I am sure how could the under age talent coming through in Cork is. They did win two under 20s in a row but Limerick, took them down to the wire both years and beat them well last year. The 'great' Limerick U21 team long ago won three in a row, but they were nearly always being put to the pin of their collars by Cork and Tipp especially and they won nothing after at Senior Level.
I think i addressed this point with you before. That Limerick three in a row u21 team of the early 00's, were expected to have a similar amount of success at senior level. However a combination of the players believing in their own hype and the drink, led to those players not having the same success at senior level.
There's no prizes handed out for nearly winning, so you saying to me that Limerick nearly did this and nearly did that just doesn't cut the mustard with me at all. Obviously doing it at senior level is another story entirely but winning all Irelands at underage, does give you a platform to build a team that can win all Irelands at senior level imo.
Comfortable win today for the Camogie players over Clare in the league
The Cork Senior Football team to play Limerick in Division 2 Round 4 of the Allianz Football League has been announced
Cork 2-11 Westmeath 0-10 halftime. goals from Shane Kingston and Shane Barrett.
Cork with a huge win over Donegal in the ladies football, 5- 11 to 0-1
2-11 v 0-10 up at ht v Westmeath Barrett and Kingston with the goals.
Nice win in the end
Cork 3-7 Limerick 0-5 after 32 min. goals from Ian Maguire, Colm O'Callaghan and Sean Powter
4-7 to 0-6 HT. 4th goal from Brian Hurley
6-18 to 0-12 FT. Conor Corbett with the final 2 goals
Delighted the footballers blew them away, Performances like this and last week will certainly boost their confidence.
6 pts over a v poor side is hardly a good win.
'Much changed Cork side' it should be remembered.
And a good chance of those players to make a mark. Just shows alot a these players ain't going to be good enough come championship
If we lost then it would be worrying but we didn't.
Patrick Horgan, Alan Connolly, Mark Coleman, Seán O’Donoghue, Seán Twomey, Darragh Fitzgibbon, Tim O’Mahony, Séamus Harnedy were all not playing today. Sean O’Leary Hayes was injured just before the game started.
Ethan Twomey and Ben Cunningham were making their league debuts. Twomey helped set up one goal. Power getting his second game as sub and got 2 points.
Another win and another 2 goals scored. Westmeath goalkeeper is supposed to have made good saves to stop at least 2 more, Great to see us hitting the net regularly.
A nice spread of scorers. New players getting at least a point. Seems a good day to me.
Scorers for Cork: S Kingston 1-7 (0-6f), S Barrett 1-2, C Cahalane 0-3, B Hayes, P Power 0-2 each, C O’Brien, E Twomey, C Cormack, T O’Connell, B Cunningham 0-1 each.
It actually doesn't show that at all. Above is a more accurate view on today I think.
Really good feeling about the footballers at the moment. Big test next week vs Clare in Ennis.
It wasn't a full strength Cork team. As for the football it was nice to win so comfortably and score six goals in the process. Limerick are a poor team but you can only beat what's put in front of you.
If we hammered Westmeath then the likes of yourself would be saying ah sure it's only Westmeath. There's no pleasing some people in that situation. The main thing is that the job is done and the points are on the board.
fantistic inside forward line to be fair
Shane Kingston will be in the Eir store on Patrick's Street tomorrow March 1st at 4pm to sign jerseys and take pictures
Wouldn't write anyone off based on a few league games but anyone expecting6 or 7 young lads to go from u20 to senior without any issues is dreaming imo. I'd think we'll see 2 or 3 debutants come championship at most.
To give an update on the hurlers and where the players are with injuries and returns....
Alan Connolly is back rehabbing with his club
Mark Coleman not even running yet
Sean O’Donoghue has a quad injury that came from having a dead leg. Should miss next game but be OK after
Patrick Horgan twisted an ankle in training so he is out for 2-3 weeks
Robbie O’Flynn supposed to be doing well in recovery
Darragh Fitzgibbon is meant to be back training fully this week
Tim O’Mahony back training this week also
Alan Cadogan is training away and hoping to get a half with his club and then returning to the Cork set up
Ger Millerick was taken off at half time against Westmeath with a tight hamstring. Not meant to be too serious.
In other news that isn't so good, Ben O'Connor is meant to be going off doing rugby. Not totally definite yet but looking like that.
On the Footballers update....
We need to wrap Brian Hurley in cotton wool! He went off at half time with a shoulder injury but not meant to be serious
Brian O’Driscoll has a hamstring injury but should recover after a week
Sadly Cathail O’Mahony has a hamstring injury and gone for the rest of the league. Probably needs surgery but not confirmed yet. Very tough on him as he has had a lot of injuries.
Half time in the football and we are down by a point. A low scoring affair so far.
Clare: 1-4 Cork: 1-3
Cork 2-7 Clare 1-6 after 20 min of 2nd half. Mattie Taylor with our 2nd goal
Third goal now from Sean Powter! Get in!
Powter is result enjoying himself.
Cork banging in the goals this year!
Great win for the footballers. Ennis is a tough place to go
Clare 1-8 Cork 3-10
13 goals for Cork in last four league games having only scored 6 in entire 2022 league campaign.
Brian Hurley missed a penalty as well today
That's an outstanding win in Ennis
