What's a good pay as you go phone plan/service?

For the latest few years I've been with Tesco pay as you go plan. For 15 a month I get enough data and calls.

However I find the quality of the service poor. I've tried multiple times and can't get voicemail to work, and that's something I need.

Also roaming in the uk never seemed to work, at least very well.

Anyone know a good payg plan, one that is reliable and ideally has free roaming in the uk.

GoMo is one option. Works absolutely fine at home or abroad. Uses a different network from Tesco/48/Three/Virgin. Currently €14.99/month.

Not really a bargain as many will have this for €9.99.

I have a couple of phones on GoMo and another couple on 48 - both are fine, though we've had problems with 48 abroad (they claim this is now fixed).

But I don't use voicemail, so can't vouch for that.

No 48 have still not fixed roaming yet as I was in Cardiff last weekend and my son's phone is on 48 and he couldn't get it to work at all

I was in France and Finland in the last 2 months and had issues with 48 data but got going by using their App.

4 gomo & one vodafone here. All the gomo had issues in Spain last year with data not working.

Vodafone no problem but my friend had vodafone & couldnt make any calls till she contacted them on chat. We had already swapped sims to double check it wasnt a phone issue

Postmobile is solid enough. Uses Vodafone, always get good speeds and roaming is never an issue. Ive tried 48 and gomo and both disappointed as speeds fluctuated greatly depending on time of day.

2 people with 48 here. Avoid if you ever intend on using it abroad.

Ive had 3 different phones and the other half has has 2 different phones while we have been with 48, Every time we cross the border or go to the UK both the phone and the data stop working. no amount of apps or messing with it will make them work. So changing now.

have 1xGomo and 2x48 in the house. 48 are a shambles for roaming. Fine in Ireland though. Gomo has had no issues roaming in Uk/Germany/Canaries/Crete.

will be changing away from 48 to Gomo, even if its a couple of euro a month more expensive

48 were fine for myself and my wife on roaming in Fuerteventura last October. Data and calls were both perfect. She tried to use hers in Lanzarote last week on roaming and it wouldn't work. Can't rely on a service like that.

Thread here with info on 48 roaming, they had asked customers to update to the new sim to solve the issue but from comments nothing has changed.

They asked us to do that too. and we both got new sims. Went to belfast the week after for a weekend. Nothing on the 48 phones from the minute we crossed the border until we crossed back down.

48 are doing some trickery when going abroad. It will work but you need change the SIM application settings and have lots of patience. It eventually gets service.

Avoid them unless you can deal with that hassle!

People having issues with 48 when roaming, are you going in to the settings, mobile network selection and changing it from automatic to manual and then selecting the International profile, my wife and daughter are both on 48 and we were in Spain, Holland and UK last year and once these steps were changed, roaming was fine, albeit it was only Edge in Holland as the 3G network is switched off over there. Apparently they now have 4G agreements in place across the EU.

Just click on local profile on return - with older sims,not the ones being advertised since end of January.But that's another story.Order and change to the new sim and you lose service completely.It's a technical issue says 48 chat.Another cock up by 48.

yeah , we had a Tesco €15 prepay plan for years - was handy since we could keep the toped up credit for a few months, not 28 days like the new €15 plan.

To force us giving up on that plan, they kept it on 3G only ( no upgrade to 4G ) and roaming internet was abysmal : barely crawling in a few EU mainland countries - 2G and 3G ( where 2G was phased out ) enough to send a WhatsApp message but not great for voice or video

Seems that everyone has the '28 days month' now ( requires top up every 4 weeks sharp ) and the likes of Vodafone are charging an arm and leg if you don't have a bundle activated : 20c+ for voice calls when interconnection charges are half a cent or less

we switched from Tesco to Gomo , but roaming partners have been more reliable with a Vodafone sim we had last year

Just about to sign up for 48 but the roaming thing putting me off now. Anyone with AnPost mobile?

its a bit dearer, €17 a month, unlimited calls texts data, first month free and it’s a 31 day month. Any thoughts? Have searched it a bit but most posts old and people seemed to be waiting a long time for SIM cards.

I've been over and back to Spain over the past number of years. I'm with 48 on a Samsung Galaxy which works perfectly.

Friends who have been with me with i-phones on 48 were left completely without service. They tried repeatedly to sort it out while on wifi without success.

48's roaming service is improving all the time.I got coverage in Sth East Asia recently.Previously,a few weeks before 48 said they were not even close to agreements for that region!!

Tesco;48;Virgin are on the 3 Network.Gomo is Eir.An Post Mobile;Clear Mobile are on Vodafone.

Sky Mobile will be here next year on Vodafone.Unlikely to compete with any other MVNO except for a very short period and will accelerate the imposition of annual increases if they are not 100% in place with all operators by then.
