80% of the public support on-shore wind farms apparently
Survey source: a windfarm business
Why are almost 1 in 4 against something that is saving the planet?
Closer to 1 in 5 or 1 in 10 based on the other polls
Either way doesn't really matter, as I said, the rollout will continue as the status quo and inaction is no longer an option
But we are been told the number of people in the countryside is reducing so should they not just reuse the existing houses available in the countryside instead of building mansions? should we also not put in place size restrictions? does every house have to be 3,000 sq ft + now in countryside because that seems to be the minimum
See below. The average wholesale electricity price in Ireland amounted to some 154.7 euros per megawatt-hour in October 2022. So I think you need to redo your math.

Mazda emissionless ICE tell me more ? Because all I’ve seen is some wheel to well puff piece.
I live beside a windfarm, there is another not to far away. I've yet to hear any neighbour complain. My parents are from the Midlands, my mother would have no issue at all, my father would be fine so long as he could either get discount electricity or rent his land but in reality he wouldn't actually care, he's just always going to ask for something like some people.
The truth is, like most complainers in Ireland, it's just a really loud minority.
Tbf you've come to the right place if you want to hear men complaining about anything new or different or progressive
..
I gave the last recorded price available. Also the link to the chart with all the pricing. I didn't say anything about a years average or do any "man maths". I provided a lot more information with sources than you provided FYI
The 6 million is the number given for that setup. Not 8million.
You have also taken the price for electricity which is currently higher than normal due to a war. Whats the actual average over the term of the turbine? 20 years.
What would it be if we took the last 20 years?
"Gaslighting" 😂
Anyway will leave you with that. Next time don't jump to assumptions of what people are posting because as you have clearly demonstrated you got everything wrong
Between "man maths" and "gaslighting" it's probably better not to ask
If wind had any sort of compelling argument it wouldn't require subsidies.
So clean too.
It's disingenuous to suggest that France is choosing not spend money on new reactors when the reality is they are making a complete pigs ear out of it - In May 2006 the EdF board approved construction of a new 1650 MWe unit at Flamanville, Normandy, alongside two existing 1300 MWe units. Completion is now expected late in 2012. - If the plant is completed this year it will have to be taken offline next year for repairs. It's costing four times the initial price, so much for a new reactor every two years.
I'll say it again. So far this year France exports when renewables are producing and imports when they aren't.
In the past they made a virtue out of a necessity, using fossil fuel and hydro for peaking, and for load balancing with the neighbours.
Nuclear is a one trick pony. All it can do is baseload. It can't ramp up or down like other generators. And whole fleets of nuclear power plants can drop off the grid. Politics is a major risk. Any support for nuclear could evaporate quicker than you could say "Windscale leukaemia cluster"
In contrast with wind power you start getting power relatively soon after construction starts. Weather fronts take time to move across the span of wind farms and interconnections so there's no sudden transitions and time to ramp or down the flexible generators.
Nothing has indicted that posters are rural or urban dwellers.
I support Nuclear and Gas - not useless White Elephants masquerading as Green or a serious alternative to conventional power sources
Going on the Pro windfarm posts here, most of them don't seem to understand how a modern grid works or appear to pay energy bills as evidenced by the WEI poll which claims over 50% of people support windfarms cos "they make energy cheaper", despite the facts showing the polar opposite over the past 10 years here and in the likes of Germany, Denmark etc.

Do you work for Eirgrid? A specialist on the grids?
if not then it’s very presumptuous to think you know more than anyone else here
Renewable are a serious alternative, maybe 30 years ago the statement above would be right but then again 30 years ago the World was still in the middle of the fallout of a nuclear disaster
Don't ever presume you know more on a topic than others.
Perhaps you'd do better to look at the subject if the poll. T was on acceptance of wind turbines in your area, not the merits or otherwise of wind as an energy source.
And just as an aside, would you support the building of a Gas or Nuclear power plant in your local area?
We have people complaining here that the resale value of their house has dropped slightly because of a wind farm
Imagine you slap up a big nuclear plant beside the house. What would the price drop be then?
Chernobyl left an area of 2,600km2 uninhabitable. A 30km zone more or less. So just taking a spot in middle of Ireland this is how much of Ireland would remain uninhabitable.
See map below for area that was in the yellow zone.
Also, I checked. Japan was 20km radius
Now what happens if a wind turbine malfunctions in comparison?
This was the yellow area from Chernobyl
I'd say when the chips are down a lot of lads on here would change their minds very quickly.
The chips will never be down for most of them, that's why they are so in favour. They are the true nimbys
Given the text of your poll question was perfectly worded for nimby's to vote no, and still it came out at *goes to check latest result* 76% answering yes to the question "Would you support a windfarm in your area?", says you are incorrect
Its in my backyard and doesn't seem to bother me or the neighbours, don't think its come up in conversation since they went up other than a few local parents use some of the fenced off land to teach their kids to drive.
Markus, you put the poll up, you got your answer and you didn't like it. You've learned that most people don't share your view on something. A life lesson! Don't be bitter and stop name calling.
Lol. Would you live beside an airport or beside the busiest motorway in the country? Many of us do and don't complain, a feckin windmill isn't going to bother us either, we're not so snowflakey in the city.
Were they there before you moved in?
If I could poll only those who live in areas that the windfarms would be constructed do you think it would be the same result? No it wouldn't, this is what I'm bitter about and have every right to be.
It is incredibly rare to have an airport or motorway built beside your house, not the same with windfarms. And more importantly, airports and motorways benefit many not just the profit margins of private companies.
If I could poll only those who live in areas that the windfarms would be constructed do you think it would be the same result? No it wouldn't
That's literally what you asked in your op ffs 🤦♂️
It's right there in the thread title 😂
Nimbys will never admit to being nimbys. I would throw a figure of at least 30%+ of the yes voters being closeted nimbys.
You missed about 6 pages of posts where we discussed the fact that most of those voting are likely urban dwellers who would never face the prospects of living beside a windfarm
I've had them go up in my rural area since we built here 40 years ago. They don't bother us or our neighbours. You just want a poll result that matches your feelings. Making up your own conditional result is childish in the extreme.
How far away exactly?
I'm not giving you specifics to start nit-picking over. Suffice to say they are in the area, in the same townland, well within view and even closer to neighbours who are not bothered about them. Maybe you should have stated a distance in your poll, with your own definition of 'your area'.
I didn't miss any pages
You started a thread along with a poll asking if people would support having a windfarm in their area.
The poll hasn't gone how you wanted and now you're getting all pissy about it and adding silly stipulations about people who live in urban areas 😂
Just take the 'L' and move on 👍🏻
