore last week and a saw a dent removal kit (basically a big plunger) in the car section, was only a few quid. Might be worth trying that before goin to body repair shop.

I would agree with that, may need the bumper trim removing first though.

They have been out surveying the land / bog in Cornafulla a lot lately so I preume this is the preffered route for the cycleway. There is one landowner out there though that said he won't allow it to go through his bog. Always one trying to halt progress.

I've used Dentastic before and he was excellent - came to my house at the time. PM me if you want his number

The new gym opens today, House Fitness Athlone. I called in yesterday to take a look, it's really well equipped. Best equipped gym in Athlone now for weight training.

Laughable that we don't do a parade on the actual day.

Every kip in ireland shown on the news.

And no they won't show ours on Sunday either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,128 ✭✭✭rn

I assume we're reusing floats from Dublin parade like last year. In fairness last year was very successful. I'd rather be at a decent parade than see 10 seconds on the 6-1 news.

In fairness we've had the same for the M6 and the gas pipeline and both were over come. One or two people can't halt progress. They might slow it down for a year, but they'll be over come.

If its such a great idea then why don't other towns do it

Anyone care to recommend a local lad to do some gardening for a lad whose garden (esp. lawn) has got away from him? What's a fair rate for such work for a good worker these days?

Has Central Autoparts closed down? I went to it yesterday and it was closed

Might just have been a Paddy's weekend hangover.

    This too shall pass.

Bike rental scheme is getting extended but might be a different operator depending on who gets the tender

The Athlone to Galway greenway route has been chosen, but not released yet

The article gives details on the route immediately around Athlone which was discussed here a while back

The general trajectory of the route as it leaves Athlone is known, however. It will cross the new greenway bridge over the Shannon, the cycleway before skirting along the river side of Athlone Castle as far as the Big Meadow.

It will then cross the Shannon Callows on top of the recently constructed flood defences before travelling south west of the existing Clonown Road, close to Cornafulla and Johnstown, and onto Shannonbridge.

Looks like it'll be of zero use for commuters on the West side of Athlone

Crapp for going towards Galway and crapp for locals. Very poor planning, do the crusties that blocked the more direct route really hold that much weight forcing us to follow the bog/river
