I've been harping on about the absolute uselessness of whiskey boxes/tubes for some time now.
Any policy that reduces the number of them is extremely welcome to me.
I'm also very much in favour of environmental policies being profitable for businesses. It incentivises them.

Maybe it's because I'm still a fuisce n00b, but I quite like the boxes with my Midleton and RB27. Teeling have done a couple of lovely boxes as well (I got the latest Wonders of Wood recently, for example) so maybe that's the style they'll move towards.
What's more sustainable than Wooden Boxes sourced from responsibly managed forestry?
It takes a lot of energy to convert a tree into a box and a lot of chemicals to make it shiny and varnished, then more energy to transport them around, before they all end up in landfill.
There's a cost saving for sure but they're not lying about the environmental angle.

I'm sorry, but, "some people move house sometimes", is not really a solid argument for putting millions of bottles of booze in boxes that are, for the most part, thrown away.

They are very like Rolex is how they go about it. Rolex make a million watches a year but you can't walk into a shop and buy one, go figure.
Except you're looking at the box production only rather than the lifecycle of the wooden box, needs to be sourced from a tree that's spent its time growing and offsetting CO2 and even when thrown away biodegrades rather than pollutes. I like the boxes and just would like to see some proof rather than a bold claim with no public substance but happy to be proved wrong if they'd show me the money numbers!
Assume this year will be similar to last with the 2 stage distribution, will the fact its still on the shelves in some places stop the initial sprint?

Believe me, anybody who wants an MVR 2023 won't have any bother picking one up at some stage this year.
Personally, I'm not going to bother trying for one til September or October, whenever the second release will be.

There will be plenty to go round, when people get their electricity and gas bills the first thing that gets dropped is another bottle of whiskey to sit in a wardrobe for a few years.
