Electric and Halo are the only vacant venues I can think of in the city centre so maybe there?

Churros and Coffee has closed at the end of Shop St. That unit is an absolute death knell to any business idea.

Yes, how awful, What would you have liked to move into this small unit? I had hoped for another independent café or vintage sweets/Aran jumper shop. Or another non-franchise ice cream shop selling tiny scoops for a fiver. Not enough of those around.
Galway needs more of everything, including chains. Shop St. should be expected to be mostly big names given the premium location. But it's still half rundown and in need of a lot more investment.
No issue with them opening but just to point out we can now have overpriced, average donuts instead of the overpriced ice cream scoops that were originally due to go in there.
Yea, I thought it was going to be scrum diddlys.... Pity. I thought they were fairly reasonable tbh in comparison to the others.
My point is that there's always this snobbery around chains. Most of the new small shops/eateries opening these days are more of the same, does it automatically make it better if it's not a franchise or an Irish franchise?
I haven't had a Krispy Kreme in years, so I can't comment on their quality. I don't eat many donuts. Most donuts in Ireland aren't nice anyway, they're often just bready and dense (and don't get me started on the quadruple chocolate glaze/frosting/ganache with sprinkles and four different chocolate bars and jellies that they all seem to come with these days).
It's not like a good (and big!!!) clothing retailer with an adequate menswear department could have have gone into the unit, which is something Galway really needs IMO.

I think start up pop up shops are great to see on high streets. Now you might have anecdotal opinions on the quality, but Dough Bros pizza started as a van, then a pop up on Abbeygate Street before their current home on Middle Street plus a new warehouse for their home pizza kits.
Gym+Coffee is another example of Irish company done good, so the more Irish companies on Shop Street, the better.
Speaking of chains being not all bad, whatever happened with Galway getting a Nandos?
Nothing. No harm either. Never understand the fascination with places doing bang average food when we have lots of places that do excellent food. It's odd.
