Go drown your sorrows you sick puppy
Regardless, there would be a good chance that such an action would actually decrease US borrowing costs rather than the naive expectation of increasing them.
America has never imported a recession in her history. It exports them. If China dumped the bonds yep America would take a hit and then the rest of the world economy would take the hit, including China. Again the Chinese aren't idiots. Far from it. They don't do kneejerk. They're certainly not nearly as culturally insecure as Russia.
Interesting to see the figure for US monies to Ukraine growing to 200 billion. Another recent change in the script. I heard it from my usual realworld sources of the Russian take last week. Previously it had been 100 billion. Lord knows what it'll be next week and this week's will be forgotten.
As for NATO losing, well that's been in the script since Ukraine made Russia do a number of "feints". The irony is their own script shows them up to be the warmongers. IE if the "West"and NATO weren't making millions of shells, they clearly weren't preparing for war. They weren't the threat Russian spin claims. Who was making millions of shells? Hmmmm...
Even the trolls are getting desperate.
Yep, and I expect others would buy them (incl. domestically in the US). Probably can't be done all at once. I presume it would drive down prices which would cause China to lose money as they move further into selling off such assets.
I wonder who would want to have a Chinese/CCP govt. Bond (i.e. a promise in effect) over a US one (edit: do they sell such things??)...I suppose it could be a status symbol or hold a certain cachet for a tanky type!
...
Imagine a year ago putin was planning a victory parade and personal appearance in Kiev,
Now he's hiding in a bunker, still losing his war ,
And yet people on here support him
It should be fairly obvious to anyone that Biden doesn't make moves purely based on approval ratings.
There actually aren't enough fixed income products in the market right now so a mere 900bn worth would be eagerly snapped up by US domestic investors.
It does prove whoever that pro-Russia troll is hasn't a breeze what they're talking about and is merely repeating their preprepared talking points. 'Fiat currency' seems to be the latest meme.
Yes but they have made slow but significant gains recently. Hopefully they don't or maybe the Ukrainians are preparing a surprise for them.
This.
Let's be honest and admit how many of us knew anything about him 13 months ago. I could have gotten 'comedian' and 'President of Ukraine' and that would have been it. And now - the most admired man in the world. Destiny thrust on his shoulders by the now most reviled man in the world.
Of course there's "Zero objectivity on display here from the majority of posters". We are not mere observers of this war, we are involved in it. Russia is the enemy and we, as part of the EU, are engaged in an economic war with them. And yes, Putin and Russia are to blame, they started this war.
repost
In case there was any doubt about contact behind the scenes between US and Russia ahead of this visit
Though Western surface-to-air missile systems have bolstered Ukraine’s defensives, the visit marked the rare occasion when a U.S. president has traveled to a conflict zone where the U.S. or its allies did not have control over the airspace. The White House would not go into specifics but said that “basic communication with the Russians occurred to ensure deconfliction” shortly before Biden’s visit in an effort to avoid any miscalculation that could bring the two nuclear-armed nations into direct conflict.
With that in mind, the air raid sirens going off over Kiev were likely theatre as no missiles were launched
You joined (or re-joined) just to say that?
Does it hurt? Does it?
@21 chromosomes : you say: The GDP of Russia is smaller than the western countries as when calculating GDP debt is counted as an asset, who here would not like a "reduction " of Irelands GDP by defaulting on all the bank debt the country picked up?
What a garbled, mixed up statement. For a start debt is a liability, not an asset. And the stock of debt has no direct relation to GDP: interest payments may affect things if they are made to foreigners.
I hope for your sake your politics is not as cr*p as you economics.
In the event of tensions between US and China, there will be a flight of capital towards the US and demand for their debt as a safe-haven would dramatically increase.
Is that crappy building the best they have for acting as a backdrop? I'd bet they don't even have a golden toilet in it. It's no Mar-a-Largo. Sad.
Flipping hell. That's as real as it gets 😮
It's been posted twice before.
Thanks, I miss various chunks of the thread
Who is Zalinsky? Jeez the standard of conspiracy theorist is really gone downhill.
Was it not yourself a few pages back posting about how you didn't understand how holding debt was an asset.
Yet you are convinced that China holding a bit of US debt gives them enormous power to wreck the US.
Accusing others of your own wrong doing. That's on page one of the manual.
Former first deputy head of Russian Presidential Administration admits he did not plan for Minsk agreements to be fulfilled
Vladislav Surkov, former First Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration, has said that he worked on the Minsk agreements based on the idea that they should not be fulfilled.

Don't be ridiculous. Zelensky is not Soros' cousin
Zelensky IS Soros.
Feckin' shape-shifting lizard folk at it again
That phrase does seem to be a bit of a red flag, like rabbiting on about gold ("gold bugs" is the term I think) + Russias "resources" (I believe the US alone has almost as much of these "resources" as Russia of every type, I wonder the US+EU might have comparable (or more)? Presence of abundant hard "Resources" like iron and coal vs the resource poor south did not help NK get anywhere in the end).
At the same time alot of these kind of vaguely pro Russia/China conspiracy theory types who post and shriek at us all the end is nigh were big crypto bros as well (cannot get more virtual than that) but the shine seems to have gone off that.
50 trillion economies vs Russia 2 trilion,bring it on,comrade
Dont you ever get border by working for Prigozhin?Shouldnt you be in human wave attacks in Bahkmut and Vuhledar instead
Be a good slave for master Putin
It's a CLONE. The resemblance is striking.
Sadly, this story has been fact checked, and against all the odds, is untrue.
Nato humiliated as a paper tiger. Another classic, not as good as the guy who said we have to look back to the 11th century religious landscape to truly understand this conflict, but a solid cope.
As opposed to Russia, struggling from the start to make inroads against a second-rate military with an annual arms budget a tiny fraction the size of Russias.
All their antiquated gear, crap air force and stunning lack of combined arms capability exposed in front of the entire world. About half of their operational tank fleet lost.
The war couldn't possibly have gone any worse for Russia but it's NATO that's been humiliated.
Anyway, in a conventional confrontation with NATO, munitions wouldn't be as big as factor as NATO air-power capability would gut the Russian military on day one.
Russia couldn't even establish air-superiority over Georgia in 2008. As evident from the Ukraine war, nothing has changed. Even the most hardened Kremlin stooge would be hard pressed to come up with a rebuttal to NATO air-power .
