Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any idea where the HD "Wild Earth", the live feed from various game reserves in South Africia has gone? Was on Astra 2A 11171 H 22000. Showing good signal strenght.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,386 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

From the Flysat satellite news 16 February.

    17:55 CET WildEarth TV ( 11171 H ) left Astra 2G @ 28.2° E

The signal is still there and the channel name 51118 still scans, but No Audio Video message.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Bit of a strange one this. I'm fairly sure it was still there earlier in the week. However it seems odd that they were testing for 2 months solid without launching. I first spotted it on 12th Dec.

No mention on their website https://wildearth.tv/channel/

It is still available on Rakuten TV if you have a suitable device.

Probably been answered before but just want to check if it's possible to tune in Channel 5 like we can with the ITV/UTVs?

    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

    The Channel 5 suite of channels is on 11307 H 27500 2/3 QPSK DVB-S

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,639 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

If memory serves these channels may be tagged as subscription channels, in which case a FTA scan of the frequency/transponder may not store them. In this case do an "all channel" scan which will store the subscription channels too.

Nope, manual addition via Add Channels.

    10773H, 8PSK, 23000, 3/4.

I take it you mean cheap FTA boxes as a good FTA box can have bouquets set to autoupdate like sky and no problems for youn old techy or non techy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,476 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

I have two Humax Foxsat-HDRs with the modified software, they're just the business - "just work" - never any hassle and non-techy spouse friendly - stream recordings to any device in the house. I got the second one cheap on eBay a few years ago, I should probably grab another as a spare before they become collector's items 😉

    Scrap the cap!

So tell me where a plug and play fta box with 7 day epg for Irish and UK channels can be bought, that an elderly or non techy person doesn't have to download epgs and skins etc , so as to make a fta box look similar to a Sky box. For years I've asked how come somebody isn't making these for the Irish Market and selling them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,539 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The Irish market is too small to make it worthwhile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,476 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

and let's face it, there's shag-all worth watching on the Irish channels anyway 😕

    Scrap the cap!

OK followup question, I am trying tio reach Advanced level 😁:

Lots of channels have a +1 hour 2nd channel or a SD + HD variant of the same channel.

Is there a hack to tell the EPG software to use the data from another channnel for the EPG display?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,557 ✭✭✭swoofer

er can you explain a bit further with examples????? And can you say box and image you are using? I am intrigued as at the moment I am tinkering with a box from scratch and setting up bits like epg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Wcool

Well an example would be the channel GREAT! Movies

I have EPG for GREAT! Movies, but not for GREAT! Movies +1.

Is there a way to use the feed for GREAT! Movies for +1 as well?

Same for DRAMA, GREAT! tv and YESTERDAY

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Wcool

Sorry forgot: OpenATV 6.4 with zgemma H7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

You should have EPG data for all channels inc Great movies +1 if you use crossEPG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,557 ✭✭✭swoofer

now that is a good example. I have a zgemma h7s setup and it did not have great movies so I added them and got all the epg's. This is with openatv 6.4 and using a kiddac skin. And I use crossepg with openepg ticked. here is a pic.

But try this first go to great movies + and then arrow up and then press red button, you may find another list for great movie + select it and then press epg. Next bit is to move that to your movies bouquet.

But you need to say what way you have set up your epg. I have just got another Zh7 from Germany and started configuring with basic epg and as yet cant make it download manually. Its 6.4 as well but I will add a lot of bits as I go along.

Have you had the box long?

I have to go out for a bit.

    MENU>SETUP>EPG>CROSSEPG>

Make sure Sky UK is ticked and save the settings.

This is on Vix but ATV should be similar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Wcool

I didn't have CrossEPG but found it in the plugins. I downloaded it (it crashed a few times but after reboot all ok). I will set it up later this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Wcool

2 years zgemma but OpenATV for god knows how long, at least 10 years. It seems not having CrossEPG was the problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,557 ✭✭✭swoofer

A hard reboot sorts crossepg. I do autobouquets first then run cross. You may know this but a tip is to save epg to a usb. And never to internal flash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Wcool

Great CrossEPG solved my issues, thank you very much!

Im acutely aware that there’s a bit of frustration that this thread has been hijacked by the BBC HD discussion. There are 166 posts to be split off and I’ll look at doing this later on a larger screen device.

But not on a Satellite receiver, which is what this Forum is for. Saying something is on your PC can mislead people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,031 ✭✭✭✭Johnboy1951

    Really?

You accuse me of misleading people? I find your post unacceptable.

Please quote my words where I misled people, else withdraw your accusation.

If anyone is truly desperate for new channel news, sky F1 UHD launched this week. Smart swapped into 406 with the relevant subscription.

I think that’s all the BBC posts gone. Can we keep this thread for new channel launches please. Maybe from now on discussion on this thread is limited to posting channel name, frequency and where applicable Sky and Freesat EPG LCNs. Thanks.

Mackersdublin and Johnboy1951 take your argument elsewhere or take warnings both of you.

    13 March.

    19:13 CET WildEarth TV ( 11171 H ) back on Astra 2G @ 28.2° E.

    Still channel name 51118.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

This time in Full HD 1920 x 1080, it was previously only 1280 x 720

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭GIMP

Thats 60s,70s,80s frequencies, I haven't seen them listed here

  • Registered Users Posts: 691 ✭✭✭Stewball

    Just seen this https://twitter.com/RT_Europa/status/1644350857335517184

Can RT International be tuned on freeview boxes again? The article gives the satellite frequency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Badr 4 and Nilesat require specialist equipment to get them here, if that's the frequencies you mentioned..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,386 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

The transponder on Badr 4 should be possible. I used to get plenty of stations on that satellite, but with my dish not being perfect now, I get none. That information about RT on Badr 4 is on Lyngsat since February.

I can get RT International on 14 West 11638 V, 10 dB signal.

    https://www.lyngsat.com/tvchannels/ru/RT-News.html

  • Registered Users Posts: 691 ✭✭✭Stewball

So it can't be tuned with just an ordinary Skybox and dish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,031 ✭✭✭✭Johnboy1951

I watch this stream since our masters tried to prevent us viewing the channel.

    https://rumble.com/embed/vtp5hp/

As I only have a dish pointed at 28.2E I have no real hope of getting any other sat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,557 ✭✭✭swoofer

Why would anyone in their right mind want t to watch that channel and as it cannot be received on Astra 28 east it's way off topic. I had a quick look at 26 east and it was mind blowing. Tripe for T would be a better description.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭GIMP

When it was available in Europe I watched it quite often for an alternative view on geo politics until it was banned by the overlords!

Really? I was unaware that the Satellite forum was limited to "Astra 28 east".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,557 ✭✭✭swoofer

not the forum this thread, and has been 28 east from day one. There is a section for foreign channels and but none for tripe channels yet.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,850 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Can I ask that we take any political discussion elsewhere, this isn’t the place for it. there is no outright ban on discussing RT here and I am prepared to accept that the question was innocently asked. I think it is common case that RT won’t be going on any U.K. or Irish regulated EPG any time soon for reasons most people are well aware of.

We did at one point divide the forum into Satellite and Foreign Satellite. The former was supposed to be for Sky, Freesat, FTA channels on Astra at 28.2 deg E and Saorsat and the latter for everything else. I haven’t sought to strictly enforce that divide in years.

One further thing. One person “tripe” may be a favourite of another person. I’m not saying that by any defence of RT but if we had a standard of banning discussions of “tripe” channels I’d be banning discussions of half the channels on 28.2 E here. That said, there should be no further discussion of the channel in question on this thread, for now at least.

  • Registered Users Posts: 691 ✭✭✭Stewball

Apologies if I posted in the wrong thread.

I was just curious if I could re-tune RT to my Skybox - it seems that's not the case. At least I can still watch the uncensored Rumble stream & RT for Europe on Twitter.

Would be strange to have VM4 in HD, but VM3 still only in SD on Sky.

    From Digital Spy

    12.363V SR 27500 FEC 2/3 DVBS2 8PSK

    5044 - Virgin Media Four

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭galtee boy

Just had a look, picture quality is excellent, HD obviously, shame about the programming 😉 ! They'll surely switch VM3 to HD soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,611 ✭✭✭Rick_

Strange in the same way the North gets RTÉ 2 in HD and not RTÉ 1?
