Worrying times if there's truth to the Senekal story. He and Cullie Tucker are the two I really want to hold onto.
We've been through so many coaching transitions - personnel, roles, and game plans - in recent years. We've a pretty good young squad despite only having one out half and no clarity at full back, but we'll practically be rebuilding from scratch again next season. If we'd had a coherent plan all season and weren't wildly inconsistent I'd happily give Wilkins a shot but that hasn't been the case and we've already had to rebuild the attack and defense since last season.
Unless the voices from inside the squad and coaching team are pushing hard for Wilkins it's time for a fresh start. I worry that we'll get stuck in a book balancing exercise and end up defaulting to him regardless.
I was under the impression that Porch would always be NIQ due to his Australia 7's exploits
Interesting article - thanks for sharing it.
It is interesting that folks question Finlay when Porter was a total disaster last weekend
yeah that certain try saver was a real slap in the face
Laughable hyperbole. Bealham is getting lauded on here and by pundits. Absolute revelation last 18 months.
Porter had a messy outing but a disaster he was not.
what is this obsession with you and your incorrect thinking that they are somehow in competition with each other?
you may as well be comparing Bealhan with Keenan. different players, different roles, different responsibilities.
and "total disaster" is just simply horse sh!te.
Lads are having to work harder and harder to keep up the poor aul' downtrodden Connacht routine. Impressive hustle.
According to a post on Leinsterfans, Sean O'Brien is heading to us next season. Makes sense, he's a good prospect who's probably just unlucky to be squeezed between Doris and Culhane. Think he'd get a lot of minutes at 8 for us. I imagine Sean Masterson will depart.
Is this Big Sean or Wee Sean?
Wee Sean :)
In fairness in this case it's one poster who is just as likely to have a bizarre unfounded go at one of Connachts own players as one from the other provinces
I’m amazed they haven’t been banging their drum about Blades selection. Since they seem to think he shouldn’t be playing for Connacht.
'Lads'? Surely you mean lad?
who would Connacht fans like to see brought in
Director of Rugby - Wayne Pivac
Head coach with responsibility for attack - Pete Wilkins
Forwards coach - Jerry Flannery
Scrum and contact skills coach - Colm Tucker
Skills coach - any Kiwi
Not sure about defence, maybe Flannery can double job.
Watching the 20s and Connacht have two great players in Devine and hugh gavin on the team
Gavin is a top tier athlete, he's underage as well. Usually a 12 but has the pace for the wing as well.
Devine's younger brother is a serious talent as well. He's with Connacht under 20's too.
Whose younger brother?
I edited my post because I realised that. 😊 John Devine is Matthew's younger brother.
You had me excited there, thought there was a third to come!
Looking at the 20s performance could there be a promotion in Connacht for Mark Sexton (currently with the academy) ?
I think you have to hold them back for a year or two. You don't want to put a guy in too early as he might get hurt and that's not good at such a young age.
Gotta say that our under age setup has improved massively. There's great relationships with all the clubs now and that helps a lot. The coaching and development players are getting has improved beyond all recognition. I think we've learned so much from the Leinster way and taken it on board. The amount of players that will come through over the next ten years will surprise a lot of people.
Even down at the beginning of competitive rugby, under 13's, the standard has improved dramatically. You'd be blown away by what you'd witness at that level if you hadn't watched a rugby match in 10 years.
Mark Sexton is a coach
Yeah, I did a course under him. Nice guy, just wants to talk about the game. Some of the other guys wanted to chit chat with him and he had no interest. He wanted to hear ideas about improving things whether they were stupid, already in use or new or novel, he'd stand and talk to you about them.
Take a bow Finlay Bealham. What amazing vision from a front row. Furlong be worried ,😊. That said what a joy it is to watch Irish rugby these days. I was always a critic of Joe Schmidt and it's so fantastic to see that quality rugby beats engineered rugby every time.
Warren Gatland might be in need of a new job come the autumn at this rate.
I'm sure we could use another body selling programs or something...
Elisaatwar, Jesus do you ever have anything positive to comment without being negative. Yes delighted Finlay has proven non Connacht fans wrong. But we all know there is a non conscience bias in favour of Leinster and munster which in fairness i can historically understand. But now connacht players gets into the irish squad on form. I have to admit personally I couldn't see why casey was ahead of Blade but today casey did well and you can't argue with that.
As bgud says I'm not afraid to say what's wrong with Connacht never mind the other provinces. Blade doesn't work for Ireland. He's explosive but that is not JGP. It's about structure and Blade doesn't do structure. Marmion would have been the obvious call up to Ireland.
