Are Lidl doing compost and grow bags this year does anyone know?

Had great luck with their €2 grow bags with my tomatoes last year. Haven’t seen any in my local Lidls and seems like it’s the time of year they should be out by now

Just bought a Spear & Jackson cordless mower from Argos. 40 cm cut with 2 batteries & charger €125.

That's way cheaper than Lidl & it has good reviews

Maybe similar to Dyson. Although products are sold through Irish retailers, repairs and warranties are dealt with directly from the UK. You log the fault issue and they either send you the part or a full replacement. No return of broken product required.

Alternatively, they may emp;oy an Irish agent to deal with warranty repairs

I had a good look through them earlier and bought 2.

some are grafted and some are not.

I guess they graft them to smaller rootstock? Any one know about more about the reasons for grafting ?

Growing Japanese maple cultivars from seed is difficult since the tree’s flowers openly pollinate, this means that they accept pollen from most other maples in the area. Given this, you can never be certain that the resulting seedling will have the same looks and qualities as the desired cultivar.

They show lots of variation when grown from seeds. These are all from the same tree. That being said you can get lucky and have a seedling with unique properties. New commercial varieties often have been propagated from unusual seedlings and grafted onto a standard common green Acer understock which give the new variety a better root system on which to survive.

I got some in previous years and they turned out fine. Can't help with when they will be doing them this year and think there have been some years when they simply have not done them as the cheap bare root selection that I have seen in most years.

I bought a bundle of hazel slips that were being sold off for half nothing and they did extremely well. I have also bought Japanese Acers which did well. At another stage I bought a plum and an apple tree, and my daughter bought some raspberries and all were a waste of time, the trees and the raspberries grew but not into anything I would bother giving any more time to, all have been dug up. Previous experience has been consistent with this. Bog standard plants and trees that were only intended to fill space tend to be ok, otherwise spend a bit more and get something worth buying.

I’m wondering when to get perennial plugs at their cheapest in the garden centre? Specifically the likes of verbena bon, salvia, echinacea etc. or are they even available in that size?

I don’t have space for sowing seed at the moment so I would like to have ones started already. Thanks.

Not sure if it would suit what you need, but you could have a look in your nearest Lidl for perennial root cuttings, should be some left or there are plenty in my local ones

A lot of Astilbe, Achillea, Aquilegia, Eryngium, Hosta, Phlox, Iris, Centauria, Liatris and i forget what else, they were 1.49 I think

Thanks, not sure how I missed that. I've noticed all the trade ads up on Adverts and DD for new green houses have blurred or smoked glass. Any idea why all the new ones come with that type of glass? Personally I want to see clearly whats growing in there from outside. Not into this glass type.

The plants down need direct light which will burn them. Clouded glass prevents that happening

I've been in the large glasshouses in the Teagasc research and training centre in Ashtown, impressive setup but none have clouded glass. All clear
